This document discusses vision, including what it is, its characteristics, significance, and effective communication. Vision is defined as a perception of the future, foresight to predict events, and goal setting with intrinsic value placed on long-term results. A vision statement concisely communicates an individual or organization's vision. Effective visions are concise, clear, future-oriented, stable, challenging, and inspiring. Having a vision provides perspective, combats aimlessness, nurtures emotional control, provides motivation, and promotes teamwork. For a vision to be impactful, it must be shared excitedly and enthusiastically with a broader audience through narrative and human interest, while incorporating feedback from important stakeholders.

 Optical Phenomenon – My ophthalmologist colleagues can shed better
light on it. 
 A perception of future: To have a clear idea of where a certain discourse is
headed
 Foresight: The ability to perceive and predict future events
 Goal Setting: A lifestyle which assigns intrinsic value to an anticipated
result in the long-term and then strive to achieve it
 Vision Statement: A concise thesis of one’s individual or organizational
vision in order to communicate it to others

 Concise: able to be easily remembered and repeated
 Clear: defines a prime goal
 Future-oriented: describes where one is going rather than the
current state
 Stable: offers a long-term perspective and is unlikely to be
impacted casual factors
 Challenging: not something that can be easily met and discarded
 Inspiring: motivates employees and is something that employees
view as desirable

4. Significance of Vision
 Provides Perspective: Where we are as an individual or
organization and where we are heading
 Combats aimlessness: Gives one a sense of direction and
purpose in life
 Nurtures emotional control: Today’s pain is tomorrow’s gain
 Provides Motivation: Helps in going through the rough phases
of life
 Promotes Teamwork : Disparate people with similar vision
tend to cooperate and work together

5. Effective Communication of Vision
 In order to be effective and impactful, a vision must be shared
with a broader audience
 Vision should be communicated with excitement and
enthusiasm
 It should have a narrative based around it, a story of human
interest
 The communicator must be able to walk the talk
 Feedback must be listened and properly incorporated
 Important stakeholders must be prioritized and given
preference
