2. Production Outline
For this project I am going to be creating a fanzine on the singer Ariana Grande. I want to show that music artists are
more than just their voice. Ariana specifically has been through a lot in her life both good and bad, and her fame was
something that she worked for, and grew from a young age. To do this I will be including everything to do with Ariana
from her childhood to now. The basics of the subjects I will cover are: Her childhood and leading up to her world-wide
fame, her discography, her world tours, her achievements, major life events, her fragrances, and possibly future
projects. To add to this, I will be including information about some of the hate a backlash she has received from certain
events and other controversies she has faced. I will also be conducting some interviews on fans of Ariana to include
throughout the fanzine covering the different subjects. These will range from personal experiences to opinions on her
work and more. I will also be including some fun facts on some of the subjects and images on each page to increase
the reader interest.
I will need to be using a camera or a phone to take the photos I am doing myself. I will need a tripod and some form of
lighting to aid my photography. I will also need a computer and editing software to manipulate photos I have gathered
from online, possibly edit my own photos to improve their quality, and to create my fanzine. I will also need to script out
some questions for my interviews with fans and possibly use an audio recording device during the interviews if they
are over a call which I can then write up on a computer.
I need to include as many Ariana related visuals as possible in my fanzine design to make sure it fully appeals to my
target audience; I will look back at my audience research to help aid my design decisions.
3. Equipment List/Production Resources
For my fanzine I will be included images, some of these will be photos I have taken myself. To take these photos I will be using
my iPhone, a tripod, and a ring light. This is to ensure that my photos are good quality with professional lighting. To edit my
photos, I will be using the software Adobe Photoshop. I am using this software because it is easy to use and perfect for editing
images in a professional way. For creating the fanzine, itself I will use either the Adobe Photoshop software or the Adobe
InDesign software as they are both great for creating layouts and text. I will be taking photos of the fragrances and fragrance
promo items myself so I will need to have each those in hand for the shoot. I will be gathering all the existing images, both my
own and others, that I will be using into a folder, ready to be edited, before I start the main production.
4. Style Sheet
Based on my target audience
research survey I discovered that
the colours people assosciate with
Ariana are pinks and purples. This
confirmed my decision to use these
as the main colours for my fanzine.
The pinks are based on Ariana's
branding with her album and
fragance "Thank U, Next", and the
purples are based on the branging
around her fragrance R.E.M, and the
"God is a Woman" music video.
I will also be including some
designs featured in Ariana's
work on the background of the
pages. In my target audience
research survey, I found that this
would make the pages more
interesting visually and further
connect the visual aspect of the
fanzine to Ariana.
The font above (letters only) is the 'positions'
font. I will be using this for my fanzine title as it
creates a direct link to Ariana.
For the main bodies of text, I will use a more
basic font that is easy to read.
For example: Book Antiqua, Selawik, Seaford
Display.
5. Mood board – Related images, images similar to the ones I will use
I created this
mood board to
show the type of
images I will be
using in my
fanzine. Some of
these will be
photos I have
taken myself and
others will be
professional
photos that I have
edited and
changed to make
them my own and
suit my project.
6. Content Outline
Page One: Before her music career
• Ariana's Childhood – fun facts about when she was a kid, about the shows she did as a kid and the rolls she played, singing she did at a young
age.
• Her work with nickelodeon - the section above could merge into this section; this will also create a link to the next page involving her music as
working on these shows is what really kicked it off.
Page Two: Her music evolution
• Put your hearts up – this was her debut single so it’s an important thing to cover, talk about who it was aimed at, Ariana's opinion on it.
• Yours Truly - this was her debut album, talking about some songs in more detail and the stories behind them, how well the album did etc.
• Do this for the rest of her albums, compare the more recent ones to her older ones.
Page 3: A continuation of her music evolution.
Page 4: Achievements
• Discuss her main achievements with details from the event each one was won at with her awards, this page should be really shining a light on
her success.
Page 5: Touring
• Start with her first set of concerts then move onto her first tour, get as much information in there as possible as it was so long ago its less known
about, move onto her next tour and again talk about that in more detail to transition to the next page.
Page 6: Manchester Attack
• Transition into this from talking about the "Dangerous Woman Tour" on the previous page, as this is when the event occurred, talk about it in a
respectful way changing the tone to a more serious one from the rest of the fanzine, talk about "One Love Manchester" in this section too,
reference the hate she revived from this
7. Content Outline
Page 7: Touring
• Talk about her other lives performances and tour after the Manchester attack
Page 8: Controversies
• Talk about the donut incident, Mac Miller and the hate she got from his death.
Page 9: Getting Married
• Talk about her relationship with Dalton leading up to and including the wedding, talk about details from the wedding itself that people may not
know
Page 10: Fragrance line
• Talk about her fragrances but cover things that not a lot of people will cover such as the way people collect the promotional items and why, also
cover the promotional events that have been held for the fragrances.
I have put the topics in this order as I believe it will flow quite well this way making it easier to read. I believe that the fanzine will work better with most
topics merging into each other, so I placed the more random topics that don't really link to any of the other topics at the end of the fanzine.

To create these layouts, I looked back at my research on fanzine conventions. From that research I knew exactly
what needed to be included on my front cover.

18. Interview Plan
I have created a docutment to send out to fans. It contains all the questions I
need answering for my fanzine and clear instructions on what they need to do
when filling it out. I will send and receive this by email.
19. Contingency Plan
Potential Problem Effect on Production Solution
Camera/Phone storage
becomes full.
Unable to take photos and
record interviews.
Make sure storage is empty
enough beforehand.
Camera/Phone runs out of
battery.
Unable to take photos and
record interviews.
Make sure battery is at 100%
beforehand and have a spare
battery or bring a portable
charger.
Information doesn't fully fill the
space allocated on the page.
Slows down production –
something extra to do as the
page won’t look right.
Re-organise the page so it all
fits in a way that is still visually
pleasing or add more images to
that section to fill the space.
Software crashes while making
the fanzine itself
Slows down production – would
have to restart the whole page
again.
Make sure to save frequently.
An interview recording gets lost. Not able to add all the interview
sections I would like.
Interview more than one person
with the same or similar
questions.
Software crashes while editing
photos
Slows down production - will
have to re-edit the photo.
Make sure to save frequently.
20. Production Schedule
First Week Second Week Third Week
I will spend this week making
the front and back cover for the
fanzine.
I will start by creating the
background designs I will be
using throughout my fanzine,
then I will begin the work on the
front and back covers.
I will also spend this week
taking, gathering, and editing
the photos I will need for each
part of my project.
I will spend this week making
the subject pages of my
fanzine.
I will start each page by setting
up the background and then
add the title. Next, I will add the
images as this will show where
the text needs to go.
I will also keep track of any
images I need to change as I
go.
I will spend this week finishing
my final pages. Once I have
finished, I will be looking
through the whole fanzine to
check it is exactly how I want it
and edit anything that needs
changing – I will give myself at
least one day for this final part.
Editor's Notes
You could create a mood board of images related to your product. They could be inspirational or visually interesting. Analyse what you have gathered.
Decide on content and think about how you will structure your piece – consider the conventions of your chosen style/genre, think about the best methods to appeal to your audience.
Finally work out a production schedule for the project. Once you have a final proposal, begin to plan how you intend to realise your project and what you will need to create/collect.
