PASTICHE RESEARCH TASK
Kevin Meredith
I like the look of this photographers work because,
they are a collection of photographs of different
angles aiming at a models body, and has been edited
to create a single piece of work.
I enjoy looking at this photographers work, because it
reminds me of another photographer which I studied
during GCSE Photography called pep Ventosa. Who
specialised in taking a photo of an object then moving
a small amount to take another picture of the same
object and merge them together.
• the first image I feel like I could
improve on because of how
unusual it looks and it doesn’t
really look like his work. I feel like
I could have improved this
outcome by just adjusting the
brightness and shadows of the
image instead of adjusting the
hue and saturation.
• For the second picture I feel like
the top section which holds the
head of the model makes her
look sunburnt, this is because I
used hdr toning to make the top
part of the image different to the
rest. I could improve this image
by thinking about my editing and
not going over the top with the
amount of a aspect of photoshop
I add to the edit
• I feel like the third
and final outcome of
this shoot was my
most successful this
is because none of
the parts of the
pictures are edited to
much and it look
more like his work
where as the others
don’t.
Rankin
I chose Rankin as one of my photographers
because I like how bold and simplistic they are.
I enjoy looking at his work because he has done a
lot of work going towards different charities like
Macmillan cancer research.
I like the bottom left picture because it is a simple
picture but has a meaning behind it. This photo
was featured in a collection where he has gotten
different celebrities to pose while holding a mug in
frame. This is to symbolise Macmillan cancer
research.
I chose the bottom right picture because I want to
experiment with different types of photos featuring
different types of props to what I have
experimented with in the past.
Finally I chose the top right picture because of how
much is going on in the picture. The model is
standing in the mid right centre of the frame with
her hair blowing in the air. I want to Pastiche this
piece of work from this photographer. This is
something I am looking to get into when I leave
education and go on top getting a job as a
photographer.
• The first edit I am proud off because the
amount of fans used was 2 and they
created enough wind for the models hair
to flow in the air. One thing I would
improve for this image is the fact that I
wasn’t very vocal with my model and
that is a key aspect of being a
professional photographer.
• The second image is by far my
favourite outcome for this
photographer because this
took the less work to get
around. The thing I want to
improve for next time is the
lighting, the lighting used was
just the lights in my up stairs
hall way.
• For the final image this took more
work because it was a very hard
decision to make of what photo
from the shoot to use. I feel like I
could improve my editing on this
photo because I wasn’t sure how
to edit it so I used hdr toning and
went from their. Also the location
of the shoot is behind college I feel
like it would be better with a plain
background like the 2 other photos
Slinkachu
I chose this photographers work because of
how much time and detail that must have
gone into creating these pieces of work.
The only difference their will be between
these shoots and mine will be the items used
I will not be using little toy figures like the
ones used in these images I will be using toy
soldiers.
I chose the bottom left image because it is a
very relatable image which people ego
through everyday while walking around busy
areas getting a piece of gum on the bottom of
your shoe.
I chose the bottom right hand picture
because of the fact I am going to be using toy
soldiers that is something soldiers in the war
go through most the time.
Finally I chose the top right picture because I
find it very creative by using the letters from
sweet wrappers.
• The first photo is one of my
favourites, this is because even
though this isn’t the type of
photographs I would normally do I
found it very exciting to widen my
range on types of photography. I
edited this image by using the
clone tool to erase the bases of
the army men and then using the
burn tool I made it look like they
have a shadow. I feel like the blue
letter ‘s’ and the ’o’ could be
bigger
• I really like how this
image turned out. I
edited this image by
using the Hue And
Saturation to change
the colour of the
object stuck to the
floor which was blue
tack . What I would
improve with this
shoot is the location
maybe an empty
background at a park
and not my back
garden.
• The last photo is my favourite. I
used a needle from my sisters
sewing kit and an army man
from a collection from when I
was younger. The only thing I
edited into this image was the
red because I didn’t have ant
fake blood or anything when I
was doing the shoot so I used
the brush tool to make it look as
realistic as I can.
PASTICHE PHOTOSHOOTS
ISO:
• Iso stands for the international Organization for standardization. Iso is
your cameras sensitivity to light. Meaning the higher your ISO is on
your camera the more light that is going to leak into your les and
make your image brighter.
Aperture: f/stops.
• Aperture refers to the opening of a lens diaphragm through which
light passes through, Lower aperture gives more exposure because
the lens is more open, whereas higher aperture gives a less exposed
outcome because the lens isn’t open as much at the lower aperture.
• The larger your aperture the less depth of field, the smaller your
depth of field the more depth of field you will get.
Shutter Speed:
• Shutter speed is the setting which are the main focus in sport
photography this is because it is used to capturer movement. Shutter
speed is a measurement of time the shutter is open, show in seconds
or fractions of a second. The faster the shutter speed the easier it is
to photograph the object without blur and smaller the effects of
camera shake.
Depth of field: DoF
• DoF is the distance between the nearest and furthest objects in a
photo that appear to be sharp in an image. A shallow depth of field is
good for focusing on an object which is closer to the camera.
The forum exhibition: portraits of life!
The photos in the exhibition show the daily life
of people in the 50s/60s shot by photographer
Jack Roberts. The photos all show different
part of Norwich and what the street where
like after WWII. I enjoyed viewing the
exhibition because I was able to see what the
city where I used to go when I was younger
was like back in the day when my Grandad was
a young boy. In some of the photos you could
see a really thick fog which flooded across the
city of Norwich back then.
The main aspects of these pictures that
helped me identify the fact that these were
taken of the aftermath of the war, is the type
of cars, the aftermath of houses being
exploded by bombs, and also the fact that it is
black and white It helps show how dull the city
and how the people were feeling after having
one of the worlds worst and deadliest war
ever in history.

Tim walker
Tim walker is a
British fashion
photographer who
usually works for
vogue.
I like this image because of
how bright it is. I also like how
the model is placed in the
centre and is the main object
in focus where as the
background is not
I like this image because, it
looks peaceful with the model
in the centre with some vines
over her. I also like how there is
a mixture of colour with the
models bright orange hair and
the sky is light blue with white
clouds.
I like this photo because, the use of a
fisheye lens gives it a aboriginal
look. I like the use of colour in this
photo Walker used dark muggy
colour to give it a atmosphere
Mariano Vivanco
Mariano Vivanco is a Peruvian photographer, who mainly focuses on fashion and portrait photography.
I like this photographers work because of how he takes his shots. Most of his fashion photographs are of male models
against a plain white back group. They usually consist of muscled men which helps promote the fashion brand that he is
photographing

Gillian laubGillian Laub is an American photographer
and film maker based New York. She
graduated from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in
comparative literature before studying
photography at the International Centre of
Photography
I like this photo by the photographer because she is
documenting the joys that kids have in their body while
having a day at the beach. I like how she had the 3
models placed in the centre, right, and left of the frame,
and the beach visible between them
I like this image by this
photographer this is because
she is documenting a memory
of the models. As you can see
the model is holding a photo of
two children which I am
thinking are him and his brother
visiting Santa while they were
younger
Again I like this photograph by Laub, this
Is because she is documenting a very
special day in the models life. It looks like
a weeding scene which is mostly the
most happiest time of a persons life.
Overall I really enjoy looking at her work
this is because she document the happy
time and memories we all face in our
adult lives or childhood6
Lauren greenfield
Lauren greenfield is a
American photographer and
filmmaker, she has published
four photogenic monograph
directed for documentary's.
I like this photo because she is
capturing what it is like for a mother of
young infants and toddlers. She is
documenting the life struggles which
most females in the world go through
in their lives.
I like this image because she is
capturing a special moment in the
little girls life. By the looks of the
photo the model has just won a
competition which by the look on
her face
In this photo Lauren greenfield is
documenting life in a hotel room/ she is
showing what luxury's we get when we stay
in a hotel.

Irving penn
Irving Penn was an American photographer known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still life's.
I like his work because I enjoy taking portrait photographs. I like how he has his images in black and white, and
shows a lot of detail on the faces of his models.
This is going to be the subject I take forward in this project. This is because I like capturing details while
photographing portraits.
Annie Leibovitz
Annie Leibovitz is an American portrait photographer. She is best known for her engaging portraits,
particularly of celebrities, which often feature subject in intimate setting and poses.
I like this photographers work because she creates very creative photos with her celebrities which she includes in her images. I
like the first image because she has kept with one main colour in this image the colour green. The second picture I find
interesting because it is a photo of Leonardo de Caprio and it reminds me of the movie TITANIC he was in and with the photo
being in black and white make sit look like it was taken at the year the film was based in. Finally I enjoy looking at the final picture
this is because it looks like Cinderella which is a well known fairy tale and Disney film which also enjoy watching in my spare time.

FIRST PORTRAITURE
SHOOT
For this shoot I didn’t really know what I
was doing I was just photographing my
class mates. Then after a group crit with Jon
I came up with the idea of mental health.
This is because et is something that I relate
to
Edits
What happened next
• After the first week of this assignment I found out what I had to do to
complete this task
• After a group crit with my course leader I made up my mind on what I
was going to base my work around and that would be mental health
issues.
MAGAZINE COVER MOOD BOARDS
Ii really liked the look of time magazine
covers. This is the magazine I will be pushing
forward into this project
List of mental health issues
• Anxiety
• Self harm
• Suicidal thoughts
• Depression
• Personality disorder
• Panic attacks
• Mood disorder.
Mental health magazine covers
At this stage I was researching
different mental health
magazine covers to give me
more knowledge of what I
would need to include in my
cover.
My front cover design
For this edit I took the image from my previous shoot and Photoshop using
double exposure placing a street photography photo of a crowd I took during
first year.
This image is supposed to represent Anxiety and I captioned the story “the
mental health issue that imprisons most people socially !ANXIETY!”
I will be using this as my front cover in the hand in this is because I feel like this
is such a strong piece of work which suits my project perfectly and with mental
health
Self harm
photoshoot
In this photoshoot I focused on the upsetting outcome of some mental
health issues.
I wanted to focus on discretion of the model, even though the model
was happy to show her scars I still wanted to not show any
identification of the model. This is because in the real world when
someone is self harming they don’t agree and accept it they try to hide
it.
Self harm photoshoot edit
I really like this edit from this shoot. I
edited this image by using hdr toning
to adjust the amount of detail on the
arm to make the scars of the model
more noticeable.
Suicidal thoughts
photoshoot
For this photoshoot I focused on the
thoughts someone goes through while
thinking about suicide.
For these images I got my model to cry to
create the mood of the photos
Suicidal thoughts
edit
The only thing I changed in this edit was the brightness because I
felt like the original image was abit to bright.
I also made the are near her eyes more pink to make it more
noticeable that the model was crying.
Depression photoshoot
In this photoshoot I wanted to capture a hidden mental health
issue in people called depression
I wanted my model to make different faces in each photo.
In the future I need to be more vocal with my models because
that is a key aspect in being a professional photographer.
Depression
photoshoot edit
For this edit I took two different images from the
shoot and adjusted the brightness on both images to
make them different top each other.
I placed them side by side and cut of one side of each
one and lined them up as best I can.
It is meant to show that people can appear happy but
on the inside they are depressed.
Panic attacks
photoshoot
In this photoshoot I got my friend from home and
asked her to sit on a bench with her hands between
her knees.
The wanted to make it look like the model is
distancing herself from the rest of the world.
Panic attack
photoshoot edit
I edited this image by using the dodge and burn
tool to make the image darker to give it an
atmosphere I also made the model the brightest
thing in the photo.
Finally I used the gaussian blur tool to make the
background blurry to give the idea that she is
distancing herself.
Context
page
I created a context
page for a time
magazine thinking that
it would be an
editorial. But after a
one on one session
with my course leader
and with help from my
support I realised that
it wasn’t classed as a
editorial. Now I know
what is needed for an
editorial.
Mood disorder
photoshoot
For this photo shoot I instructed my model to pull
different faces in each photo the most challenging park
was when I had to make sure the model didn’t change her
position, because my plan was to layer different pictures
on top of each other.
Mood disorder edit
As a photographer I don’t really think this image is
strong. This is because of the way I edited it. You cant
really see the double exposure and I have-not layered
the images correctly.
Inspiration for
context page.
My plan for my context page is to
combine ideas from these two
context pages from different
magazines to create my own
adaptation of a context page.
Personality disorder
photoshoot 1
For this photo shoot I wanted to target personality
disorder I planned on having a photo of someone in
distress in the centre and different portraits of different
people doubled exposure in each corner of the photo.
Personality
disorder edit 1
I really like the look of how this edit has turned
out this is because of how evenly the faces are
in the photo they are the same size.
I am going to retake the portraits of the photo.
This is because I like how the model in the
bottom left is looking towards the person in the
centre of the frame. I am going to experiment
with that and take some photos of different
people and then have them face towards the
model.
Personality
disorder
reshoot
I re took the portraits
of the previous
photoshoot, because
I wanted to
experiment with the
placement of the
models heads by
directing them to
look in different
directions. So In the
final edit they will be
looking at the model
in distress in the
middle of the shot.
Personality
disorder edit 2
I find that this edit was better
than the previous edit. This is
because all the models are
looking into the centre of the
photo, which gives the
expression that he is being
surrounded by her different
personalities.
Print and dye room
experimentation
At this point during my experience
in the print and dye room I was just
learning how to do stick foil in a
pattern or wording, also learned
how to do puff paints.
Getting
used to
how
the
print
and
dye
room
works
At this stage I was using my skills in
the print and dye room and bringing
them into my work.

This will get printed on 2 pieces of acetate
and then made in to a screen which I can
then transfer the words onto multiple photos
changing positioning and colouring.
!Personal statement!
Im only doing a rough personal statement because I am not going to
university.
Final editorials
My full magazine outcomes
The stories
• The stories I used are not made up by me because I feel as my self not
very creative when it comes to writing.
• I instead used real patient stories from people who have experienced
and are living with the mental health issues that I have been
experimenting with in my work.
Task 4: your future
when I finish college I plan to stay in the creative world of photography. My goals are to become a freelance
photographer or work for a company that specialises in photography.
My favourite types of photography are organic, event and street photography. So I will aim to keep specialising in
these subjects.
• Freelance photography:
• You are your own boss.
• You have control over clients and your work.
• You can become independent in your work.
• Lack of benefits.
• Clients who don’t pay.
• You don’t have other people to review your work and keep you on task.
• Employment:
• You have people their to socialise and have people give you their creative opinions on your work.
• You will be self directed and directed by the business manager.
• Paid vacations/sick days.
• Not a lot of power over what is included in your work.
• A set task not what you want to do all the time.
• Less freedom on work hours.
Evaluation
For this project we have been tasked to create an editorial within the range of different styles of photography. While doing the
initial research task I found that I really enjoyed the subject of portraiture and I knew that was what I wanted to go forward on
within this project.
For my first photoshoot of this task I did not really have any idea of what I was going to do, so I originally just planned on taking
portraits of my friends and then just hope for the best. After a group crit with my course leader and some other students I came up
with an idea to correspond my work to mental health. I began by researching different magazine covers and then mental health
magazines. I finally picked a magazine I liked called “TIME”. Continuing with my research I began by researching different mental
health issues.
To create my first mental health outcome I combined a photo I took form the previous shoot and edited using the double exposure
technique on photoshop with a photo from street photography last year to create an outcome for the mental health issue of
Anxiety.
The previous week helped me a lot for this project, so I continued doing shoots in college and outside of college at home, and
because of the current Covid 19 guidelines I had to work around them to make my shoots work.
The photoshoot I feel that was the most successful was the self-harm photoshoot. This is because of how I kept the models face out
of the picture and keep it anonymous, I like this because most people who do self-harm do not like to admit it.
The photoshoot found that was not the easiest to produce was the suicidal feelings photoshoot. This is because in my idea I wanted
to have a model crying so I asked my model at the time if she can make herself cry. When she managed to do this, I captured some
amazing portrait photography. The thing that made the photoshoot difficult was that I did take the model time to make herself cry.
Overall I found this project very enjoyable, because I feel this was a very good first project to start the second year and to help
jump start my creativity after spending 6 months at home during lockdown.

Location, location, location end of unit powerpoijnt

  • 1. Location, location, location Conner McMorrin second year ual photography student. ccn
  • 4. Kevin Meredith I like the look of this photographers work because, they are a collection of photographs of different angles aiming at a models body, and has been edited to create a single piece of work. I enjoy looking at this photographers work, because it reminds me of another photographer which I studied during GCSE Photography called pep Ventosa. Who specialised in taking a photo of an object then moving a small amount to take another picture of the same object and merge them together.
  • 5. • the first image I feel like I could improve on because of how unusual it looks and it doesn’t really look like his work. I feel like I could have improved this outcome by just adjusting the brightness and shadows of the image instead of adjusting the hue and saturation.
  • 6. • For the second picture I feel like the top section which holds the head of the model makes her look sunburnt, this is because I used hdr toning to make the top part of the image different to the rest. I could improve this image by thinking about my editing and not going over the top with the amount of a aspect of photoshop I add to the edit
  • 7. • I feel like the third and final outcome of this shoot was my most successful this is because none of the parts of the pictures are edited to much and it look more like his work where as the others don’t.
  • 8. Rankin I chose Rankin as one of my photographers because I like how bold and simplistic they are. I enjoy looking at his work because he has done a lot of work going towards different charities like Macmillan cancer research. I like the bottom left picture because it is a simple picture but has a meaning behind it. This photo was featured in a collection where he has gotten different celebrities to pose while holding a mug in frame. This is to symbolise Macmillan cancer research. I chose the bottom right picture because I want to experiment with different types of photos featuring different types of props to what I have experimented with in the past. Finally I chose the top right picture because of how much is going on in the picture. The model is standing in the mid right centre of the frame with her hair blowing in the air. I want to Pastiche this piece of work from this photographer. This is something I am looking to get into when I leave education and go on top getting a job as a photographer.
  • 9. • The first edit I am proud off because the amount of fans used was 2 and they created enough wind for the models hair to flow in the air. One thing I would improve for this image is the fact that I wasn’t very vocal with my model and that is a key aspect of being a professional photographer.
  • 10. • The second image is by far my favourite outcome for this photographer because this took the less work to get around. The thing I want to improve for next time is the lighting, the lighting used was just the lights in my up stairs hall way.
  • 11. • For the final image this took more work because it was a very hard decision to make of what photo from the shoot to use. I feel like I could improve my editing on this photo because I wasn’t sure how to edit it so I used hdr toning and went from their. Also the location of the shoot is behind college I feel like it would be better with a plain background like the 2 other photos
  • 12. Slinkachu I chose this photographers work because of how much time and detail that must have gone into creating these pieces of work. The only difference their will be between these shoots and mine will be the items used I will not be using little toy figures like the ones used in these images I will be using toy soldiers. I chose the bottom left image because it is a very relatable image which people ego through everyday while walking around busy areas getting a piece of gum on the bottom of your shoe. I chose the bottom right hand picture because of the fact I am going to be using toy soldiers that is something soldiers in the war go through most the time. Finally I chose the top right picture because I find it very creative by using the letters from sweet wrappers.
  • 13. • The first photo is one of my favourites, this is because even though this isn’t the type of photographs I would normally do I found it very exciting to widen my range on types of photography. I edited this image by using the clone tool to erase the bases of the army men and then using the burn tool I made it look like they have a shadow. I feel like the blue letter ‘s’ and the ’o’ could be bigger
  • 14. • I really like how this image turned out. I edited this image by using the Hue And Saturation to change the colour of the object stuck to the floor which was blue tack . What I would improve with this shoot is the location maybe an empty background at a park and not my back garden.
  • 15. • The last photo is my favourite. I used a needle from my sisters sewing kit and an army man from a collection from when I was younger. The only thing I edited into this image was the red because I didn’t have ant fake blood or anything when I was doing the shoot so I used the brush tool to make it look as realistic as I can.
  • 17. ISO: • Iso stands for the international Organization for standardization. Iso is your cameras sensitivity to light. Meaning the higher your ISO is on your camera the more light that is going to leak into your les and make your image brighter.
  • 18. Aperture: f/stops. • Aperture refers to the opening of a lens diaphragm through which light passes through, Lower aperture gives more exposure because the lens is more open, whereas higher aperture gives a less exposed outcome because the lens isn’t open as much at the lower aperture. • The larger your aperture the less depth of field, the smaller your depth of field the more depth of field you will get.
  • 19. Shutter Speed: • Shutter speed is the setting which are the main focus in sport photography this is because it is used to capturer movement. Shutter speed is a measurement of time the shutter is open, show in seconds or fractions of a second. The faster the shutter speed the easier it is to photograph the object without blur and smaller the effects of camera shake.
  • 20. Depth of field: DoF • DoF is the distance between the nearest and furthest objects in a photo that appear to be sharp in an image. A shallow depth of field is good for focusing on an object which is closer to the camera.
  • 21. The forum exhibition: portraits of life!
  • 22. The photos in the exhibition show the daily life of people in the 50s/60s shot by photographer Jack Roberts. The photos all show different part of Norwich and what the street where like after WWII. I enjoyed viewing the exhibition because I was able to see what the city where I used to go when I was younger was like back in the day when my Grandad was a young boy. In some of the photos you could see a really thick fog which flooded across the city of Norwich back then. The main aspects of these pictures that helped me identify the fact that these were taken of the aftermath of the war, is the type of cars, the aftermath of houses being exploded by bombs, and also the fact that it is black and white It helps show how dull the city and how the people were feeling after having one of the worlds worst and deadliest war ever in history.
  • 23. Architecture : Bernice Abbott https://www.moma.org/artists/41
  • 29. Tim walker Tim walker is a British fashion photographer who usually works for vogue. I like this image because of how bright it is. I also like how the model is placed in the centre and is the main object in focus where as the background is not I like this image because, it looks peaceful with the model in the centre with some vines over her. I also like how there is a mixture of colour with the models bright orange hair and the sky is light blue with white clouds. I like this photo because, the use of a fisheye lens gives it a aboriginal look. I like the use of colour in this photo Walker used dark muggy colour to give it a atmosphere
  • 30. Mariano Vivanco Mariano Vivanco is a Peruvian photographer, who mainly focuses on fashion and portrait photography. I like this photographers work because of how he takes his shots. Most of his fashion photographs are of male models against a plain white back group. They usually consist of muscled men which helps promote the fashion brand that he is photographing
  • 34. Gillian laubGillian Laub is an American photographer and film maker based New York. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in comparative literature before studying photography at the International Centre of Photography I like this photo by the photographer because she is documenting the joys that kids have in their body while having a day at the beach. I like how she had the 3 models placed in the centre, right, and left of the frame, and the beach visible between them I like this image by this photographer this is because she is documenting a memory of the models. As you can see the model is holding a photo of two children which I am thinking are him and his brother visiting Santa while they were younger Again I like this photograph by Laub, this Is because she is documenting a very special day in the models life. It looks like a weeding scene which is mostly the most happiest time of a persons life. Overall I really enjoy looking at her work this is because she document the happy time and memories we all face in our adult lives or childhood6
  • 35. Lauren greenfield Lauren greenfield is a American photographer and filmmaker, she has published four photogenic monograph directed for documentary's. I like this photo because she is capturing what it is like for a mother of young infants and toddlers. She is documenting the life struggles which most females in the world go through in their lives. I like this image because she is capturing a special moment in the little girls life. By the looks of the photo the model has just won a competition which by the look on her face In this photo Lauren greenfield is documenting life in a hotel room/ she is showing what luxury's we get when we stay in a hotel.
  • 38. Irving penn Irving Penn was an American photographer known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still life's. I like his work because I enjoy taking portrait photographs. I like how he has his images in black and white, and shows a lot of detail on the faces of his models. This is going to be the subject I take forward in this project. This is because I like capturing details while photographing portraits.
  • 39. Annie Leibovitz Annie Leibovitz is an American portrait photographer. She is best known for her engaging portraits, particularly of celebrities, which often feature subject in intimate setting and poses. I like this photographers work because she creates very creative photos with her celebrities which she includes in her images. I like the first image because she has kept with one main colour in this image the colour green. The second picture I find interesting because it is a photo of Leonardo de Caprio and it reminds me of the movie TITANIC he was in and with the photo being in black and white make sit look like it was taken at the year the film was based in. Finally I enjoy looking at the final picture this is because it looks like Cinderella which is a well known fairy tale and Disney film which also enjoy watching in my spare time.

  • 43. FIRST PORTRAITURE SHOOT For this shoot I didn’t really know what I was doing I was just photographing my class mates. Then after a group crit with Jon I came up with the idea of mental health. This is because et is something that I relate to
  • 44.
  • 45. Edits
  • 46. What happened next • After the first week of this assignment I found out what I had to do to complete this task • After a group crit with my course leader I made up my mind on what I was going to base my work around and that would be mental health issues.
  • 47. MAGAZINE COVER MOOD BOARDS Ii really liked the look of time magazine covers. This is the magazine I will be pushing forward into this project
  • 48. List of mental health issues • Anxiety • Self harm • Suicidal thoughts • Depression • Personality disorder • Panic attacks • Mood disorder.
  • 49. Mental health magazine covers At this stage I was researching different mental health magazine covers to give me more knowledge of what I would need to include in my cover.
  • 50. My front cover design For this edit I took the image from my previous shoot and Photoshop using double exposure placing a street photography photo of a crowd I took during first year. This image is supposed to represent Anxiety and I captioned the story “the mental health issue that imprisons most people socially !ANXIETY!” I will be using this as my front cover in the hand in this is because I feel like this is such a strong piece of work which suits my project perfectly and with mental health
  • 51. Self harm photoshoot In this photoshoot I focused on the upsetting outcome of some mental health issues. I wanted to focus on discretion of the model, even though the model was happy to show her scars I still wanted to not show any identification of the model. This is because in the real world when someone is self harming they don’t agree and accept it they try to hide it.
  • 52.
  • 53. Self harm photoshoot edit I really like this edit from this shoot. I edited this image by using hdr toning to adjust the amount of detail on the arm to make the scars of the model more noticeable.
  • 54. Suicidal thoughts photoshoot For this photoshoot I focused on the thoughts someone goes through while thinking about suicide. For these images I got my model to cry to create the mood of the photos
  • 55.
  • 56. Suicidal thoughts edit The only thing I changed in this edit was the brightness because I felt like the original image was abit to bright. I also made the are near her eyes more pink to make it more noticeable that the model was crying.
  • 57. Depression photoshoot In this photoshoot I wanted to capture a hidden mental health issue in people called depression I wanted my model to make different faces in each photo. In the future I need to be more vocal with my models because that is a key aspect in being a professional photographer.
  • 58.
  • 59. Depression photoshoot edit For this edit I took two different images from the shoot and adjusted the brightness on both images to make them different top each other. I placed them side by side and cut of one side of each one and lined them up as best I can. It is meant to show that people can appear happy but on the inside they are depressed.
  • 60. Panic attacks photoshoot In this photoshoot I got my friend from home and asked her to sit on a bench with her hands between her knees. The wanted to make it look like the model is distancing herself from the rest of the world.
  • 61.
  • 62. Panic attack photoshoot edit I edited this image by using the dodge and burn tool to make the image darker to give it an atmosphere I also made the model the brightest thing in the photo. Finally I used the gaussian blur tool to make the background blurry to give the idea that she is distancing herself.
  • 63. Context page I created a context page for a time magazine thinking that it would be an editorial. But after a one on one session with my course leader and with help from my support I realised that it wasn’t classed as a editorial. Now I know what is needed for an editorial.
  • 64. Mood disorder photoshoot For this photo shoot I instructed my model to pull different faces in each photo the most challenging park was when I had to make sure the model didn’t change her position, because my plan was to layer different pictures on top of each other.
  • 65.
  • 66. Mood disorder edit As a photographer I don’t really think this image is strong. This is because of the way I edited it. You cant really see the double exposure and I have-not layered the images correctly.
  • 67. Inspiration for context page. My plan for my context page is to combine ideas from these two context pages from different magazines to create my own adaptation of a context page.
  • 68. Personality disorder photoshoot 1 For this photo shoot I wanted to target personality disorder I planned on having a photo of someone in distress in the centre and different portraits of different people doubled exposure in each corner of the photo.
  • 69.
  • 70. Personality disorder edit 1 I really like the look of how this edit has turned out this is because of how evenly the faces are in the photo they are the same size. I am going to retake the portraits of the photo. This is because I like how the model in the bottom left is looking towards the person in the centre of the frame. I am going to experiment with that and take some photos of different people and then have them face towards the model.
  • 71. Personality disorder reshoot I re took the portraits of the previous photoshoot, because I wanted to experiment with the placement of the models heads by directing them to look in different directions. So In the final edit they will be looking at the model in distress in the middle of the shot.
  • 72. Personality disorder edit 2 I find that this edit was better than the previous edit. This is because all the models are looking into the centre of the photo, which gives the expression that he is being surrounded by her different personalities.
  • 73. Print and dye room experimentation
  • 74. At this point during my experience in the print and dye room I was just learning how to do stick foil in a pattern or wording, also learned how to do puff paints.
  • 75. Getting used to how the print and dye room works At this stage I was using my skills in the print and dye room and bringing them into my work.
  • 76. Print screen template TIME SUICIDAL THOUGHTS What to do if someone You know is thinking of suicide HELPLINES: 116 123 MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE Learn about the world of mental health These words are what I am going to make into a screen print do I can paint the words on to a piece of my work. This will get printed on 2 pieces of acetate and then made in to a screen which I can then transfer the words onto multiple photos changing positioning and colouring.
  • 77.
  • 78.
  • 79. !Personal statement! Im only doing a rough personal statement because I am not going to university.
  • 80.
  • 81. Final editorials My full magazine outcomes
  • 82. The stories • The stories I used are not made up by me because I feel as my self not very creative when it comes to writing. • I instead used real patient stories from people who have experienced and are living with the mental health issues that I have been experimenting with in my work.
  • 83.
  • 84.
  • 85.
  • 86.
  • 87.

  • 91. Task 4: your future when I finish college I plan to stay in the creative world of photography. My goals are to become a freelance photographer or work for a company that specialises in photography. My favourite types of photography are organic, event and street photography. So I will aim to keep specialising in these subjects. • Freelance photography: • You are your own boss. • You have control over clients and your work. • You can become independent in your work. • Lack of benefits. • Clients who don’t pay. • You don’t have other people to review your work and keep you on task. • Employment: • You have people their to socialise and have people give you their creative opinions on your work. • You will be self directed and directed by the business manager. • Paid vacations/sick days. • Not a lot of power over what is included in your work. • A set task not what you want to do all the time. • Less freedom on work hours.
  • 92. Evaluation For this project we have been tasked to create an editorial within the range of different styles of photography. While doing the initial research task I found that I really enjoyed the subject of portraiture and I knew that was what I wanted to go forward on within this project. For my first photoshoot of this task I did not really have any idea of what I was going to do, so I originally just planned on taking portraits of my friends and then just hope for the best. After a group crit with my course leader and some other students I came up with an idea to correspond my work to mental health. I began by researching different magazine covers and then mental health magazines. I finally picked a magazine I liked called “TIME”. Continuing with my research I began by researching different mental health issues. To create my first mental health outcome I combined a photo I took form the previous shoot and edited using the double exposure technique on photoshop with a photo from street photography last year to create an outcome for the mental health issue of Anxiety. The previous week helped me a lot for this project, so I continued doing shoots in college and outside of college at home, and because of the current Covid 19 guidelines I had to work around them to make my shoots work. The photoshoot I feel that was the most successful was the self-harm photoshoot. This is because of how I kept the models face out of the picture and keep it anonymous, I like this because most people who do self-harm do not like to admit it. The photoshoot found that was not the easiest to produce was the suicidal feelings photoshoot. This is because in my idea I wanted to have a model crying so I asked my model at the time if she can make herself cry. When she managed to do this, I captured some amazing portrait photography. The thing that made the photoshoot difficult was that I did take the model time to make herself cry. Overall I found this project very enjoyable, because I feel this was a very good first project to start the second year and to help jump start my creativity after spending 6 months at home during lockdown.
