Class: Borders and natural regions of Colombia Date: September 7th 2016.
Time: 20 minutes.
Principal aim: To comprehend and use the vocabulary related to the natural regions of Colombia, its
boarders, and also the words related to the cardinal points.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize the natural regions
of Colombia and its main boarders, as well as using the vocabulary learned during the lesson related
to the topic.
Materials:
- Big printed map of Colombia divided by regions and its boarders.
- Flashcards with the words to be learnt in the class (North, East, South, West, region names,
boarders)
- Markers
- Printed workshop

Stages of the lesson
Warm up/review: 3 minutes.
Orientation activity
Students will be divided into groups by choosing numbers from 1 to four, after that, they will be
asked to place their cellphones on the directions they are going to be provided with; for instance,
“All number four, place you cellphones on the East”, “all number three, put your cellphones pointing to
the North”, this with the purpose of activating their location skills.
Introduction: 4 minutes
The session will start with a brief conversation about what students know about the natural regions
of the country and the countries Colombia has boarders with; they will have the chance to share
their knowledge about the topic or the facts related to it.
Presentation: 4 minutes
The explanation of the topic concerned to the natural regions of Colombia, the main boarders of the
country and the cardinal points. The lesson will be focused on vocabulary and key words related to
the topic and it will be developed with the help of a big, colorful, printed map.
The presentation will show the natural regions division in Colombia and its main characteristics
(departments that constitute each region, food and climate, among others). Then, a short explanation
2. about the countries that have limits with Colombia will take place.
Practice: 5 minutes
During this moment of the class, the video “Geography now! (Colombia)” in which students will have
the chance to know more about Colombia´s natural regions, general geographic aspects and its
boarders will be played. After watching the video, students will talk about their opinions, conclusions
and perception about the video briefly, under teacher´s guidance.
Evaluation 4 minutes
For the final part of the class, students will have to form teams; then, they will pass to the front of
the board and try to locate by turns the names of the natural regions and boarders of Colombia in a
big blank map of the country.
Students will be assessed according to their performance during the whole class and the final
activity.

Astronomy class
Topic: The big bang. Date: October 20th
2016
Time: 20 miinutes.
Lesson objective: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to recognize and to use the
vocabulary related to the big bang theory.
Principal Aim: To learn new astronomy vocabulary and recognize the big bang theory facts.
Secondary aim: To recognize the vocabulary and most important facts about the Big Bang theory.
Materials:

Stages of the lesson
Warm up/review: 3 minutes
In a first moment, students will be playing a game called “Astronomy whip”, so they will gather in a
circle and the student who starts will have to say a word related to the astronomy vocabulary, and
the next one will have to say their classmate´s word and a new one and so forth, until they cannot
remember any more words related to the topic.
Introduction: 3 minutes
During this part, teacher will make a brief demonstration to illustrate the Big Bang explosion, by
using a confetti cannon. After it, teacher will ask students some questions to reflect about the topic,
e.g: What happened when the confetti cannon exploded, what were you able to see, do you think it
was similar to the big bang explosion?, what happened to all the confetti after the explosion?; with
the purpose of approaching the topic for the first time and gather some answers that turn useful
for the development of the class.
4. Presentation: 5 minutes
For the presentation part we will use a short presentation to explain and illustrate the main aspects
and facts of The Big Bang Theory. During and after the presentation part we will discuss what we
learned and any doubts about it.
Practice: 6 minutes
Students will be provided with the “Big bang” workshop, in which they will develop some exercises to
reinforce the topic and solve any possible questions that may emerge.
Evaluation 3 minutes
At the end of the class, teacher will conclude the topic with the students´help and she will provide
the activity´s feedback.

PEACE CATHEDRA
Topic: NOBEL PEACE PRIZES Date: November 11th 2016
Time: 15 minutes.
Lesson objective: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify important information
related to the Nobel Peace Prize and its winners during the last ten years.
Principal Aim: To comprehend the importance of the Nobel Peace Prize and its influence on the
world peace processes.
Secondary aim: To recognize some of the latest Nobel Peace Prize´ Winners and their contributions
to the world peace.

- “How to make an origami pigeon?” video

Stages of the lesson
Warm up/review: 3 minutes
“Paper airplane facts”
Students will be asked to write down on a piece of paper five facts about themselves. Then, they will
have to fold it into an airplane and then fly it across the room. Whoever it lands the nearest to, picks
up the airplane, reads the facts aloud and tries to guess who wrote them.
Introduction: 3 minutes
During this part of the lesson, a short video will be projected in class, the video is about “how to
make an origami pigeon?”, with the purpose of recreating a symbol that is linked with peace all around
the world.
6. Presentation: 5 minutes
During this part of the lesson, a presentation about the winners of Nobel Peace Prize during the last
ten years and their contributions will be displayed, in order to make an approach to the topic and its
importance.
Practice: 3 minutes
Students will be divided into groups to play “Nobel Peace Prize winners quiz”, to apply what they
learned during the class and to have fun with it. A person of each group will pass by turns to play, at
the end of the game the group with highest score will be the winner.
Evaluation 2 minutes
At the end of the class, we will conclude talking about the importance of the people awarded Nobel
Peace Prize and their contributions to make of this world a better place.
