2. Representation
The aim of psychological thrillers is usually to present a
disfigured view of reality, as well as the ambiguity of
which occurs due to a character’s mental illness of who
is most likely to be a protagonist. This is represented in
a way that enables the audience to escape from reality’s
‘norms’. Plots of psychological thrillers are likely to be
based on realistic and sensitive issues, presenting the
effects of mental disorders. Therefore, it is imperative
that the representations are also realistic to prevent
any offences.
3. Typography
It is important that the same typography is used
throughout the film, with a continuous theme relating
to the film and the genre, in order to make it easier to
be indentified by the audience and to make the film
distinctive from others of the same genre.
4. Narrative
Successful advertising of any film is key and has to involve a
symbol or image brand that relative to the narrative of the
film to avoid confusion within the audience. After the
audience has been enticed by the use of successful
advertising methods of a Psychological thriller film, the
next important element is the narrative of which has to
keep the audience entertained. Therefore the film needs to
be clear in order to ensure that the audience understands
the narrative, but not in a way of which is patronising,
thereby enigma codes can be used to keep the audience
engaged and intrigued to know what is going on.
5. Audience
Audiences anticipate watching a film with hope that the
film will succeed their expectations of which they had
built from other films they may have watched of the
same genre. This makes it even more imperative that
conventions of a Psychological Thriller are fulfilled but
it is also important that the narrative is original, so the
audience don’t feel as though it is a repeat of a film
they’ve seen before. Advertising is what draws
audience’s in initially, so it is important to create forms
of advertising (posters and trailers) that are
distinctive, presenting the plot without giving
everything away.
