Conventions
GQ magazines are most commonly shot in studio in a medium shot with a monochromatic
background with one or two accent colours in the typography.
The typography will be in an uppercase sans serif font with a selection of coverlines which
cover a variety of content.
The main focus of the front covers of GQ will be an important looking man that is: in a high
value/expensive suit or outfit; well groomed and trimmed.
Masthead is placed behind the cover star, showing brand confidence.
Audience Appeal
GQ appeals to two main audiences people that can relate to the content in GQ and
people that aspire to live the lifestyle presented in GQ
Content
Articles in GQ will generally focus on either hard news or pieces for ABC1 demographic
like new expensive items i.e. watches or clothing.
Adverts that are featured are generally meant for upper-class and generally feature
grooming material i.e. cologne or razers

Content
Cover stars are dressed in figure revealing dresses which are in conventionally
femininely colours. They are mostly shot on a location and not in a studio
Articles within Vogue are focused on high quality women's fashion and accessories
Adverts for vogue would be similar to GQ’s adverts but for women
Conventions
Vogue follows conventions greatly. The colour scheme contains traditionally
feminine colours pinks ,purples, etc.
Depending on who the cover star is or if they’re promoting the outfit the cover will
be shot in either medium shot or medium longshot
The typography is uppercase sans serif making it appear mature and sophisticated
Audience appeal
Appeals to those that aspirer and can relate to the higher value lifestyle presented
by Vogue magazine.
7. Existing Product
Content
Cover stars photos are mostly taken/edited from movie posters or are done in a studio
setting. Articles are mainly interviews with actors or directors on recent or upcoming films.
Cover stars are shot in a variety of close ups, medium long shots and long shots depending on
the type of film presented.
The adverts within the magazine would be for upcoming films and products that normally roll
before cinema screenings like cars, insurance etc.
Conventions
Colour schemes will generally vary in order to reflect the colour scheme of the film that is
presented on the cover.
The typography of the text is upper case and sans serif giving it a more modern feel.
The masthead is presented behind the main focus of the magazine, showing brand confidence
Audience Appeal
The main audience appeal is that the audience want to stay informed with the film industry.
Another audience is the die hard fans of the series that want a more in-depth look at the
media product.

• The researched products all have the common components that would make up a magazine
including masthead, cover stars cover lines etc.
• The research products also have their cover stars placed in front of the masthead connoting
the brand confidence.
• A majority of the products are attempting to sell their audience something both physical
