2. WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
3. The target audience for my magazine:
- Teenager – Young Adult (16-23)
- Both male and female
- Interested in music
Throughout the process of production of my final production, I called
upon my focus group made up of a range of the target age and of both
genders, to hear their opinions on preferred style to which I could change
the layout and features of my magazine accordingly. This was helpful
because the number that made up the focus group could potentially be
seen as how the majority of young adults across a large scale would like
the magazine to be set out.

5. ATTRACTING MY AUDIENCE
• The idea was to broadcast my magazine to both male and females so as
to not restrict myself to a very niche target audience of just one specific
gender. I achieved this by using gender neutral colours for my colour
scheme such as grey, black, white and a splash of orange. This house
scheme also holds a more subtle and softer approach to the common
convention of a bright over exaggerating colours. I also used reception
theory to attract my target audience to create relations between the
artist features in the magazine and the audience. This creates personal
relationship[s and can lead on to potentially build a fan base.
6. ATTRACTING MY AUDIENCE: FRONT
COVER I made the cover image a medium-long shot
to expose more of the body language to the
audience. It did not follow the common
convention of a mid-shot or close-up,
making it stand out from other magazines.
The gender-neutral colours should attract to
both female and male, as well as the fact I
used a teenage model to attract those from
the same age group which was my target
audience.
I used a number of features including pull
quotes to create interpretive questions
which would entice the reader to find out
through reading the article.
7. ATTRACTING MY AUDIENCE;
CONTENTS PAGE
A technique used in my contents page to
further attract my target audience and to
engage the reader was to include social
media links in numerous pages associated
with my music magazine. This way, they
could send in suggestions and pass
comment as new issues are released, keeping
them engaged.
The column used in the contents page and
the features bar down the left-hand side
make for a distinction between articles and
also easy navigation for the reader because
of the large page numbers that stand out
clearly which would attract my target
8. ATTRACTING MY AUDIENCE; DOUBLE
PAGE SPREAD I challenged the common
convention of the having the
smaller name in the upper right
hand corner of the spread,
adopting a larger header which
uses the buzz words ‘New &
Upcoming’ to further attract the
audience to the large title which is
eye catching.
I altered the settings and
saturation od the picture on the
double spread to make it contrast
with the bright orange on the
page, catching the audiences
eyes.
