17. Academic History
• Within my educational life, I have studied and enjoyed a wide range of subjects
throughout school and higher levels of education, These interests began at GCSE. In
2014 I sat my English literature GCSE exam a year early, as I always found English based
subjects my strong suit, The years following I studied a range subjects from humanities,
sciences and finally preferred subjects Media. After sitting my GCSE’S I then went on to
study A levels, these both taught me a more in-depth levels of knowledge of three
main subjects, Psychology, sociology and Media studies. I have come to the conclusion
that Media studies have inspired me the most, and raised an interest I hope to pursue
further at university . It is a truly contemporary subject which is relevant to my live. The
media saturates everything I do in the developed world in the 21st Century. Giving me
the tools to analyse and critique the media affords me the chance to see the ways in
which the media pervades their lives.
18. Current Study
• I am currently at York College in year two studying Media Production, I
have found this course a truly inspirational and motivating time in my
educational life so far. It has taken me from my A levels to another level of
understanding and an a appreciation of how important media both society
and the everyday working of the world.
• At the time of writing this statement one of the topics I am covering is
article writing, producing and editing a 12 page Fanzine, backed up with
research, planning and constant evaluation, this I feel has given me a
greater insight to real Media industries. I personally most enjoy the
research element of this topic as I can gather new information on both my
target audience and existing products out there, research helps me stretch
my mind and adds to my final production.
• Over the 2 years of the course I have learned a wide range of skills
contributing to my media skill set, such as using a professional camera and
studio, editing my images on Adobe software, creating short films with my
own audio, creating pixel art and creating my own game, the list goes on.
All of these different topics have enhanced my knowledge
19. Outside College
• Outside my studies I have a part time job Care Assistant, looking after the
venerable and disabled. I find this a very rewarding and satisfying use of my spare
time as I see the real appreciation from the people I go to see. Having a sense of
responsibility is very important in care work. Getting someone the right
medication at the right time, turning up to your client on time, sticking to the rota
that you've been assigned. All of these things require a level of responsibility and is
certainly something I could apply to my degree.
• I also assist in the family Lanscaping business in production and implementation of
marketing drives, and dealing with customers who ring the office. This again
develops my skill set with communication with all walks of life, as a very social
person this is something I enjoy very much.
• An strong interest of mine is keeping up with the news, Without the news, we
would only receive information from the activities happening in close quarters to
us. It is important to realize what is going on in any part of the world because,
believe it or not, this still affects us. Mass shootings, political wars, and more make
us feel something inside of us. News opens our eyes to the horrors in the world
but also the good that is happening in the world. Keeping up with the news makes
us informed on the world around us, making us more intelligent and also giving us
an opinion on certain issues
20. The Future
• My aim and desire is to take forward all the
knowledge of Media Production I have gained
from A levels and the vocational course. And I
now want to take another step forward by
studying this subject at a undergraduate level. I
feel that I have the experience and requisite skills
to develop my knowledge and interest further,
and eventually I can see myself and future
working in the Media industry, or perhaps
teaching others the skills I have developed and
the skills I intend to learn whilst at university.
Editor's Notes
Write a short paragraph about subjects you’ve already studied at school/college that have helped prepare you for your chosen courses at University- level 2 or GCSE level. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Talk about this course- Level 3 Creative Media Production. Reference how it has helped you prepare for your chosen courses at University. What did you make? What skills did you learn? Why did this make you want to progress on and study further etc.
Reference specific projects and software/hardware that you are familiar with.
What do you do outside college? Any hobbies, part time jobs, client work, volunteer work? How does this make you a better candidate for university study?
What do you want to do in the future (ensure it is related to the subjects you are applying for). How will university help you to achieve that?
