Reflections:
Unit 2: Traditional and Communicative Methodological approaches.
Language strategies learning approach is an approach based on the fact that
students should learn strategies at the moment to face a skill development lesson.
In other words, the teacher must be aware that the student is able and that he
knows how to perform perfectly when he does a reading or a listening.
I and Classmate, Jaime Saez, tried to summarize in the best possible way,
because this is an issue that all teacher must be aware of. How could a student be
able to comprehend a reading or a listing if the teacher does not give the students
the means to do it?
Unit 3: Linguistic skills.
Speaking is one of the most common uses of the English language. That is why it
is so important to learn it and must be taught properly. In this essay we compare
the main ideas of Douglas Brown and Burkhart in the area of developing the
speaking skill.
Based on Douglas Brown, I can say that speaking being one of the principal
performances of English, it is not taught properly, because many teachers do not
allows students pro produce language and the do not encourage student to do it, it
is easier to them if the student jus repeat after the teacher.
Unit 4: Linguistic Systems
Grammar is a controversial topic at the moment of learning a L2. That is why some
researchers try to give a hint about how to teach it, and how must be focused in
order to encourage student’s learning.
Personally, I can say that this linguistic system has been a hard subject of study for
many students. Because, even bases on the fact that exist an universal grammar,
that should be an aid at the moment of learning the language, English grammar
and Spanish grammar are completely different, and the interference between this
two languages is very important. Also, I concluded that isolated grammar classes
are not a helpful way of learning the language. The grammar rules should be
learned and taught in context and not from isolated sentences, that the rules
should not be explicitly taught and the student should be the one who guess the
rule by context
