• A subaltern is someone with a low ranking in a social, political or other hierarchy. It
can also mean someone who has been marginalized or oppressed.Subaltern occupy
entry level jobs or occupy a lower rung of the ‘ Corporate ladder ’.
• Here we will see Caliban as a subaltern and also Eklavya as a subaltern.
10. CALIBAN AS A SUBALTERN :-
• Here character of Caliban we can say as Subaltern.
• He is representing kind of subaltern identity.
• He was a black slave.
• Have no power or voice.
• He has to obey his master.
• He can’t rebel against master.
• Behind these all things power played a vital role in our society.

• He was a Nishdha boy.
• Belong to lower class.
• Because of low cast he can’t get education from Guru Dronacharya.

• Same as Caliban he doesn’t have any power or voice, he doesn’t rebel or go
against his GURU.
• He never learn Archery from Guru Dronacharya yet,he has to pay his right hand’s
thumb as Gurudakshina
12. SUMMING UP :-
• At conclude I want to say that ‘A Tempest ’ by Aime Cesaire is a play
largely based on Shakespeare’s ‘ The Tempest ’ with only a few
changes.
• We can say that here Eklavya and Caliban are presented as
Subaltern because there are someone who ruling them by the power.
If there are rulers then obviously the subaltern or servant for serve to
them.
