2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? For the photo, I had decided change how my model was standing. I also decided to change where I placed her on the magazine as so not to Plagiarise the Q magazine. I also decided that for my magazine the woman should be dressed as I felt it would be inappropriate if the model was shirtless. The masthead is one of the differences between the 2 magazines as the masthead of Q magazine is in the corner of the cover page while mine covers the width of the page. I have used the same sort of work with text on this part of the magazine cover, as though it is a list of all the different articles in the magazine. This part of the magazine is similar as I have made the name of the artist the largest size of text apart from the masthead Here I have used similar text to show to the audience what the ,ain article is about, I have also placed it under the name of the artist, but my text covers the width of the page so not to plagiarise the Q magazine. One of the similarities of my magazine and the Q magazine was where the code bar was. I decided that they should be in a similar place on the magazine cover, but mine is altered as the Q magazine’s code bar is along the side of the page and mine is on in the corner and not on it’s side. This piece of text at the bottom of the Q magazine is another of the differences between the 2 magazines as the Q magazine shows to the reader more about what is in the magazine to try to get the reader to read the magazine
3. How does your media product represent particular social groups? The images of both the large photo on kerrang and my photo are quite similar. Firstly as both of the photos have someone with their hands in their pockets. I had decided to use this sort of pose as I felt that it would give some emphasis on attitude in the magazine that had inspired me. As for the costumes, I think that my photo looks like it is more for teenagers as the clothes don’t look as neat as the one on the kerrang magazine, so I think that that connects to teenagers. Also the clothes on my photo don’t have matching colours which I believe also connects to teenagers.
4. What kind of media institution might distribute your magazine and why? I would think that Q magazine would distribute my magazine as both of the magazine covers look roughly the same as both have some of the same features on the cover such as a column of some of the features in the magazine and the name of who the main article is about is the biggest piece if text and in the middle of the page. Kerrang may be one of the magazines who would distribute my magazine as my magazine is aimed at the same target audience as Kerrang magazine which is young adults and teenagers who like rock music. But Kerrang may not distribute my magazine as my magazine is not as busy as Kerrang and the covers don’t look the same. I would think that NME would distribute my magazine as both of the magazines are aimed at the same target audience. Also both the magazines are the same as both are not as busy as Kerrang. Also the covers are roughly the same with the main article being the biggest text on the cover.
5. Who would be the audience for your media product? My target audience for my magazine would be teenagers and young adults who are into rock music such as muse or linkin park. Also the target audience would be teenagers who like skateboarding. The style of clothing that my target audience would wear would be from clothe makers such as ‘Vans’ and would wear shoes such as converse all-stars, the trousers that my target audience would wear would most likely be skinny black jeans, old tatty jeans or shorts. The target audience will most likely shop at places such a voodoo or haze.
6. How did you attract/address you target audience? Firstly, for the double page spread, I felt that I should have the title of the article the same style as the title on the cover so that the target audience would know that this is the main article of the magazine. I had decided to keep with the colour of the scheme of the magazine for the interview piece of the article, by having the darker shade of purple and black, firstly the target audience would be able to read the article and also be able to tell the difference between the questions and answers. Finally for the photo, I decided to have the model in colour and the background in black and white to show to the audience that she is the most important thing in the article. For the contents page of the magazine, I kept the text on the right hand side of the page simple and easy to read for the audience. I decided to have the ‘review’ box separated from the rest of the text to give the target audience the feeling that reviews happen in this magazine with every issue. I had kept the boxes the same style as the ‘Plucked’ title where there are 2 boxes of the same shape but the one on the back is in black while the one in front is a different colour from the colour scheme. This is to show that the boxes are part of the magazine. I have reversed this effect with the title ‘contents’ to show that this is the title of only this page. For the magazine cover, the way that the target audience would first be attracted by the colour of the magazine. I had decided on this colour scheme because it had given me the feeling that it would give the target audience a darker feel. For the lettering I had wanted the title of the main article to stand out the most , to do this I decided to have a darker, more rock music looking font., I felt that this would be one of the first pieces of text the target audience would see. Finally I had decided that the text on the left had side of the cover should be in different colours and fonts so that the cover page of my magazine would look more attractive.
7. Looking back at your preliminary task. What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? Preliminary Coursework piece One of the things that I can say I have certainly improved on is how neatly I can cut images out now as the hair on my preliminary model is un-neat whilst the hair on my coursework in more smooth and neat. I have learnt that the masthead of the magazine needs to be bigger than the masthead on my preliminary. I have shown I have learnt this by improving the masthead on the coursework piece. I feel I have improved since doing my preliminary by having my text more readable as I feel the green on the black is a little difficult to read. Since doing my coursework product, I have improved my coursework piece by using up all the space I can, this to me makes the magazine cover look more professional. I had also added more features in my coursework magazine cover to make that magazine look more interesting than my preliminary task. I have learnt that I need to have a code bar on my magazine cover as this makes it look more professional as I hadn’t done this on my preliminary task.
