2. The shape of products are managed using
the surface modeling techniques. Surface models are
three-dimensional models with no thickness and
unlike solid models, they do not have mass
properties. CATIA V5 provides a number of surface
modeling tools to create complex three-
dimensional surface models.
Surface design is any type of artwork (pattern,
illustration, hand lettering, etc.) made by a designer
that is intended to be applied to a surface to
enhance its visual appearance and/or functionality.

3. Surface modelling in CATIA is supported by
generative shape design which has more commands
than wire frame and surface design. It offers
capability to model the complex surfaces in various
engineering applications such as in automobiles,
aeroplanes etc.
