9. National Council for Teacher Education 1993
The objective of National Council of Teacher Education
is achieving planned and coordinated development
of the teacher education system in the country. This
is considered as the land mark in the history of
teacher education in India. NCTE was entrusted to
undertake several responsibilities.
• To undertake surveys and studies relating to various
aspects of teacher education and publish the result .
• To make recommendations to the Central and State
Governments, Universalities, UGC in the matter of
preparation of suitable plans in the field of teacher
education.

To formulate schemes for various levels of teacher education and identify recognized
Institutions and set up new Institutions for teacher development.
To lay down standards in respect of examinations leading to teacher education
qualifications, criteria for admissions to such examinations and schemes of courses.
To take all necessary steps to prevent commercialization of teacher education.
To coordinate and monitor teacher education and its development in the country.

12. National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2005
• The pre-service training programs are required to be more
comprehensive .

practice through school internship.
• The subject areas consisting of health education, physical
education and yoga needs to be suitably integrated into the
elementary and secondary pre-service teacher education
courses.

14. National Education Policy (2020):
The TETs will also be extended to cover teachers across all stages ( Preparatory,
Middle and Secondary) of school education.
Incentives will be provided for teachers to take up teaching jobs in rural areas,
especially in areas that are currently facing acute shortage of quality teachers.
In rural areas, special merit-based scholarships will be established

Teachers will be given continuous opportunities for self-improvement and to
learn the latest innovations and advances in their professions
A technology-based comprehensive teacher-requirement planning
To ensure an adequate number of teachers across subjects - particularly in
subjects such as art, physical education, vocational education, and languages
Teachers in private schools also must have qualified similarly through TET, a
demonstration/interview, and knowledge of local language(s).

A common guiding set of National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST)
will be developed by 2022, by the National Council for Teacher Education
By 2030, the minimum degree qualification for teaching will be a 4-year
integrated B.Ed. Degree
B.Ed. degrees would be offered only by accredited multidisciplinary higher
education institutions offering 4-year integrated B.Ed. programmes.
By 2021, a new and comprehensive National Curriculum Framework for
Teacher Education, NCFTE 2021, will be formulated by the NCTE in consultation
with NCERT, based on the principles of National Education Policy 2020.
