Project Manager
Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) to install an incline conveying system at CSA
(Glencore) Copper Mine in NSW Australia.
The project included approximately 5km of underground mine development for
nine consecutive conveyors and three underground crushing and loading stations.
On completion of the engineering and the capital costing exercise, the business
case was compared to the existing underground truck haulage system. The results
confirmed the favourable economics of the conveying system and the proposed
budget was approved by the Glencore board of directors.
I was stationed on the mine site during the first three months of the engineering
phase and returned to South Africa to complete the costing and business case
studies.

Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (UK) to project manage the supply of three platinum
concentrate processing plants for Russian Platinum PLC’s Kondyor mine,
Khabarovsk, Eastern Siberia.
The contract scope was for the supply of a process engineering design package
including the provision of all of the mechanical and electrical equipment and a
complete controls and instrumentation package. Structural plant design and piping
was completed by the FLS engineering design offices in the UK and Salt Lake City,
USA.

Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (Germany) to project manage the supply of a Gold
Processing plant at the Pavlik gold mine in Magadan, Eastern Siberia, for the Arlan
Investment group.
The contract scope was for the supply of a process engineering design package
including the provision of all of the mechanical and electrical equipment and a
complete controls and instrumentation package. Structural plant design and piping
was undertaken at the Russian Federations Design institute and reviewed by
mechanical and structural engineers in the FLS Salt Lake City engineering office.
The process design package includes the following,
 Review and report on the Russian laboratory’s ore sample testing report.
 Produce Block flow diagrams,
 Process Design Criteria,
 Process Flow Diagrams,
 Piping &Instrumentation Diagrams,
 Computerised material simulation modelling (Metsim),
 Plant Sampling Plan
 Equipment lists
 Equipment Data Sheets
 Valve list
 Instrument list
 Motor list including power take off and load list
 Plant Operation & Control Philosophy.
The procurement function was undertaken through the FLS UK office who supplied
the functional personnel to procure, inspect, expedite and ship the equipment to
Siberia.
Electrical, instrumentation and controls design was undertaken by the FLS
Copenhagen office who also supplied all of the hardware and software for the
plant.
Construction Management was undertaken by the client’s third part
representatives with supervisory and technical authority provided by FLS technical
supervisors.
Final Process commissioning and ramp-up was FLS responsibility.

Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (Germany) to complete the Verninskoye gold
processing plant in Bodaybo, Easter Siberia for Polyus Gold.
I assumed Project management responsibility for this project at the start of the
plant process commissioning phase, with a mandate to resolve a multitude of issues
related to the performance of the project execution and to bring the plant in to
production in line with the contractual performance guarantees. The guarantees
regarding through-put volume and gold recovery rate, proved to be the biggest
challenge and a team of process and mechanical engineers was assembled to
resolve these issues.

standardised clay brick extruders and protein collagen binders
 Establishment of an independent Coal mine in KZN, which was owned and
operated by Auger Mining Pty Ltd.
 Provided operational assistance to Eskom (SA Power Generation Company) with
experimental underground auger mining projects.

PROFESSIONAL RESUMÉ Edward (Eddie) Byrne May 2015 – October 2015 Bara Consulting/JPMC Consulting Project Manager Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) to install an incline conveying system at CSA (Glencore) Copper Mine in NSW Australia. The project included approximately 5km of underground mine development for nine consecutive conveyors and three underground crushing and loading stations. On completion of the engineering and the capital costing exercise, the business case was compared to the existing underground truck haulage system. The results confirmed the favourable economics of the conveying system and the proposed budget was approved by the Glencore board of directors. I was stationed on the mine site during the first three months of the engineering phase and returned to South Africa to complete the costing and business case studies. Sept 2012 – May2015 Royal Haskoning DHV Project Manager Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (UK) to project manage the supply of three platinum concentrate processing plants for Russian Platinum PLC’s Kondyor mine, Khabarovsk, Eastern Siberia. The contract scope was for the supply of a process engineering design package including the provision of all of the mechanical and electrical equipment and a complete controls and instrumentation package. Structural plant design and piping was completed by the FLS engineering design offices in the UK and Salt Lake City, USA. A typical suspended underground conveyor. PROFESSIONAL RESUMÉ Edward (Eddie) Byrne Project Manager Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (Germany) to project manage the supply of a Gold Processing plant at the Pavlik gold mine in Magadan, Eastern Siberia, for the Arlan Investment group. The contract scope was for the supply of a process engineering design package including the provision of all of the mechanical and electrical equipment and a complete controls and instrumentation package. Structural plant design and piping was undertaken at the Russian Federations Design institute and reviewed by mechanical and structural engineers in the FLS Salt Lake City engineering office. The process design package includes the following,  Review and report on the Russian laboratory’s ore sample testing report.  Produce Block flow diagrams,  Process Design Criteria,  Process Flow Diagrams,  Piping &Instrumentation Diagrams,  Computerised material simulation modelling (Metsim),  Plant Sampling Plan  Equipment lists  Equipment Data Sheets  Valve list  Instrument list  Motor list including power take off and load list  Plant Operation & Control Philosophy. The procurement function was undertaken through the FLS UK office who supplied the functional personnel to procure, inspect, expedite and ship the equipment to Siberia. Electrical, instrumentation and controls design was undertaken by the FLS Copenhagen office who also supplied all of the hardware and software for the plant. Construction Management was undertaken by the client’s third part representatives with supervisory and technical authority provided by FLS technical supervisors. Final Process commissioning and ramp-up was FLS responsibility. Project Manager Sub-contracted to FLSmidth (Germany) to complete the Verninskoye gold processing plant in Bodaybo, Easter Siberia for Polyus Gold. I assumed Project management responsibility for this project at the start of the plant process commissioning phase, with a mandate to resolve a multitude of issues related to the performance of the project execution and to bring the plant in to production in line with the contractual performance guarantees. The guarantees regarding through-put volume and gold recovery rate, proved to be the biggest challenge and a team of process and mechanical engineers was assembled to resolve these issues.
