The document discusses sources of inspiration for a post-apocalyptic film/trailer project. It lists several post-apocalyptic movies like Mad Max Fury Road and The Road that inspired the filmmaker's style and elements. It provides information on the film production companies involved in some of the inspirational movies, including Dimension Films and 2929 Productions. It also lists the video game studio Naughty Dog as inspiration and their history.
3. Inspiration
• I took much of my inspiration from a variety of source, mainly consisting of
movies/films, I looked to re create certain elements of the post
apocalyptic genre within my movie/film. All of these movies/films used
the same style of arid, desolate landscape which inspired me to do the
same. Furthermore, the different shot types e.g. long pan style shots to
set the scene inspired me to try and do something similar within my
trailer. Finally, the various Mise En Scene features e.g. costume and props
were stylised to the post apocalyptic world and thus allowed me to get
creative. Overall movies such as Mad Max Fury Road, The Book Of Eli and
The Road all gave me hundreds of ideas that allowed me to adapt my work
and make it follow genre conventions more accurately.
4. Film Companies
• (The Road) Dimension Films is an American film production and distribution studio formerly owned
by The Walt Disney Studios and now owned by The Weinstein Company. It was formerly used as
Bob Weinstein's label within Miramax Films, to produce and release genre films. The Weinstein
Brothers took this label with them when they departed the Disney-owned Miramax in October
2005 and paired it under their company, The Weinstein Company. It is one of the American "mini-
majors", i.e. small to medium independent television and motion picture production studios. In
2003, entrepreneurs Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban founded 2929 Productions to develop, finance
and produce independent feature films outside of the Hollywood studio system. In its first few
years, 2929 Productions produced such films as “Godsend,” “Criminal” and “The Jacket.” The goal
of 2929 Productions is to develop and selectively finance and produce interesting and thought-
provoking feature films for both specialized and mainstream audiences.
• (Book Of Eli) Alcon Entertainment strives to consistently and profitably entertain a worldwide
audience while exploring new ways to innovatively finance, produce, market, and distribute
entertainment that challenges, inspires, & delights both its creators and its audience. Silver Pictures
is the film production company of Joel Silver founded in 1985. However, it did not have a logo until
1990 (introduced as a static logo for "Silver Pictures Television" on the 1990 TV movie Parker Kane),
and their logo did not appear on a theatrical film until 1991 (introduced on the film Ricochet).
5. Games Companies
• (The Last Of Us) Naughty Dog Inc. (formerly Jam Software before renaming
in 1989) is an American video game developer based in Santa Monica,
California. Founded by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin in 1984 as an
independent developer, the studio was acquired by Sony Computer
Entertainment in 2001. Gavin and Rubin produced a sequence of
progressively more successful games, including Rings of Power and Way of
the Warrior in the early 1990s. The latter – a very low-budget but still
plausible offering – prompted Universal Interactive Studios to sign the duo
to a three-title contract and fund the expansion of the company.
