What do we need to have in place for
Alumni Engagement?
#arcindia
Fully Functional Alumni Office
Alumni Data : We need to have latest data and
professional information about our Alumni Network to
engage them in an organized fashion.
Regular Communication: We need to have official Alumni
communication channels in place to know Alumni Preferences
and build a strong connection with them.
HR: We need to have a team in place to strategize, plan and
organize various Alumni Engagement Programs and activities
on a periodic basis.

Alumni Engagement
“ It is important to engage with Alumni in a constructive and meaningful
manner which in turn creates some value for Alumni, the current students
or the faculty.”
What programs does
the school run for
their student
Development?
How can the school use
its existing Resources for
its growth and
development?
Can we use
Alumni to Bridge
this Gap ?

Alumni Talks
Saanya Ojha, an alumnus of the batch
of 2012 was back in school on 21st
August to deliver a talk on Thinking
about Life after School as a part of the
Alumni Talks Program. Saanya
delivered her session for the students of
class 10, 11 and 12 highlighting the
challenges and common
misconceptions about studying abroad
and how to overcome them by following
the correct procedures and process of
application. She also shared her
experience about studying at the
Wharton Business School and how it
has helped her evolve and grow as a
person. The students got answers to a
lot of their questions and doubts and

Editor's Notes

  1. When we talk about Alumni Engagement, let us first have a look at what do we need to have in place to ensure successful, meaningful and lifelong engagement with our alumni
  2. Data- our starting point for any engagement activity. Only if we have information about our alumni, where they are and what are they doing- we can design programs and forums to engage them accordingly. Communication: regularly communicating with alumni means that they are aware of the initiatives of the office and the various ways in which they can participate in the office activities. This also means that they will be more positive and responsive towards coming forward to participate in these engagemnet programs. HR – our hands and feet at work – we need to have a team in place who is doing the thinking about how to engage alumni and to have an organized and professional approach towards these programs. -- all this is only going to be possible if we have a fully functional alumni office in place at the school
  3. First line The school is always working towards its growth and student development. How can the school utilize its vast alumni network to bridge this gap
  4. For meaningful engagement it is very important to have a strong alumni culture in school – this is something that shall benefit both the school and the alumni network, If the school considers alumni their roll of honor, the alumni will always have in them a sense of capability to give back to their school If the school has various mentoring and counseling engagement programs already in place , alumni can participate in them with a sense of purpose Alumni always feel connected to their old faculty and this is an important factor that brings them back to school. It is this sense of connectedness that the school needs to capitalize on Ideally a strong culture would mean the alumni being such a strong resource for the school that they do not have to look beyond their alumni network for any assistance
  5. This pyramid depicts the various categories in which alumni are placed. Describe pyramid – It is important to understand here that we need to alumni with a positive attitude towards their school into alumni volunteers and alumni volunteers into alumni leaders.
  6. There are 3 types of alumni engagement that can happen: Alumni to alumni – for their intra networking: professional networking events or social events like reunions and get togethers Alumni to Students – workshops, talks, one to one interactions , ad hoc meetings. This is where we also have our alumni engagment programs like mentorship, apprenticeship etc Alumni to Faculty – knowledge delivery sessions and skill training. If a faculty wants an alumnus from a particular professional background in class one day to make their lecture more interactive and engaging for the students or they want alumni down for feedback and inputs on the curriculum
  7. Talking to someone who has done what they want to do or having access to a regular communication channel with the alumni.
  8. What are the 3 things you will do when you get back to office? Discuss what and why with the person sitting next to you. In the end everyone reads out their take-aways
