2. Our mission
The Age-Friendly Academy (AFA) will consolidate and showcase the
breadth of innovative work which is ongoing at the University of
Strathclyde related to positive ageing and demographic change.
5 key pillars:
• Offering renowned learning opportunities
• Undertaking innovative research
• Intergenerational work
• Promoting career development and
enterprise for older adults
• Forming partnerships to enhance
community engagement
3. The Age-Friendly Academy Family
The University of Strathclyde is a place of useful learning open to
all and is providing a true life course approach to learning

Alfred and Anna
Alfred:
• Regularly attends CLL daytime
classes (Learning)
• An active member of the 3Ls
Students’ Association (Community
Engagement)
Anna:
• Interested in taking part as a
volunteer in European
Intergenerational Project
(Research/Intergenerational)
5. Grandparents
Alan and Angela
Alan:
• Recently diagnosed with Type 2
diabetes and is interested in taking
part in our research in to
maintaining a healthy lifestyle
(Research)
Angela:
• Always had a passion for writing
and has just signed up for a Creative
Writing class with the CLL Summer
Programme (Learning)
• CLL student ambassador (Community
Engagement)
6. Parents
Andrew and Amanda
Andrew:
• Starting to think about retirement
and passing his skills on to younger
people through the Intergenerational
Mentoring Network (Intergenerational)
Amanda:
• Thinking about taking early
retirement and developing her
passion for photography in to a
business and is looking for advice
(Employability and Enterprise)
7. Four children
Anthony, Amy, Alexander and Abby
Anthony:
• Moving to Italy to live with his girlfriend and interested
in learning the language (Learning)
Amy:
• Recently got promoted to Human Resources Manger
and is concerned with her lack of skills in managing an
ageing workforce (Employability and Enterprise)
Alexander:
• Considering his further education options and looking
in to an Undergraduate degree at Strathclyde - seeking
a mentor for advice (Learning/Intergenerational)
Abby:
• A member of the Children’s University
(Learning/Intergenerational)
8. The Age-Friendly Academy –
what next?
• Continue to showcase new ageing related
research projects and learning
opportunities
• Continue to work with the network of Age-
Friendly Universities on global initiatives
• Develop new local and national
collaborative partnerships and projects
