Mock-Up Ideas for a Music Advertisement   Drew Middleton
Mock-Up Idea  One This was the first music advertisement I experimented with. I chose to place a medium close-up camera shot, roughly in the centre, for a superior appearance of the artist. Afterwards, I used the ‘spot healing’ brush (on Adobe Photoshop 6.0) to give the image a fresh and vibrant look.  Additionally, the background is quite articulate and original; multi-coloured, paint-like strokes present a imaginative and surreal background, surrounding the artist. The contrast between a rainbow themed and black background shows the artist (pictured) as breaking through imagination (represented by many colours).  Text is presented in front of the black background. All text is bold, to stand out to the audience, and presents in light-hearted colours. The artist name is created using white font and a strikethrough effect, with the title of the album, ‘Love Songs’, has a Broadway (theatre) style appearance.  The presence of an ‘Out Now’ caption, which is underlined, suggests that the audience can, and should purchase the item.
Mock-Up Idea  Two For this mock-up, I decided to construct a variation of my first, and original idea. The dominant image is still present, as is the artist name, album title and caption (‘new album out now’). The background however is yet again multi-coloured, but with the difference of ‘paint splodges’, compared to ‘brush strokes’. This effect is more relatable to the ‘pop’ genre and a youthful audience; the paint is graffiti-like, so appears artistic and fluent.
Mock-Up Idea  Three For this mock-up, I decided to implement various other features (to trial and error some other distinctive advertising ideas). To begin with I wanted to ensure that some critical reviews were noticeable, therefore I have named two well known music magazines alongside a rating of the proposed album. The rating’s varied i.e. one given out of 10 (/10) and one presented through stars. These are both common scores/ratings when reviewing any form of media. I have also experimented with the caption, adding a date (’21 st  September’) and where the item is available from (‘Itunes’). These techniques may be more attractive than others i.e. ‘out now’ to an audience. The image has also been altered with a ‘note paper’ effect, with a blue, light-hearted tone. A specific brush for musical notes was also used – relating to the profession and purpose of the music artist.

The artist name is created using white font and a strikethrough effect, with the title of the album, ‘Love Songs’, has a Broadway (theatre) style appearance. The presence of an ‘Out Now’ caption, which is underlined, suggests that the audience can, and should purchase the item.
  • 3. Mock-Up Idea Two For this mock-up, I decided to construct a variation of my first, and original idea. The dominant image is still present, as is the artist name, album title and caption (‘new album out now’). The background however is yet again multi-coloured, but with the difference of ‘paint splodges’, compared to ‘brush strokes’. This effect is more relatable to the ‘pop’ genre and a youthful audience; the paint is graffiti-like, so appears artistic and fluent.
  • 4. Mock-Up Idea Three For this mock-up, I decided to implement various other features (to trial and error some other distinctive advertising ideas). To begin with I wanted to ensure that some critical reviews were noticeable, therefore I have named two well known music magazines alongside a rating of the proposed album. The rating’s varied i.e. one given out of 10 (/10) and one presented through stars. These are both common scores/ratings when reviewing any form of media. I have also experimented with the caption, adding a date (’21 st September’) and where the item is available from (‘Itunes’). These techniques may be more attractive than others i.e. ‘out now’ to an audience. The image has also been altered with a ‘note paper’ effect, with a blue, light-hearted tone. A specific brush for musical notes was also used – relating to the profession and purpose of the music artist.
