1. TOEIC Speaking Test Tips
Part 1 (Questions 1-2)
Do:
Prepare by reading out loud.
Check for difficult pronunciation
Be careful with numbers
Be careful with similar sounds (b/v, l/r, …)
Pause at commas, and periods
Wait for the “beep”
Part 2 (Question 3)
Do:
Think of vocabulary words during preparation
Follow this logic
1. Overall picture (i.e. “This is a market street.”)
2. Give details starting from the middle of the picture
3. Move on to the outside part of the picture
Use linking words
If there is nothing else to say, add reasons and imagination
Use prepositions of place (next to, behind…)
Part 3 (Questions 4-6)
Do:
Stay on one topic (The questions are linked)
Answer in full sentences
Always give a reason at the end for each question (…because…)
Make your sentences SVO
2. Part 4 (Questions 7-9)
Do:
Don’t try and memorize all the information
When preparing, look at the location of the information (layout)
Look at the title for an idea of the questions/topic
Stay on one topic (The questions are linked)
Answerin full sentences
Always give a reason at the end for each question (…because…)
Make your sentences SVO
Part 5 (Question 10)
Do:
Listen for the following
1. Speaker’s name
2. Main problem
3. Other names
When answering, follow two steps
1. Repeat (recognize) the problem’s main point
2. Proposea solution
Address the complaining person directly
Be polite
Point out 2 or 3 points as solutions
Use names (of other people, if possible)
Give reasons for your solutions (…because…)
3. Part 6 (Question 11)
Do:
Speak using the 3 parts logic
1. Introduction
2. Main Body
3. Conclusion (summary)
Think of your opinion and 3 points when preparing
In your introduction, give the following
1. Your opinion (I agree/disagree with the statement “…”)
2. Give three points briefly (I have 3 points. 1,… 2,… 3,…)
In your main body, repeat the 3 points and give reasons (…because…)
Always link your points/reasons to the topic
In your conclusion, do the following
1. Restate your opinion
2. Restate your 3 main points
