We use Reported Speech to say what somebody said before.

Present simple Past simple ‘I live in Berlin.’ She said she lived in Berlin.
Present continuous Past

‘I’m watching TV.’ He said he was watching TV.
Present erfect Past perfect ‘I’ve seen the film.’ She said she had seen the film.
Past simple Past perfect ‘I missed the concert.’ He told me he had missed the
concert.
Will would ‘I’ll phone you soon.’ She promised she would phone
me soon.
