1. The document describes a simulation of a queueing system with two telephone booths located on a street corner in London.
2. Customers arrive randomly between 10-35 minutes and if both booths are busy, customers must wait for the next available booth. Service times for each booth are shown in tables and the first customer arrives at 10am.
3. Random numbers are generated for interarrival and service times. The conclusion is that the system could improve the customer experience and increase earnings, but an issue may arise if one of the booths fails.
3. System
A queueing system occurs any time 'customers' demand 'service' from
some facility; usually both the arrival of the customers and the service
times are assumed to be random. If all of the 'servers' are busy when new
customers arrive, these will generally wait in line for the next available
server.
A double channel queue is a system which can provide service to
highest two customers at a time.
Telephone booths are usually located in train and
underground stations, bus stops and sightseeing
spots. We need a double channel queueing system
to run two telephone booths in the street corner!
