The document provides instructions for students to narrate solutions to algebraic equations and expressions. It includes 8 questions for students to watch videos or written solutions, and then record their own narration of the steps. It also includes tutorials for using the SMART Recorder and Jing software to record narrations, and instructions for uploading recordings to YouTube.

Background:
Strong mathematics students are able to see more than
one way to solve a problem. Solving even the simplest of
equations can be done in various ways and most people
develop their own order in which they perform various
steps. For example, some will want to manipulate the
numbers so that the variable is on the left side right
from the beginning while others might like to avoid
negative numbers. These preferences will change the
look of the answer.
The goal of this lesson is to create a situation where
the student must follow and narrate someone else's
solution to a problem.

Instructions for Students
1. Each of the following pages contains a an algebraic
equation or expression which has been solved or
simplified. Some are videos and some are written directly
on the page.
2. Watch the video (or read the solution) as many times
as you need to in order to get an idea of the details of
what was done in each step of the solution.
3. Once you are ready, you will narrate (record your
voice) each step of the solution while the video runs. Be
as clear and concise as possible and feel free to record
as many times as possible until you are satisfied with the
result.
Note: The instructions may differ slightly for each question
so be sure to read carefully. In some cases you may also
write directly on the question and it will be recorded.

Question #4b
Example: 2(x+5)-3(x+1)=-3x+15
Use the SMART Recorder to record your audio and
video. Read the tutorial here.
Solve for x:
2(x+5)-3(x+1) = -3x+15
2x+10-3x-3 = -3x+15
-x+7=-3x+15
7=-2x+15
-8=-2x
4=2x
2=x
x=2
