2. Q1. In what ways does
your media product use,
develop or challenge
forms and conventions of
real media products?
3. On the right is my Front cover and on the left is the Cover pages I
used for inspiration. I have been inspired by quite a few
conventions included in these pages..
4. Cover Image
My cover photo is a portrait
medium close shot which
takes up most of the page.
The subject is making eye
contact with the reader.
Even though she has
glasses on you can still see
that she is creating eye
contact. My cover image
also relates to the genre of
my magazine, which is
dream pop so it needs to
give of an almost vintage
vibe. It is also attractive or
the viewer. Finally, along
with the masthead, it’ll be
one of the first things the
reader will see
5. Masthea
d
The masthead I have created is placed across the top of the
magazine, making it big, noticeable and easy to see. I have
used a clear font with bright colors. I have made it so large as
it needs to be the first aspect of the cover that the viewer
should be able see. It is simple yet effective.
6. Cover lines
My cover lines were created in a
variety of reasonable size font
which is perfect for reading. They
are aligned down the left and
right hand sides and across the
bottom of the cover page. Just by
reading them you can tell what
genre it is by the artists featured
in the articles, they are quick
summaries of the stories inside.
They also include other artist
featured in the magazine.
7. Headlin
e
My headline was created using a large and noticeable font. It is the
name of the featured artist and a quote form her article. I have used a
completely different font and size for this as it needs to be easy and
clear to read. The headline should also say more about the genre. To
do this I used a fancier quote as I want the magazine to have a
vintage/posh/smart vibe to it other than a generic R&B vibe.
8. On the right in my contents page and on the left is the pages
I used for a bit of inspiration. As you can see, I have used a
few ideas from the left had side pages. But I’d say mine is
very unique
9. Photo shoot
for my
contents
page
For my article I took
some portrait and
landscape medium shot
which takes up most of
the page. I have used
props such as
sunglasses and a hat.
My subjects are making
direct contact in some of
the photographs apart
from a couple where I
have given the subject
the instruction to over
her should, I think this is
good as it shows
variation.
10. Numbers
and
columns:
For my page numbers I have made
them reasonably large so they are
more noticeable. They needs to be
clear so they can give the viewer
information about the articles, it also
tells you where to find them.
Also I have included columns to try and
organize the writing better so that the
viewer finds it easier to read.
11. Featured
article/layout
For my featured article I have
included an image, small
subheading and a short briefly
explaining the article. My purpose
for this is to give the viewer small
summaries so they know what
each page is about. This is very
useful in my opinion as it gives you
an insight on the magazine. I think
the layout is good as well as its not
boring but not overly busy.
Everything is even and not
overpowering. The pictures catch
your eye and it isn’t too much
writing. The writing is a good size,
it all fits together nicely.
12. Article
On the right are two articles I used for inspiration then on the left is
my finished article. As you I used these articles as a starting point for
mine. I like my article, I think it is very unique, different and fits in with
my theme very well.
13. Photographs
for my article
For my article I took a few
photographs of the same
person. These photographs
are landscape, medium close
up. I have again used props
for this photo-shoot (glasses
and a scarf). The subject is not
making eye contact with the
reader but I think this is good
as it does show variation. It’s
still eye catching and attractive
so it fits the conventions.
14. Headline and
Subtitle
This is my Headline and subheading. I have made these quite
large so that people can see what the article is about. These
conventions are very important when making an article as they
are what people see first so they need to be noticeable. I feel
like these designs I have created fit in well with my genre, I
think they are very successful.
15. Pull quote
and brand
name
At the top is my pull quote. I
did this because its intentions
are too give the customer an
idea of what the article is
about, it is to try and persuade
them to read it.
At the bottom is my brand
name ‘SELECTED’ I have put
this here so that people can
see which article belongs to
the magazine.
I feel like these two fit in well
with the genre of my
magazine, they are subtle and
not to flashy, a bit like the
