SITE ADDRESS: WOODLANDS BLVD, KAWANA FOREST
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
The Woodlands Blvd project consisted of 25 residential townhouses
attached to a 480sqm, 5-tenancy commercial precinct. The
development was started in 2008 & completed in 2012.
MRA Design was engaged to design the entire development and work
closely with the relevant consultants to gain all of the required council
approvals for construction.
I assisted Michael Rolton, Director of MRA throughout this whole
process. Liaising with town planers, civil, structural, hydraulic engineers,
landscape architects & Fire Consultants, managing all of the drawing
content for the DA, Operational Works and Building Certification.
As the project spaned a considerable amount of time, arising mainly
from strategic staging, certain elements of the project required
amending due to changes of the Australian Standards, namely AS
1428.1 Design for Access & Mobility. These changes lead to the
redesign of all trafficable surfaces in and around the Commercial
Tenancies.

SITE ADDRESS: CRN SUNRISE AVENUE & ELIZABETH ST, COOLUM BEACH
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
Sunrise & Elizabeth St actually started its life in 2009 as a set of 9
townhouses, containing a total of 5, 3 bedroom townhouses + 2, 2
bedroom townhouses. I, alongside MRA, secured a full DA Approval;
however, the project was shelved as the developer believed the
figures didn’t stack up.
Sunrise & Elizabeth Street now consists of two 3-storey towers, housing
18 residential units serviced by lift with provisions for 22 underground car
parks.
I have assisted Michael Rolton in the management of consultants
throughout the DA process. It has been entirely my job to manage the
documentation throughout this process. I contributed a considerable
amount of design input to the overall appearance and configuration
of the project.
The DA process was not completely straight forward as we proposed to
create a roofed Atrium between the two towers that council deemed
GFA. MRA alongside Adams & Sparkes Town Planners have successfully
argued that this Atrium can be considered landscaping & doesn’t in
fact contribute to the overall GFA
We have secured the DA approval and are in the process of obtaining
the Operational Works.

EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
The Broardwater Avenue project consists on 2 duplex units located one

very specific conditions placed on it due to new legislation
implemented after the 2012 floods. We have work through the DA
Application process with Town Planners, & Civil Engineers & have
obtained an approved DA.
I have assisted in managing council RFI’s during the DA process & have
contributed input into the design of the project. I completely managed
the drawing process.

SITE ADDRESS: STUDENT UNION COMPLEX – UQ ST LUCIA
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
This project was focused on the redevelopment of the Student Union
Complex at the University of Queensland, St Lucia campus.
The project was started in late 2012 and finished in mid 2014. During
that time Michael Rolton and myself shared the responsibility of
assisting the CEO of the Student Union, Mark Farago in obtaining all the
necessary approvals from the governing bodies within the campus for
the approval of the redevelopment of the complex.
The project consisted of 3 stages, strategically planed to reduce the
impact of everyday life in and around the complex. Initially the
Loading Dock that serviced the area was upgraded, followed by the
refurbishment of an unused arcade and finally the upgrade and
additions to the main entry to the existing Student Union Complex.
I was able to efficiently manage the time constraints & the
comprehensive approval process that the University requires, attending
meetings and presenting the proposal to all of the relevant factions. I
also assisted with contract administration throughout the construction
process working closely with the construction manager from Rohrig
Constructions on both the Loading Dock upgrade and refurbishment to
the Arcade.

SITE ADDRESS: LOT 2 NO 6 ALLAMBI RISE – LITTLE COVE NOOSA
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
Allambi Rise was a $2.5m multi level residential dwelling consisting of a
basement with 2 levels over, serviced by a commercial lift. The project
was started in 2008 and construction was completed in 2011.
I assisted Michael Rolton with the design process and obtaining the
relaxation from Noosa Shire Council. Managing the documentation
was entirely my responsibility.
Obtaining the relaxation took approx.1 year. There were quite a
number of issues we had to work through; this was due to the
complexity of the project along with the sensitive planning scheme for
this particular area.

SITE ADDRESS: LOT 15 BOLLON ROAD - CHARLEVILLE
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
Lot 15 Bollon Rd was a single storey residential property located in
central western Queensland.
I was responsible for this entire project, from the initial client meetings
through to complete documentation to obtain a Building Approval.
It was a unique project as the client wanted to produce mud bricks
and use them extensively throughout the dwelling for aesthetics and
assist in passive design in the way of thermal massing.

SITE ADDRESS: LOT 36 NO 46 NAIRANA REST – NOOSA HEADS
EMPLOYER: MRA DESIGN
The Nairana Rest project is nestled in amongst wooded streets behind
the iconic Noosa National Park. Being relatively sloppy with west facing
views to Noosa Sound, and the added client requirement that some
existing structure must remain made the project quite challenging.
These factors made it apparent that a relaxation would be required if
we were to achieve the desired client outcome.
The relaxation process took just over one year. Extensive
documentation was provided to council, including sun shading
diagrams and 3D montages depicting the proposed residence sitting
within the existing streetscape.
Michael Rolton and myself worked closely together on the project, I
assisted him with design input during the concept stage, and
redesigned the upper level on request of council during the relaxation
process. I managed all of the documentation, from concept, RFI’s &
through to the construction documentation. I liaised with the Building
Certifier & attended council meetings throughout the Relaxation
process. A BA has been obtained and construction has commenced.
