Leadership: Establishing Relationships and Influencing ChangeLeadership: Establishing
Relationships and Influencing ChangeThe emphasis this week is on developing fundamental
interpersonal skills that will prepare you for professional practice as a leader and change
agent. How will you influence change in your professional specialty area as a leader?
Identify two of your strengths that will help you lead effectively. Identify two areas where
you can improve your ability to lead and influence change. What are the two most
important strategies you plan to implement as leadership professional development
tools?Anyone can claim the title of leader, but not everyone is capable of leading and
effecting change. A leader must be self-aware in order to be effective.Leadership is the
process of establishing relationships and influencing change.capable of self-management,
being sensitive to the feelings of others, having a vision, and being open to communication
and changes As a FNP, I will influence change by remaining emotionally present and
maintaining open lines of communication in order to foster positive relationships and
working environments. One of the most common grievances raised by nursing staff is a lack
of communication from their leaders. We frequently complain that our leaders are out of
touch with reality or refuse to show respect or understanding. Patients have similar
complaints about their health. My intention is to set a good example. In my personal and
professional life, I always seek to find common ground and be mindful of the feelings of
others.ORObtaining an advanced practice nursing degree, specifically as a Family Nurse
Practitioner, entails leadership expectations and responsibilities. Through my nursing
motivations and passions, I hope to inspire others through my leadership abilities.
Reflecting on my own leadership characteristics, I hope to bring a transformational
leadership quality to my future role as a nurse practitioner in order to influence my
coworkers. With a shared vision, the transformational leader inspires and motivates others
to work above and beyond the basic expectations (Scully, 2015). From my own motivations,
I will share with others a vision that will foster a positive workplace for us healthcare
professionals and our patients.
