JPS Health Care Network - April 2015- Current
Manager, IP Coding Services (Onsite, Remote and Global teams)
Direct reports- 11 IP/OP Coding team, 3 Auditors and 1 Outpatient Supervisor (30 ED/Clinic coders)
 High accountability and visibility position that reports directly to the Director of Coding
Operations
 Responsible for the strategic planning, implementation, optimization, and on-going
performance of HIMS coding functions
 Assesses the activities of the coding staff to ensure staff is knowledgeable of ICD and CPT
coding, coding guidelines including accurate code assignment, sequencing of diagnoses and
procedures, MS-DRG assignment, APRDRG assignment and APC assignments
 Global team management and work assignments on a daily basis
 Develop, revise, and maintain all coding policies and procedures and ensures the information
is distributed to and understood by coding staff
 Oversee and coordinate quarterly external coding audits with contracted vendor and ensures
that internal monitoring of coding quality is ongoing. Utilize information obtained from these
audits and monitoring to develop coding education programs
 Monitor the unbilled report and coding edit work queues, assign appropriate staff
assignments. Work with Compliance and Patient Financials to resolve issues that cannot be
corrected by the coding staff. Work closely with other members of the revenue cycle team to
address identified issues and other payer related issues
 Respond to Medicaid and other payer requests for code or DRG changes, Post pay DRG
reviews assist internal auditor in writing appeals and contacting physicians as
necessary. Ensure that all of these requests and subsequent outcomes are logged
 Monitor and track Quality and Productivity for coding staff to meet key performance
indicators
 Review and approve all time /expense reports for the coding team
 Contribute and participate in high level process improvement task force for charge capture
and Admission orders ( Lean Six Sigma Projects) as subject matter expert
 Participation and contribution to HACS and PSI task force ,coder education and work flow
process for HACS and PSI
 Diabetes Quality Steering Committee contributing member
 Lead coordinator for 3M optimization project
 Contributing member to the Denials Task force, , track and trend data for coder education as
well as analysis with IP auditor for trends within coding as reasons for denials
 Knowledge of Severity of illness and how it relates to denials post ICD 10
 Knowledge of PEPPER report
 Facilitator for DART ( DRG Analysis Review Task Force ) in collaboration with CDI for DRG
mismatches and continuing education between the teams and physicians
 Contract review and negotiations with offshore and local vendors for coding and auditing
purposes
 Participation and key decision maker for hiring all coding and auditing talent
 Participation in Press Gainey Employee engagement survey results planning and initiatives
