1. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
2. Brand Identity and its Importance
Brand identity is important in film marketing as it makes a film
stand out and have its own identity which people would
associate it with. There are many ways to create identity for a
feature film, this could be either the style of the film, the music
and soundtrack, the title and text font, the characters design, etc.
Brand identity gives a film its unique appearance which people
will remember it by. Examples of brand identity in film are the
classic Star Wars title and theme music, the logo for Batman, the
music and sound for the Friday the 13th films, etc.
3. Our Films Brand Identity
There are many aspects and elements within our teaser trailer which give our film a brand identity. The
main obvious one is the title and text font. We had to download a font from a website which is called Atlas.
The style of the font is that of the early 1900s broadway. It is similar to the title font for the film The Great
Gatsby. We chose this font as we could see how it linked with the time setting of our film and specifically in
the United States. We chose to use this font across all 3 of our products to really highlight on it and make
it a main part of our films brand identity. Another element that we kept throughout all 3 products is the
character design and look. Although gangsters are stereotypically known for flash suits and guns, we used
shots and images of the two gangsters in their smart clothes with a gun and looking scary and
intimidating. This helped promote the genre of the film but also made it visually remember-able. For the
film poster and film magazine cover, the same shot of the gangsters was used which I feel adds to the
brand identity element. One final thing that gave our film a brand identity is the soundtrack that
accompanies the trailer. The cover song House of the Rising Sun is fitting for the trailer as they are both set
in New Orleans and is quite recognisable. The style of the song is quite old too which fits in with the time
setting.
4. Overall, across all three media products we created, you can see
a similar resemblance in terms of genre and character. The
characters are portrayed the same way in each product and you
can tell that they are big time gangsters in the early 20th
century. The exact setting is a bit difficult to tell with the poster
and magazine cover as there is no background image that gives
away the location. The magazine cover mentions New Orleans so
that helps inform the audience where the film is set. Each
product should appeal to the same audience as they are all
similar in terms of style and genre.
