1. Proposal
The type of magazine that I have chosen to create is a cycling magazine, I
have chosen to do this magazine becauseI can relate to this area the
most and this is most applicable to me. This magazine will highlight on
cycling tips and the to make the viewer have an idea of what cross-
country cycling is like. There will be examples of cross-country
destinations to go cycling in and examples of what suitable cross-country
bikes consistof and look like. There will be many images that I will be
including in my magazine, one of which is pictures of people cycling in
cross-countryvenues. On thefront cover there will be a picture of a
person going down a cross-country terrain and doing a jump. This will be
the subjectof focus and therefore will stand out from the content on the
rest of the frontcover. I will also be including an article upon how to get
the mostout of cross-countrycycling and a question and answer session
with a professionalbiker. Also, on the double page spread I will be using
images of differenttypes of bike parts and different tracks. This is to give
the reader more information about bikes and areas to bike. The
language used will be formal in the magazine. The language will be
formalbecause I will be talking to people who have a hobby in biking
and are a quite mature audience, thereforethe formallanguage will be
most applicable to them. Furthermore, I willbe using a large amount of
colour throughoutmy magazine, both on the frontcover and double
page spread. The magazine will be quite busy and vibrant, like
magazines such as Kerrang.
2. I will be using a formatsimilar
to this magazine, as there is a
lot of colour, making it vibrant
and the subjectof focus is the
biker, as such as my magazine
will have. This is the type of
magazine I will be aiming to
create, as this is directly
applicable to the audience of
biking fanatics, which is my
chosen audience of my
magazine. As there are
specialised parts shown on the
cover, I will be doing
something similar to this.
I will be taking pictures of the
cyclist in the country
environment, as hey goes
through a terrain. This image will be my subjectof focus and will be
displayed on the frontcover. I will also be taking pictures of bike parts
and various biking areas. These will be displayed on the front cover, but
mainly on the double page spread. The shotof the subjectof focus will
be taken externally, in the biking area, and the other images I will be
taking will be taken in the studio. There will be a combination of these
used. Moreover, the background of the frontcover will be the
environmentof where the picture of the cyclistwill be taken. The
subjectof the magazine will be the only person wearing a costume. The
subjectwill be wearing a biking outfit, also a helmet. They will not be
posing for the picture, as I want to capture them in their natural habitat/
environment. They will be doing a jump when I will take the shot. The
colour of the costumewill be complimented by the colour of the
magazine. The costumeof the person, which is the subject, will not be
wearing branded clouting. This is to avoid ethical and legal issues that
may ariseand permission will be needed to be able to use the costume.
The model will be a male cyclist and will not be under 16 years old,
therefore not needing parental consent. Furthermore, the model will
sign consent to be photographed, so their image can be used in my
magazine. Stereotypes will not be used I my magazine, and the only
purposefor the subject to be male is becauseof the fact that the
3. audience is mainly male cycling enthusiasts. This audience will be
teenagers and adults, becausethey have the mostinterest in bikes.
Shot List
1.)The main shot which will be situated on the cover of my
magazineof the biker will take about an hour to produceand
take. This is because I will be taking variousangles of this shot
and varioustypes. This is so that I get the right shot for the
frontcover. This is a portrait shot and will not need various
angles taken for the shot. This will be a shot of the biker on the
bike and will be a still shot, the setting will be in that of a
cycling environment.
2.)The second shot will be of the biking track; this will be situated
in doublepage spread. This will take 10 to 15 minutesto take
and produce. This will be a landscapeshot, as I will be getting
most of the background into the shot.
4. 3.)The third shot will be a landscapeshot of the handle bars and
stem of the bike and will be situated on the doublepage spread.
This will take about 10 to 15 minutesto produceand willbe
taken in the biking environment/setting, so it willbe an
exterior shot.
4.) The fourthshot will be of the bicycle. The will be a portrait
shot so most of the bike can be captured in the shot. This will
take about 20 to 30 minutesto produce, asthis mustbe
focused correctly, as this will be one of the main shots on the
doublepage spread.
5.)The fifth image will be the shot of the derailleur of the bike.
This will be showing the safety of biking. Furthermore, this will
be a landscape shot and will take about 10 to 15 minutesto
produceand take.
6.)The sixth shot will be of the modelthis will be taken in the
studio. This will take 10 to 15 minutesto produceand take the
shot.
7.)The seventhshot will be another stunt shot doneby the model.
This will be a landscapeshot with most of the background in
the shot included of the biking setting. This will take about 20
to 30 minutesto take and produce.
8.)The eight image which will be shot will be of the modelin the
studio. This will take about 20 to 30 minutesto produce, asthe
lighting and the angles mustbe right for this shot to look good.
9.) The ninthshot will be of the modeldoing a stunton the bike,
this will be an exterior shot taken in the biking environment.
This will take about 10 to 15 minutesto produceand take.
10.) The tenth shot will be of a breaking system. This will be
taken in a cycling environment. Thisis to show what a good
breaking system is compared to a bad one. This will take 10 to
15 minutesto take and produce.

6. Contingency Plan
As I will be taking much of the photosoutside rather than in the
studio, several contingencies could arise. One of which is, the
weather. This can be unpredictable, therefore could playabig impact
upon my shots taken. To avoid bad weather, I will postponethe day
of the shooting to a after time or the next day, where the weather
conditionswill be better.
Another contingency is that there the crew member willnot be able
to make it on the day of the shoot. This willcause a delay in my shoot.
I will avoid this contingency by preparingand by aware the crew
member some time before the day of the shoot. Another solution to
this contingency is that I will delay the shoot to the next day.
Another contingency that could arise is that the camera may
malfunction and willnot work. This willcause me not to be able to do
any shooting at all. I will avoid this contingency by taking a back up
camera on the day of the shoot. I will also check he camera before
hand the day of the shoot to check for any problems.

7. Recce
This pictureshows the studio that I will be usingto take the interior
picturesfor my magazine. I will be usingthe studio to take picturesof
the bike parts and other small pictures I will be includingin my
magazine. I will be usingthe studio to do this because there is good
lighting and this will help me capturea better image for my
magazine. It will also allow the images to stand out and will make
them good enoughquality so that I am able to alter and edit them.
8. Contributor Release Form

One thing that definitely is not very enjoyableabout your sportor
activity, is when you read about a fatal accident caused by that sport.
Whether you ridemountain bike, ski, or justrun, there is that
momentin your lifewhen deep insideyou ask yourself “How likely
am I to die while doing my sport?”You know that it never comes
without a risk, right? For some the death risk in activities is bigger
than for the others and for some this risk is also something that
makes it worth playingat it. And even though the chance of risk will
depend on the manner in which you do and carry your sport, this risk
will alwaysexist.
Something as simple as keeping your bike clean and well-keptwill
make you rise faster that it being all dirty and mucky. This is dueto
the fact that it makes the chain stick and notbeing able to move
through he gears properly and effectively. The same can be said
about the pedalskeepingthem clean will also allow the motion to be
moreeffective meaningless energy will be wasted in attempting to
pedaland not traveling at your fullpotential.
