Conventions
1. Conventions of a magazine front

2. Front cover
Masthead – The title, and
essentially a branding of the
magazine.
Main image- One main model,
who is usually related to the
main article of the magazine.
Main cover line- Usually
promoting the main article. In
this case it is Ice Cube.
Selling line- Short line talking
about the main market point.
Side article- Usually on the
outside of the main image,
giving the title of the other
articles.
Dateline / Barcode.
Skyline- Short sentence
regarding the magazine.
3. Double page spread
Large image
featuring the
person from
the article,
usually
looking at the
reader to
entice them
into buying
the magazine.
This also
creates direct
address.
4. Pull
quote-
Usually a
quote
from
inside the
article
which is
used to
fill the
page,
and talk
about a
point
from
inside of
the
article.
5. Stand first-
Serves as
an
introduction
which
means it will
be before
the main
body text.
