Researching Student Music Videos 1
There is a is variety of camera angles and distances used within this music video such as
close ups and long shots which allow the viewer to see the figure within the context. Medium
longshots are also used within the music video which helps the audience see each individual
performer in detail as each of the medium long shots are split into three sections on one
screen. There is not a big variety of camera angles used within this music video which puts
the audience within the perspective of the performers helping the viewers connect to the
video in a more personal way. Faster camera movements are used when the song
intensifies which emphasizes the impact it has on the audience.
The variety of costume used within the video signifies the genre as within stereotypical
aspects of R&B music videos they include a heavy amount of gold jewelery and tight
clothing, which is what this video conveys within their costume.
There is only one location used within the video but many costumes and different makeup
looks are used within this one location to convey variety even though there isn’t a big variety
of locations used.
Researching Student Music Videos 2
Within this music video a range of camera distances are used such as extreme close ups of
each band member and the instruments etc. There is also a long shot used to show the
band from the distance and the use of lighting and location emphasises the overview of the
band. There isn’t a range of angles used within this music video which helps the audience
feel more involved within the video and also see the performance in a more natural and
normal way. Each shot is accompanied and matched well with the lyrics within the song and
also with the use of the lighting and narrative etc it helps the music video flow better.
The use of costume and props works well with the music video as they fit in with the genre.
There has also been a big range of locations used within the music video which signifies the
genre as the band is set up is set up within each of these locations. The performance of the
music video in general is fun and relaxed with the main singer dancing in some of the shots.
By the end there is a group of people acting as the live audience whilst the band is
performing which entices the audience and makes them enjoy the song along with the
audience within the music video.
