5 Building Blocks for Creating a Great Pitch

Step 1: Start Out Strong: Effectively Introduce Your Topic and Yourself
 Why should your target audience listen (factoid connecting audience to problem)?
 Who are you (name, credentials)? Co name. We are a website, service, product?
 Why are you here? “Could you imagine…” or Ka Pow short story/scenario.
Step 2: Explain in More Detail the Intriguing Issue or Problem to be Solved
 What is the specific intriguing issue (problem) your research is focused on solving?
 How painful is the problem (how big is this issue)?
 Favor real and visual stories, and evoke an emotion.

Step 3: Identify the Premise of Your Potential Solution and Your Current Status
 What assumptions (hypothesis) have you established regarding your proposed
solution to the issue or problem? How are these assumptions to be validated?
 What is your current status (milestones achieved, milestones to be achieved)?
Step 4: Identify the Potential Beneficiaries of the Your Expected Results
 Who, specifically, will ultimately benefit from the results you expect to achieve?
 Can your research and intended results be used in multiple contexts? Identify them
Step 5: Identify and explain how your research and intended results will create value
 How will the benefits of your research turn into value for your beneficiaries?
 How might you calculate quantitative metrics to show this value?

Step 2: Explain in More Detail the Intriguing Issue or Problem to be Solved  What is the specific intriguing issue (problem) your research is focused on solving?  How painful is the problem (how big is this issue)?  Favor real and visual stories, and evoke an emotion.
  • 2. 2 Step 3: Identify the Premise of Your Potential Solution and Your Current Status  What assumptions (hypothesis) have you established regarding your proposed solution to the issue or problem? How are these assumptions to be validated?  What is your current status (milestones achieved, milestones to be achieved)? Step 4: Identify the Potential Beneficiaries of the Your Expected Results  Who, specifically, will ultimately benefit from the results you expect to achieve?  Can your research and intended results be used in multiple contexts? Identify them Step 5: Identify and explain how your research and intended results will create value  How will the benefits of your research turn into value for your beneficiaries?  How might you calculate quantitative metrics to show this value?
