2. What is Narrative Poetry?
NARRATIVE POETRY
– is similar to Lyric poetry. It uses rhymes,
and other poetic devices but it tells a
longer and largest series of events.
– this emphasis on progression of action,
and the settings of stories.
3. Examples of Narrative Poetry
1. BALLAD
– it is ballad or song if the poem narrates a story in short
stanzas.
TWO TYPES
* TRADITIONAL BALLADS
– Generally of unknown authorship since it has been passed
orally from one generation to the next.
* MODERN BALLADS
– imitate the traditional in terms of form and structure but it is
more literary.

2. EPIC
– is a long poem, typically one derived from ancient and oral
tradition.
– it narrates the deeds and adventure of legendary heroic
people such as gods, kings, knights, and other people in high
stature and may also feature the past history of nation.

2. Ramayana and Mahabharata- Hindu
3. Biag ni Lam-ang- Phil.Epic

3. MEDIEVAL ROMANCE
– tales that deals with heroes of chivalry like famous kings
and knights.
– it features Christian morals and courtly love.

1. Charlemagne- 'THE SONG OF ROLAND' written by
Chanson de Roland
2. King Arthur- written by Sir Thomas Malory
6. DRAMATIC POETRY
– a type of poetry that is generally
performed on stage which allows the
audience to unfold the story before them.
– it uses lights, music, and props to
achieves effects as changes the mood,
settings, etc.
7. COMEDY
– characterized by its humorous or satirical
tone and its depiction of amusing people or
events.
– a kind of drama in which the characters
ultimately triumph over adversity.

8. MORALITY PLAY
–is a medieval allegorical drama
which personifies abstract
qualities such as faith and mercy
as the main character presents a
lesson about good conduct.
9. MISTERY PLAY
–performed during the late middle
ages and the early renaissance
period.
–is a popular medieval play based
on Biblical stories or the lives of
saints.
10. SHADOW PLAY
– is a unique dramatic performance in
which shadows cast from puppets are
used to enact. Like from the epic
Ramayana.
– the performance is accompanied by
music, usually presented during
weddings, cremations and religious
festival
