The document discusses the design decisions made for a student magazine project. It was influenced by popular magazines such as Vibe, GQ, and Rolling Stone. Some key influences and decisions included:
- Having the magazine name 'Fresh' behind the artist on the cover, similar to Vibe magazine.
- Using a close-up shot for the cover photo, as done successfully by GQ magazine.
- For the contents page, not writing the word 'Contents' together and including an 'F' on the left side, inspired by Vibe magazine.
- For the double-page spread, including a photo on one page and the article text on the facing page to avoid boring young readers with too much
2. For the magazine cover we did a lot
of research into it, a lot of my
decisions that I have made for my
final piece have been influenced
from real magazines such as ‘Vibe’
magazine, ‘GQ’ magazine and
‘Rolling Stone’.
The first decision I have made for
my final piece was to have the
name of the magazine ‘Fresh’
behind the artist, and this was
influences by ‘Vibe magazine as
they have the same thing, and this
influenced us because we want the
readers to recognise the magazine
even if its full name is not on
display so it will make is look like a
powerful and a confident magazine.
The decision to have a close up
shot was made by looking at ‘GQ’
magazines as they have a lot of
covers where its mainly a close up
shot, so this influenced us because
they are a successful magazine and
they know what they are doing.

3. The first decision we made
for the contents page was to
have the word ‘Contents’ at
the top of the page but we
decided not to have the
whole word put together,
and this was influenced by
‘Vibe’ Magazine as we came
across a contents page from
their magazine and this
made us want to put it in
our magazine, we think this
will make our magazine
look unique and creative,
we were also influenced by
‘Vibe’ for the ‘F’ on the left
side of the page, the ‘F’ is
the first letter of our
magazine name which is
‘Fresh’ this will remind the
reader what magazine they
are reading.
I will add a picture of my artist
on the left side of the
magazine to remind the reader
who the main article will be
about. I will add a couple of
features to inform the reader
what they will be reading
about. And finally I will add an
authors note at the bottom
right of the magazine to thank
the reader for reading the
magazine and ti also inform
them about a couple things
that will be inside of the
magazine.
4. For the double spread
page we all came to a
decision to do one side
with a picture and
another page with the
article about the artist,
we cam to this
decision because of
our target audience
and because they are a
young target audience
we don’t want to bore
them with a lot of
writing, so we only had
one page with writing,
and the other page is a
picture of the artist
with an influential
quote that the artist
will say in the article
and this will make the
reader want to read it
and find out why the
quote was said
For the article page I will
have the first letter of the
artist’s name in the middle
of the page and this was
influenced by one of Jay
Z’s magazine articles and
it has a ‘J’ in the middle of
the article and this made
me interested and I
thought the readers would
find this interesting and it
would also remind them
who they are reading
about. I decided to start
the article with a quote to
make the reader want to
know what had being
going on with the artist. I
didn’t draw this in the
draft but I will have
another quite halfway
through the article to
make it visually
interesting.
