Equilibrium
A normal start of the year at hogwarts
Disruption
Harry's name gets pulled out of the goblet
of fire making him the 4th contestent of the
triwizard tournament even though he is
underage and didn't put his name into the
goblet.
Recognition
Harry and Cedric get teleported to a grave yard where wormtail
kills Cedric and uses a drop of Harrys blood (along with other
items) to bring back voldermort to his full form. Voldermort
tries to kill Harry, he survives and takes Cedric's back to the start
of the maze. Moody reveals to harry that he put Harrys name in
the goblet of fire and he is a death eater for voldermort. This is
when Harry and the others realise why his name came out of
the goblet of fire. He also tells Harry that he is going to kill him.
Attempt to repair the damage
Dumbledore and Snape run in to stop Moody
from killing Harry and they force Moody to show
that he is actually Barty Crouch. Snape also gives
Barty truth serum and they discover new
imformation about things that have happened.
New Equilibrium
They now live in a world where voldemort is back.

Who Harry Potter, Voldermort, Mad-eye Moody, Wormtail
What Harry's name comes out of the goblet of fire meaning he has to take part in the triwizard tornament. After completing the last stage along
with Cedric they get teleported to a graveyard where Cedric dies and voldemort returns.
Why Mad-eye Moody put harry's name into the goblet of fire and the triwizard cup was changed into a portkey to transport Harry to the
graveyard. Harry is needed by wormtail to bring voldemort back and voldermort wants to kill Harry, Harry being at the gravyard away from
hogwarts creates the perfect oportunity for this to happen.
When At the end of the last stage of the triwizard tornament.
Where The Little Hangleton graveyard.
How Wormtail traps Harry against a statue and cuts his arm to use a drop of his blood along with other items to bring voldermort back to his
full form. Voldermort duels with Harry with the intention of killing him but fails and he escapes.
Initial Ideas
Idea 1
Who Three college kids
What A college trip to a pyramid in Egypt. Three of the students get split up from the group and trapped inside a part of the
pyramid and they have to get themselves out by doing certain things. They have to go through multiple different rooms
before being able to escape, each room has harder tasks then the rest and one wrong move could be fatal. When they
escape, the pyramid starts to collapse so they have to rush to escape in time.
Why The pyramid is cursed and designed to trap people in order to kill them.
When During a college trip to the pyramids.

Where The great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt.
How The kids see an opening in a wall and they decide to go away from the group and take a look in the room.
When they walk in after a couple of the seconds the door closes up behind them and they can't get
out. While panicking one of the students puts his hand on a brick and it pushes inwards revealing an item
leading them to realise they need to do and find certain things to escape.
Idea 2
Who Odd-socks the cockapoo and His owner Dennis
What An animated dog that likes to steal people's socks from their homes and washing lines. He only takes one
sock from each person hence the name odd-socks. Each home brings a new adventure.
Why His owner is elderly and lonely, so he adopted odd-socks. He likes to earn his place in the family home and
make his owner happy. His owner loves knitting so he brings treasures (odd-socks) home. He also likes to
keep some for himself for comfort.
When Odd-socks takes himself for walks because his owner is unable to walk him. This is when he likes to steal.
Where Local neighbourhood

Who An alien biologist/scientist and his team
What The biologist and his crew have been requested by NASA to travel through space to kill an alien lifeform in
order to study it. As they get closer, they encounter several obstacles trying to stop them reaching their
destination.
Why Nasa discovered alien lifeforms on a planet, and they need to have one studied in detail. The aliens sense
them heading towards their planet and retaliate.

Indiana Jones
The poster/cover uses a huge lettering in full capitals for "Indiana Jones", this is done for dramatic effect,
to make it clear which franchise this is a part of and to immediately appeal to fans of the franchise. It also
has full capital lettering for "pyramid" and "sorcerer" which has been done again for dramatic effect and
also to make these parts clear as they are key parts to the title. The imagery has been done in an
unrealistic way, in this case it's art not real photos, to show fiction instead of fact. This is common in
adventure posters/covers. The main character has been placed in front of the rest of the imagery to
emphasise/show their importance. A lot of the colours are dark which has been done for dramatic effect
and to make the title stand out more. These are some conventions I could potentially use in my
advertising.
I chose to look at this image for some visual ideas.
On the walls in the background there are hyroglifics
and other egyptian art. This is to set the scene and
reinforce the idea of the location of this movie
and/or scene. All of the colours used in this are
some browns, white, and mainly sand colours.
There is also some loose stones off to the side in
the background suggesting that the place is quite
old. The man in the image is using light to make
something happen in the statue map below, this
type of puzzle could be something I include in one
of the rooms and game levels

This movie poster again uses large all capital lettering for the
movie title to make it stand out and give off a more dramatic
effect. The main characters in the film are also the main
features on this poster. They are well known actors, the most
known has been placed at the front. They have done this to
draw attention to the poster just by people recognising
their faces. The rest of the poster is really simple with just
another character (the horse) and the sky for the background.
This is so people focus mainly on the title of the movie,
creating more chance for it to be remembered. Creating a
simple but effective poster/advertisement like this one is
something I can consider doing when creating my own.

Lara Croft and the temple or osiris – game visual ideas + audio
Decoration/scenery - There are a lot of broken wall sections
throughout this room which shows that the place is quite old,
possibly neglected, it adds to the scenery well as it provides extra
little bits of detail to help fully set the location and vibe. Adding
extra bits of scenery like this is something I will try to include in
my game level.
Puzzle/challenge - It's clear that they need to use light to achieve
the objective for this section of the game. The light needs to be
used in a certain place, certain angle, bouncing off the stones in a
certain order to get it to go through a certain spot on the wall.
This is a puzzle I could consider having in one of the tomb
rooms/levels along with another more dangerous task.
General game audio – The background music throughout most of the game seems to be fast pace and it makes the
game feel more dramatic as you battle, complete challenges etc. The music chanages when the player completes a
section and they can move on further, it becomes slower and calmer. The game also has sound effects for certain
actions for example, footstep sounds for running/walking, shooting sounds for guns, sounds of things being destroyed.
The types of sounds and background audio are things I will consider using in my game.

The crystal maze – game visuals + challenge ideas
This crystal maze room has lots of
small detsails to it which I could
consider in my tombs such as, weeds
which shows neglect, multiple
platform levels, a few bricks scatter
on the floor which shows age and
neglect, pillars with carvings which I
could have hieroglyphics on instead.
This puzzle seems to be one where
the player has to walk along a thin
platform to get to the other side. I
could do a similar challenge in one
of the pyramid tombs where the
students have to walk on a thin,
unstable platform over a bit of
something dangerous, for example,
venomous snakes, lava.
This puzzle is one where the player
has to avoid wooden beams to get
to the other side. I could do a
smilar challenge in one of the
pyramid tombs where the students
have to get through a room
covered in laser beams and if they
touch them, the room could close
in on them or the lasers could burn
them.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
I have chosen to look at this game because it is and adventure game in
the same retro pixel style that my video game will be in.
Script – In the game the text shows up above the characters head as they
talk. Each character has a different voice and colour of text to make it
easier to see who is talking. The text is also bold and clear to make sure it
is legible. Using text like this is something I will consider to do in my
game, specifically during the cut scene.
Music – The audio throughout the whole game seems very simple. I think
this is to make sure the music isn't distracting from the gameplay. The
music also seems to change with the scenes, each place has its own
section of music, and the speed changes depending on what is
happening in the storyline. For example, the music speeds up when there
is conflict and it is mostly slower when the characters are just walking
around or in normal conversation. The change in speed is something I
will consider doing for my game, I may speed up the soundtrack during
the different levels.
Decoration/scenery - There are lots of smaller details for each scene in the game to give it more depth and more of an atmosphere. For the scene above
they have created rocks through the use of shading with darker and lighter colours, and machinery to really develop the scene and make it more like a
realistic place. Adding extra decoration like this is something I will heavily consider doing myself as I believe it is a key part to making a game look good.
Research Summary
• What have you learned from your research?
I have learned that the movie title needs to be big in order for it to really stand out
on any form of poster/advertisement. Having the main characters on the
advertisements is a common feature. The music in adventure games is usually quite
fast pace to make it feel more dramatic, the pace of the music often changes when
something is completed/a new door opens. Having extra decration/details in the
background of the game levels helps set the location/scene more.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
I will include the common advertisement features such as: big title, main characters
in the middle. I will also include extra details in the background of the game level I
design. I aim to create a puzzle/challenge similar to those in my crystal maze
research page but make them more dangerous.

I chose these colour
schemes because these are
colours most commonly
associated and found with
egyptian pyramids. The top
analogous colour scheme

the bottom being colours

I chose this colour scheme
because for the

allow me to make it a bit
more realistic/detailed.

Film Synopsis
Location: The great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt
Number of Main Characters: 3
Year: 2022
Background Plot Information: The Great Pyramid of Giza feeds off of the souls of those who die within its walls to keep its
foundations strong. There is an object to lure people in and the challenges are designed to kill those people so the pyramid can feed
from them. However, if the pyramid does not get the souls it needs each time it will collapse.
Start:
A college history class take a trip to Egypt to visit the Giza pyramids. In the morning they take a coach trip from their hotel to the
pyramids. They gather outside the pyramids with their teacher before being taken inside by their tour guide. During the tour they
make a stop in one of the tomb rooms with the tour guide speaking of information about the room. Three of the students, June, Elliot
and Brendan are stood together at the back of the group. Brendan, who isn't paying much attention to the tour guide, spots
something shiny showing through and opening in the wall to the left of the room and walks over to it. June and Elliot both follow him
to see what their friend is doing. They all go through the opening and Brendon touches the object he saw shining and the opening
closes, trapping the three inside the room.
Middle:
The movie continues with the three students making their way through various parts of the pyramid. Each room holds a different
challenge, each one being more dangerous than the last. One of the easier and early rooms contains a puzzle that they have to solve
and one of the later more dangerous rooms contains a deep pit filled with venomous snakes and a gemstone on a pillar by the
entrance. After taking the gemstone they have to jump across pillars that are scattered around the room, all going over the pit, to
make it across to the other side where they place the gemstone in a hole on the wall to open the door. The pillars are unstable and
could collapse at any time, many of them shake as they jump across. If one of the students falls, they will die to the snakes below. The
students have to work together to try and escape each room without dying.
End:
They manage to survive all the challenges and escape. However, when they go through the exit they are at the top of the pyramid.
The whole pyramid starts shaking and collapsing and they have to try and get down quickly to save themselves. They just manage to
reach the bottom and get a safe distance away before the pyramid collapses completely.
Movie Logo Ideas and tagline
I decided to create a few different versions of a
movie logo, so I had more options. I wanted to try
and create a logo that wasn't just plain text, but not
to over the top because of the images that will
be on the advertising. I stuck to simple shapes and
the basic egyptian colours to do this.
My favourites from these 4 are the top left and the
bottom right. These are both simple, but I think they
would look quite effective on my advertising. When
I produce my first bit of advertising, I will place both
of these on it to see which one looks the best. I will
then use whichever I choose across all my
advertising to keep it consitent.
Tagline ideas: "Friendship tested to the limit", "The ultimate test of friendship", "an unexpected fight for survival"

Evaluation
Research
For my research I covered a range of products such as a book cover, movie scene, movie poster,
video games, and a tv show. This allowed me to see different music, puzzles, poster layout, and
visuals. I looked into each product in detail and wrote about the individual aspects to focus on the
main adventure conventions I could find. This then allowed me to decide how I could potentially use
these conventions in my own work. Doing my research in this way allowed me to have a strong
starting point when it came to the pre-production and planning process as I already knew the type
of things I would need to include. If I was to do my research again I would look at a few more
existing products to further my understanding of the adventure conventions.
Planning
My plannin
g really helped me to produce my final products as it allowed me to fully think eveyrthing through
and map it out on paper instead of just jumping straight into it. I was able to thoroughly plan out
what each part of my production would look like by drawing out different layouts and designs with
labels stating what each part was to make the diagrams even clearer. Making these diagrams
allowed me to not miss out any part of my pieces of work and gave me a clear understanding of
what I wanted to achieve. I also created a moodboard with the basic colours and fonts that I would
be using the most across my products. If I was to do my planning again I would add more to my
mood board and plan some more different types of advertisements for more variation.
Time Management
Due to the national lockdown managing time proved to be more of a challenge then I originally
thought and trying to work consistantly from home without distractions was difficult. I managed to
get through the research, planning and pre production stages on time as I already knew the type of
things I wanted to look at in the research which then made the planning pre production section
easier and quicker to complete. When I started the production section of the project I made myself
a simple time table and gave myself a few things to do each week leading up to the deadline. I
followed this pretty well apart from when I reached the end with the game level and and cut scene I
lost time due to flooding. Due to this I ended up having less time to complete these last parts of my
production meaning I ended up missing out some parts of these. Despite the last inconvienece I
managed to stick to the set time well. If I had more time I would have done more with my cut scene
and added people talking for the characters, other sound effects for background noise and walking
sounds.
Technical Qualities
The magazine and advertisement composition its good as the way I did it allows the eye to follow down the page
starting at the top with what is most important for example, the magazine title and the movie name. Everything is
also visible on the page, I made sure to not make each one too crowded or messy and I stuck to a similar design for
each to keep some consistency. I used animation across all of my video game products. I animated a snake moving
around the menu board along with a flickering torch and a gem, these are all things that would be seen throughout
the game creating an immediate link and again keeping consistency. On my game level design I animated lava
shooting upwards, a plank breaking and falling, along with the gem and torch seen on the menu screen. I chose to
animate this product to fully show how the level works. For the cut scene I animated my characters moving, gem
being pushed, doorway appearing, and the floor opening up. I wanted to challenge myself more for this product by
including a lot of animation, I also made text appear on the screen with the words the characters would be saying. All
of the animation across the three pieces work great and mostly run smoothly.
Aesthetic Qualities
My aim was to produce work that was set in an Egyptian pyramid therefore all my work had to show that. I did this
by placing a pyramid in the background of all my advertisement products, placing the characters in front of it to
make it stand out. I also used darker colours for these products to give off a sense of the danger that the movie
would include. I used hieroglyphics in the background of my magazine cover as my original pyramid design made it
look messy with all of the text. I again placed the main characters on top of this in the middle of the page to keep
consistency with the design.
For my video game products, I used a range of different pyramid themed colours such as a sandy colour, blue,
orange and green. To make it seem like they were in a pyramid I added some sandy bricks into the walls across all
the pieces, I also included a bit of hieroglyphics on the wall in my game level design to further emphasize this idea.
Aural Qualities
I created two bits of audio to fully show how it would work. I had a slower audio for the cutscene and menu
screen, this would be the basic audio soundtrack for the whole game. I then made the audio faster and added a lot
of different drum sounds. This part of the soundtrack is used over the game levels where the players are
completing dangerous tasks to create suspense and further the idea of it being an adventure game. After looking at
some Egyptian style music and other temple themed adventure games I noticed that long notes are a common
feature, so I included this in my audio. I also wanted the fun adventure aspect to show across all points of the
audio, so I did this by adding a few faster notes in the background. For the faster version of the audio, I made the
longer notes quieter and had the drums as the most dominant sound. Overall, I think my audio works well with my
products, but I could have added more layers to make them sound more Egyptian.
Audience Appeal
My target audience was both genders and teenagers from ages 13-17. To appeal to this age group, I made my main
characters students and had them feature on the all my advertising products, magazine cover, and as the characters in
the video game. By making my characters within that age range, the younger end would aspire to be the main characters
as they often look up to those older than them, and the older end of would link directly with the characters as they are of
similar age. Most teenagers love adventure films and a bit of danger, so I made sure I showed both of those aspects
throughout all of my work. I included lava and breaking planks in my game level, a moving snake in my menu screen, floor
opening up with characters falling in my cutscene, and fire snakes and scorpions in my advertisements, to achieve this in
the best possible way.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
Advertisements and magazine:
I created my magazine cover and advertising using adobe photoshop. I made my magazine and advertisements clear
and effective. I did this by placing the movie title at the top/near the top of the page so it is one of the first things
the viewer would see. The movie title is the most important part of these products and I showed my understanding
of that well. I need to show that the setting off the movie would be in an Egyptian pyramid, so I used a hieroglyphic
themed background on the magazine cover and used an image of a pyramid on my advertisements. One of the main
conventions of movie advertising is having the main characters somewhere on the posters. To put this convention
into use I placed my main characters in middle of the pyramid so they stand out, this also helps to lead the eye
down the page so each aspect will get seen. I also included the gem in the characters hand as this is the main item, I
added a glowing effect around it to make it stand out more. As it is an adventure movie there would be some
danger so to get this across to my audience, I made the background of my advertisements using darker tones such
as black, dark oranges, and red. I also included flames in front of the characters to compliment the background
along with giving off a greater sense of danger. To add to these two aspects, I included a snake and scorpion on the
pyramid as these are two of the dangers the characters will face. I also needed to show the release date so for the
magazine cover I placed it near the bottom of the characters as another way to lead the eye across the page, I did a
similar thing with my advertisements by making a black box and placing the information in there so it would stand
out. My use of composition was simple but effective and made these products easy on the eye.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
Logo:
I created my movie logo in adobe photoshop. I knew my logo had to fit with the Egyptian theme, so I looked through
a bunch of different fonts that showed this in some way and eventually picked papyrus as this showed it the best. I
made the colour of the font a sandy colour to ensure it matched the theme perfectly. I added a shadow onto the
text to make it stand out. To improve the logo I could have added an outline on the text or made it a bit more bold
so it would stand out more on each page.
Character design:
I created my characters in adobe photoshop. As they are teenagers, I wanted to keep the characters pretty basic, so
I chose a simple design. I wanted to make sure they resemble the characters on the advertisements, so I matched
their hair colour and clothes colour. To improve I would have made them a bit bigger to give me room for a few
more details like mouth, ears, and a bit of design on the clothing.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
Menu Screen:
I created my menu screen using adobe photoshop. I recreated my logo the best I could and placed it at the top of
the screen along with some shading so it would stand out. I created a menu box and put the two standard options
on it, play and settings. I also added some shading around the outside of this to make sure it didn’t merge in with
the background. I wanted to include some animation for this piece to fully show how it would work. I animated a
snake slithering around the edge of the box, a snake is one of the dangers the characters will face in the game and I
also featured it on my advertising, linking the pieces together. I also made links to other parts of the game and
advertising with the glowing gem I animated. I wanted to show what it would look like when pressing one of the
options, so I created an animation to show this. I had a curser moving across the screen clicking the play button
which turned green and then a loading screen appeared. I believe this was an effective way of showing how it would
work and the animation itself moved smoothly. To improve this product, I would add more smaller details around
such as a pile of rocks to give more depth and creativity to the page.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
Game level design:
I made my game level design on adobe photoshop. To make my game level look like it is in a tomb I added smaller
details on the wall such as the bricks and a small coloured pattern on the top and bottom of the wall. I used colours
that are common in the hieroglyphics. I also included a big feature hieroglyphic art on the wall to empahasise this
idea. I included the torches and gem from the menu screen to create a direct link between the two and show that
the gem is an important item. I used shading done the walls to create depth and make it look like there is a deep pit
in the room. To show the danger and emphasise the idea that it is an adventure game, I added lava at the bottom of
the pit. To fully show how this level would work I added a small bit of animation. I made the lava shoot up into the
air and one of the planks break and fall down showing the danger that they will be facing; this animation runs
smoothly. To improve I would add some sound effects for the lava shooting up and the plank breaking.
Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
Game Cut scene:
I created my cut scene in adobe photoshop. Like with my other game products I put some bricks on the walls to add
some extra detail to the scene. Using the same character design from before I created the rest of the class group for
the main characters to stand with. I created two different backgrounds/scenes and the animation transition
between the two is smooth and works well. I animated the characters walking around from one room to the other
which was mostly smooth apart from a few sections. I also animated an opening appearing which runs smoothly. In
the second room I featured another gem in a wall with a light beam shining off of it. I animated it so when the
character presses the gem the light disappears, and the floor starts to open up beneath them. I animated the floor
opening in small chunks to make sure the animation was smooth. I then added an animated screen blackout at the
end of the cutscene to signify the point where they would enter the game levels. To improve on the cut scene, I
would add more details to the scenes as there are a lot of blank spaces. I would also improve in the walking
animation, so it runs completely smoothly. I added text above the characters however it isn't too visible and there is
no actual sound for the characters talking so I would work on this and add speech audio and long with increasing
the size and changing the colour of the text. I would also add sound effects for the floor opening up, the characters
walking, character pressing the gem, and just some general background noise to add atmosphere.

  • 13. Existing Product Indiana Jones The poster/cover uses a huge lettering in full capitals for "Indiana Jones", this is done for dramatic effect, to make it clear which franchise this is a part of and to immediately appeal to fans of the franchise. It also has full capital lettering for "pyramid" and "sorcerer" which has been done again for dramatic effect and also to make these parts clear as they are key parts to the title. The imagery has been done in an unrealistic way, in this case it's art not real photos, to show fiction instead of fact. This is common in adventure posters/covers. The main character has been placed in front of the rest of the imagery to emphasise/show their importance. A lot of the colours are dark which has been done for dramatic effect and to make the title stand out more. These are some conventions I could potentially use in my advertising. I chose to look at this image for some visual ideas. On the walls in the background there are hyroglifics and other egyptian art. This is to set the scene and reinforce the idea of the location of this movie and/or scene. All of the colours used in this are some browns, white, and mainly sand colours. There is also some loose stones off to the side in the background suggesting that the place is quite old. The man in the image is using light to make something happen in the statue map below, this type of puzzle could be something I include in one of the rooms and game levels
  • 14. Existing Product This movie poster again uses large all capital lettering for the movie title to make it stand out and give off a more dramatic effect. The main characters in the film are also the main features on this poster. They are well known actors, the most known has been placed at the front. They have done this to draw attention to the poster just by people recognising their faces. The rest of the poster is really simple with just another character (the horse) and the sky for the background. This is so people focus mainly on the title of the movie, creating more chance for it to be remembered. Creating a simple but effective poster/advertisement like this one is something I can consider doing when creating my own.
  • 15. Existing Product Lara Croft and the temple or osiris – game visual ideas + audio Decoration/scenery - There are a lot of broken wall sections throughout this room which shows that the place is quite old, possibly neglected, it adds to the scenery well as it provides extra little bits of detail to help fully set the location and vibe. Adding extra bits of scenery like this is something I will try to include in my game level. Puzzle/challenge - It's clear that they need to use light to achieve the objective for this section of the game. The light needs to be used in a certain place, certain angle, bouncing off the stones in a certain order to get it to go through a certain spot on the wall. This is a puzzle I could consider having in one of the tomb rooms/levels along with another more dangerous task. General game audio – The background music throughout most of the game seems to be fast pace and it makes the game feel more dramatic as you battle, complete challenges etc. The music chanages when the player completes a section and they can move on further, it becomes slower and calmer. The game also has sound effects for certain actions for example, footstep sounds for running/walking, shooting sounds for guns, sounds of things being destroyed. The types of sounds and background audio are things I will consider using in my game.
  • 16. Existing Product The crystal maze – game visuals + challenge ideas This crystal maze room has lots of small detsails to it which I could consider in my tombs such as, weeds which shows neglect, multiple platform levels, a few bricks scatter on the floor which shows age and neglect, pillars with carvings which I could have hieroglyphics on instead. This puzzle seems to be one where the player has to walk along a thin platform to get to the other side. I could do a similar challenge in one of the pyramid tombs where the students have to walk on a thin, unstable platform over a bit of something dangerous, for example, venomous snakes, lava. This puzzle is one where the player has to avoid wooden beams to get to the other side. I could do a smilar challenge in one of the pyramid tombs where the students have to get through a room covered in laser beams and if they touch them, the room could close in on them or the lasers could burn them.
  • 17. Existing product Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis I have chosen to look at this game because it is and adventure game in the same retro pixel style that my video game will be in. Script – In the game the text shows up above the characters head as they talk. Each character has a different voice and colour of text to make it easier to see who is talking. The text is also bold and clear to make sure it is legible. Using text like this is something I will consider to do in my game, specifically during the cut scene. Music – The audio throughout the whole game seems very simple. I think this is to make sure the music isn't distracting from the gameplay. The music also seems to change with the scenes, each place has its own section of music, and the speed changes depending on what is happening in the storyline. For example, the music speeds up when there is conflict and it is mostly slower when the characters are just walking around or in normal conversation. The change in speed is something I will consider doing for my game, I may speed up the soundtrack during the different levels. Decoration/scenery - There are lots of smaller details for each scene in the game to give it more depth and more of an atmosphere. For the scene above they have created rocks through the use of shading with darker and lighter colours, and machinery to really develop the scene and make it more like a realistic place. Adding extra decoration like this is something I will heavily consider doing myself as I believe it is a key part to making a game look good.
  • 18. Research Summary • What have you learned from your research? I have learned that the movie title needs to be big in order for it to really stand out on any form of poster/advertisement. Having the main characters on the advertisements is a common feature. The music in adventure games is usually quite fast pace to make it feel more dramatic, the pace of the music often changes when something is completed/a new door opens. Having extra decration/details in the background of the game levels helps set the location/scene more. • What aspects of the research will you include within your on work? I will include the common advertisement features such as: big title, main characters in the middle. I will also include extra details in the background of the game level I design. I aim to create a puzzle/challenge similar to those in my crystal maze research page but make them more dangerous.

  • 21. Style Sheet I chose these colour schemes because these are colours most commonly associated and found with egyptian pyramids. The top analogous colour scheme being sandy colours, and the bottom being colours often used on the hyroglyphics found on the walls of the pyramids/tombs I chose this colour scheme because for the advertisements and possibly for a cut scene in the game, I may need to have the sky in the background so having a range of blue colours will allow me to make it a bit more realistic/detailed. Fonts: Papyrus, Bradley Hand ITC, MV Boli, Ink Free Papyrus – This font is my favourite out of the ones I looked at as it is the most egyptian like. It would be great for my movie and game title.

  • 38. Film Synopsis Location: The great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt Number of Main Characters: 3 Year: 2022 Background Plot Information: The Great Pyramid of Giza feeds off of the souls of those who die within its walls to keep its foundations strong. There is an object to lure people in and the challenges are designed to kill those people so the pyramid can feed from them. However, if the pyramid does not get the souls it needs each time it will collapse. Start: A college history class take a trip to Egypt to visit the Giza pyramids. In the morning they take a coach trip from their hotel to the pyramids. They gather outside the pyramids with their teacher before being taken inside by their tour guide. During the tour they make a stop in one of the tomb rooms with the tour guide speaking of information about the room. Three of the students, June, Elliot and Brendan are stood together at the back of the group. Brendan, who isn't paying much attention to the tour guide, spots something shiny showing through and opening in the wall to the left of the room and walks over to it. June and Elliot both follow him to see what their friend is doing. They all go through the opening and Brendon touches the object he saw shining and the opening closes, trapping the three inside the room. Middle: The movie continues with the three students making their way through various parts of the pyramid. Each room holds a different challenge, each one being more dangerous than the last. One of the easier and early rooms contains a puzzle that they have to solve and one of the later more dangerous rooms contains a deep pit filled with venomous snakes and a gemstone on a pillar by the entrance. After taking the gemstone they have to jump across pillars that are scattered around the room, all going over the pit, to make it across to the other side where they place the gemstone in a hole on the wall to open the door. The pillars are unstable and could collapse at any time, many of them shake as they jump across. If one of the students falls, they will die to the snakes below. The students have to work together to try and escape each room without dying. End: They manage to survive all the challenges and escape. However, when they go through the exit they are at the top of the pyramid. The whole pyramid starts shaking and collapsing and they have to try and get down quickly to save themselves. They just manage to reach the bottom and get a safe distance away before the pyramid collapses completely.
  • 39. Movie Logo Ideas and tagline I decided to create a few different versions of a movie logo, so I had more options. I wanted to try and create a logo that wasn't just plain text, but not to over the top because of the images that will be on the advertising. I stuck to simple shapes and the basic egyptian colours to do this. My favourites from these 4 are the top left and the bottom right. These are both simple, but I think they would look quite effective on my advertising. When I produce my first bit of advertising, I will place both of these on it to see which one looks the best. I will then use whichever I choose across all my advertising to keep it consitent. Tagline ideas: "Friendship tested to the limit", "The ultimate test of friendship", "an unexpected fight for survival"

  • 50. Research For my research I covered a range of products such as a book cover, movie scene, movie poster, video games, and a tv show. This allowed me to see different music, puzzles, poster layout, and visuals. I looked into each product in detail and wrote about the individual aspects to focus on the main adventure conventions I could find. This then allowed me to decide how I could potentially use these conventions in my own work. Doing my research in this way allowed me to have a strong starting point when it came to the pre-production and planning process as I already knew the type of things I would need to include. If I was to do my research again I would look at a few more existing products to further my understanding of the adventure conventions.
  • 51. Planning My plannin g really helped me to produce my final products as it allowed me to fully think eveyrthing through and map it out on paper instead of just jumping straight into it. I was able to thoroughly plan out what each part of my production would look like by drawing out different layouts and designs with labels stating what each part was to make the diagrams even clearer. Making these diagrams allowed me to not miss out any part of my pieces of work and gave me a clear understanding of what I wanted to achieve. I also created a moodboard with the basic colours and fonts that I would be using the most across my products. If I was to do my planning again I would add more to my mood board and plan some more different types of advertisements for more variation.
  • 52. Time Management Due to the national lockdown managing time proved to be more of a challenge then I originally thought and trying to work consistantly from home without distractions was difficult. I managed to get through the research, planning and pre production stages on time as I already knew the type of things I wanted to look at in the research which then made the planning pre production section easier and quicker to complete. When I started the production section of the project I made myself a simple time table and gave myself a few things to do each week leading up to the deadline. I followed this pretty well apart from when I reached the end with the game level and and cut scene I lost time due to flooding. Due to this I ended up having less time to complete these last parts of my production meaning I ended up missing out some parts of these. Despite the last inconvienece I managed to stick to the set time well. If I had more time I would have done more with my cut scene and added people talking for the characters, other sound effects for background noise and walking sounds.
  • 53. Technical Qualities The magazine and advertisement composition its good as the way I did it allows the eye to follow down the page starting at the top with what is most important for example, the magazine title and the movie name. Everything is also visible on the page, I made sure to not make each one too crowded or messy and I stuck to a similar design for each to keep some consistency. I used animation across all of my video game products. I animated a snake moving around the menu board along with a flickering torch and a gem, these are all things that would be seen throughout the game creating an immediate link and again keeping consistency. On my game level design I animated lava shooting upwards, a plank breaking and falling, along with the gem and torch seen on the menu screen. I chose to animate this product to fully show how the level works. For the cut scene I animated my characters moving, gem being pushed, doorway appearing, and the floor opening up. I wanted to challenge myself more for this product by including a lot of animation, I also made text appear on the screen with the words the characters would be saying. All of the animation across the three pieces work great and mostly run smoothly.
  • 54. Aesthetic Qualities My aim was to produce work that was set in an Egyptian pyramid therefore all my work had to show that. I did this by placing a pyramid in the background of all my advertisement products, placing the characters in front of it to make it stand out. I also used darker colours for these products to give off a sense of the danger that the movie would include. I used hieroglyphics in the background of my magazine cover as my original pyramid design made it look messy with all of the text. I again placed the main characters on top of this in the middle of the page to keep consistency with the design. For my video game products, I used a range of different pyramid themed colours such as a sandy colour, blue, orange and green. To make it seem like they were in a pyramid I added some sandy bricks into the walls across all the pieces, I also included a bit of hieroglyphics on the wall in my game level design to further emphasize this idea.
  • 55. Aural Qualities I created two bits of audio to fully show how it would work. I had a slower audio for the cutscene and menu screen, this would be the basic audio soundtrack for the whole game. I then made the audio faster and added a lot of different drum sounds. This part of the soundtrack is used over the game levels where the players are completing dangerous tasks to create suspense and further the idea of it being an adventure game. After looking at some Egyptian style music and other temple themed adventure games I noticed that long notes are a common feature, so I included this in my audio. I also wanted the fun adventure aspect to show across all points of the audio, so I did this by adding a few faster notes in the background. For the faster version of the audio, I made the longer notes quieter and had the drums as the most dominant sound. Overall, I think my audio works well with my products, but I could have added more layers to make them sound more Egyptian.
  • 56. Audience Appeal My target audience was both genders and teenagers from ages 13-17. To appeal to this age group, I made my main characters students and had them feature on the all my advertising products, magazine cover, and as the characters in the video game. By making my characters within that age range, the younger end would aspire to be the main characters as they often look up to those older than them, and the older end of would link directly with the characters as they are of similar age. Most teenagers love adventure films and a bit of danger, so I made sure I showed both of those aspects throughout all of my work. I included lava and breaking planks in my game level, a moving snake in my menu screen, floor opening up with characters falling in my cutscene, and fire snakes and scorpions in my advertisements, to achieve this in the best possible way.
  • 57. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Advertisements and magazine: I created my magazine cover and advertising using adobe photoshop. I made my magazine and advertisements clear and effective. I did this by placing the movie title at the top/near the top of the page so it is one of the first things the viewer would see. The movie title is the most important part of these products and I showed my understanding of that well. I need to show that the setting off the movie would be in an Egyptian pyramid, so I used a hieroglyphic themed background on the magazine cover and used an image of a pyramid on my advertisements. One of the main conventions of movie advertising is having the main characters somewhere on the posters. To put this convention into use I placed my main characters in middle of the pyramid so they stand out, this also helps to lead the eye down the page so each aspect will get seen. I also included the gem in the characters hand as this is the main item, I added a glowing effect around it to make it stand out more. As it is an adventure movie there would be some danger so to get this across to my audience, I made the background of my advertisements using darker tones such as black, dark oranges, and red. I also included flames in front of the characters to compliment the background along with giving off a greater sense of danger. To add to these two aspects, I included a snake and scorpion on the pyramid as these are two of the dangers the characters will face. I also needed to show the release date so for the magazine cover I placed it near the bottom of the characters as another way to lead the eye across the page, I did a similar thing with my advertisements by making a black box and placing the information in there so it would stand out. My use of composition was simple but effective and made these products easy on the eye.
  • 58. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Logo: I created my movie logo in adobe photoshop. I knew my logo had to fit with the Egyptian theme, so I looked through a bunch of different fonts that showed this in some way and eventually picked papyrus as this showed it the best. I made the colour of the font a sandy colour to ensure it matched the theme perfectly. I added a shadow onto the text to make it stand out. To improve the logo I could have added an outline on the text or made it a bit more bold so it would stand out more on each page. Character design: I created my characters in adobe photoshop. As they are teenagers, I wanted to keep the characters pretty basic, so I chose a simple design. I wanted to make sure they resemble the characters on the advertisements, so I matched their hair colour and clothes colour. To improve I would have made them a bit bigger to give me room for a few more details like mouth, ears, and a bit of design on the clothing.
  • 59. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Menu Screen: I created my menu screen using adobe photoshop. I recreated my logo the best I could and placed it at the top of the screen along with some shading so it would stand out. I created a menu box and put the two standard options on it, play and settings. I also added some shading around the outside of this to make sure it didn’t merge in with the background. I wanted to include some animation for this piece to fully show how it would work. I animated a snake slithering around the edge of the box, a snake is one of the dangers the characters will face in the game and I also featured it on my advertising, linking the pieces together. I also made links to other parts of the game and advertising with the glowing gem I animated. I wanted to show what it would look like when pressing one of the options, so I created an animation to show this. I had a curser moving across the screen clicking the play button which turned green and then a loading screen appeared. I believe this was an effective way of showing how it would work and the animation itself moved smoothly. To improve this product, I would add more smaller details around such as a pile of rocks to give more depth and creativity to the page.
  • 60. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Game level design: I made my game level design on adobe photoshop. To make my game level look like it is in a tomb I added smaller details on the wall such as the bricks and a small coloured pattern on the top and bottom of the wall. I used colours that are common in the hieroglyphics. I also included a big feature hieroglyphic art on the wall to empahasise this idea. I included the torches and gem from the menu screen to create a direct link between the two and show that the gem is an important item. I used shading done the walls to create depth and make it look like there is a deep pit in the room. To show the danger and emphasise the idea that it is an adventure game, I added lava at the bottom of the pit. To fully show how this level would work I added a small bit of animation. I made the lava shoot up into the air and one of the planks break and fall down showing the danger that they will be facing; this animation runs smoothly. To improve I would add some sound effects for the lava shooting up and the plank breaking.
  • 61. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final package. Game Cut scene: I created my cut scene in adobe photoshop. Like with my other game products I put some bricks on the walls to add some extra detail to the scene. Using the same character design from before I created the rest of the class group for the main characters to stand with. I created two different backgrounds/scenes and the animation transition between the two is smooth and works well. I animated the characters walking around from one room to the other which was mostly smooth apart from a few sections. I also animated an opening appearing which runs smoothly. In the second room I featured another gem in a wall with a light beam shining off of it. I animated it so when the character presses the gem the light disappears, and the floor starts to open up beneath them. I animated the floor opening in small chunks to make sure the animation was smooth. I then added an animated screen blackout at the end of the cutscene to signify the point where they would enter the game levels. To improve on the cut scene, I would add more details to the scenes as there are a lot of blank spaces. I would also improve in the walking animation, so it runs completely smoothly. I added text above the characters however it isn't too visible and there is no actual sound for the characters talking so I would work on this and add speech audio and long with increasing the size and changing the colour of the text. I would also add sound effects for the floor opening up, the characters walking, character pressing the gem, and just some general background noise to add atmosphere.
