3. The world has become more and more dependent upon oil based products,
derived from petroleum.
These products are used to fuel automobiles, heat homes, produce energy,
and are used for machinery in various industries.
Some of the products that come from petroleum are gasoline, diesel, motor
oil, kerosene, jet oil, heating oil, asphalt, and plastics.
Oil is primarily stored and transported in large volumes via tankers because
populous countries use large quantities of oils, and it is more cost effective to
transport oil this way.
Introduction
4. Problems
1) Oil Spills Kill Birds:- The sea birds that swim and dive for their food are the
most likely to be covered in oil in the event of a spill. which can have serious
long-term effects.[3]
2) Oil Spills Kill Marine Mammals:- Oil spills frequently kill marine mammals
such as whales, dolphins, seals and sea otters.[3]
3) Oil Spills Kill Fish:- Oil spills often take a deadly toll on fish, shellfish and other
marine life, particularly if large numbers of fish eggs or larvae are exposed to
the oil.[3]
5. Problem Occur
4). Oil Spills Destroy Wildlife Habitat and Breeding Grounds:- The long-term
damage to various species, and to the habitat and nesting or breeding grounds.[3]
5). Oil Spills Damage Beaches, Marshlands and Fragile Aquatic Ecosystems:- Oil
spilled by damaged tankers, pipelines or offshore oil rigs coats everything it
touches and becomes an unwelcome but long-term part of every ecosystem it
enters.[3]
6. Methods
1) Oil Booms:-
The most common oil spill cleanup
methods involve trying to contain the spill
with floating booms that prevent the spill
from getting out of control.[4]
2) Oil Dispersants:-
The first method for doing this is adding
dispersal agents. These are chemicals that
allow the oil to chemically bond with water.
This prevents the slick from traveling over
the water and increases the surface area of
each oil molecule.[4]
7. Methods
4)Using Hot water and huge force:-
In this method, huge force of the hot
water is used to push the oil spilt back
into the water. Then with the help of the
skimming tools and equipment's, the oil
spill cleanup operation takes place[4]
3) Controlled
Burning:-
8. Working of Model
• To prevent this problem we have a method know as oil separator.
• There would be an aluminum sheet which would be connected to
the side of the boat
• There would be a propeller which will be running from battery
• This sheets would be rotating and there would be an extra
attachment to clean the oil from the sheets
9. Working of Model
• This oil would then be collected in the storage tank.
• This oil which is collected in the storage can be reused after
cleaning.
• The reason for using aluminum sheet is that water and sheet
react with oxygen and so that aluminum oxidation occur on sheet
so that oil can easily stuck on to the surface.
