1. I have done a rough edit for the music video that I am doing of the song
Superman by The Killers, and after watching it a few times I have come
up with a few improvements that I think will improve the overall
professionalism and style to the music video to look better and also be
more entertaining. I had always had an idea in my head to what I would
like it to look like, such as the pace (tempo), shots, in sync with the
audio, colour ect. I have attempted to show my ideas across with my first
edit; which I think for a first edit it turned out successfully, however I still
think there are a few things I can personally see that I would like to
improve and have another attempted to edit to improve and show my
ideas across in a more professional and clearer music video as a whole.
The first thing that is clearly different to mine in relation to other music
videos of this type of genre is the colour correction. Having some sort of
colour change or colour correction over the top of the music video seems
to be a common occurrence in this type of genre. For my first edit I have
used no colour correction what so ever; it is just the raw video quality,
which in my opinion does look dull and not eye catching what so ever.
Prior to editing my first edit I researched similar music videos and the
theme they all tended to go for is to turn the saturation really low (in
some cases completely off) what this does is it creates a sense of
unidentified; as it is not a mainstream genre, it works great as it shows
an idea of independence; that this type of genre is creating its own
ideology if a dark indie style. I want to follow these conventions in my
second edit, with turning the saturation to about 10%, so that it is not
completely colourless. Though I want to make my music video different to
the rest, and I have an idea that I have seen on one existing music video
that one or two colours are kept at 100% saturation (yet the rest is still at
10%). In the music video I want the bright colours to stand out, so
purple, red and yellow ect. This effect looks great and it a rare thing to
see in music videos, but it is not so much different from existing indie
music videos, so it will still follow the codes and conventions and will still
appeal to the target audience.
The other thing that I want to change after watching the first finished edit
is the sharpness of the simple cut and edit. Since it was a rough edit, I
didn’t go into perfect editing with syncing the shots to the audio (which I
a key feature I want to pull of successfully with my music video). The way
I will improve this is with going back the saved edit and zoom in more on
the editing software so it will be in more detail and I could sync the shots
and cuts to the audio more neater and clearer, doing this will guarantee
to produce a more professional and entertaining music video.
