2. Background
Founded in 1983, their first film was a comedy called My
Beautiful Laundrette, did not come out till 15th November
1985
Working Title Films are still producing films today with a
lot of films to be coming out over the next couple of years
including The Snowman and Baby Driver.
Meaning they have been producing films for coming up to
thirty three years and have produced over 80 films since
forming.
3. Multiple Films
Working Title makes good use of their working relationships with
many actors, directors and even writers.
An example of one relationship that Working Title Films have is with
director and writer Edgar Wright. Who shares a relationship with
actors and writers Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost collectively bring comedic
value to their films as all three are very witty characters. It is also a
bonus as Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are both actors and writers
meaning they are able to write jokes and skits specifically for their
own characters.
I think that Working Title Films choose to employ Edgar Wright as
overtime he developed a good working relationships with Working
Title Films, resulting in an easier working enviroment and ultimately
making more money.
4. Film Genres
Working Title Film have a large range of films that they produce,
although they
do probably specialize in comedies with their first ever film produced
being a
comedy.
Their genres and films include
Comedy- My Beautiful Laundrette(1985) Bean(1997),Johnny
English(2003),Paul(2011)
Romantic Comedy-Notting Hill(1999),High Fidelity(2000),Love
Actually(2003)
War- Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011)
Horror-Long Time Dead(2003)
Drama-About a Boy(2003)
5. British?
With the use of British writers like the previously mentioned Edgar
Wright, it is easy to see why Working Title Film as a company come
across as rather British. When you have a British writer their style of
humour will also be very British. So will please local viewers,
However may not interest foreign watchers.
Working Title Films also comes across as British with some of its
movie titles. ‘Johnny English’ being the main example.
From the list of films i have seen produced by Working Title Films
they do not seem to be as over the top as some American produced
Films that are maybe even over produced at times. In Contrast
Working Title Films work on a smaller budget to American Hollywood
films.
6. Themes/Ideas? And reoccurring plotlines?
As Working Title Films specialise in making comedies a lot of their
themes and ideas will overlap, especially when the same people are
writing the script.
If we were to take Edgar Wrights films as an example his plotlines
and some of his characters follow the same sequence as a lot of
other films
Happy friends - Problem - Problem solved
Nick Frost and Simon Pegg camper vaning together, discover Paul,
return Paul.
This sequence could also be translated into other films as it is quite a
loose plot.
