2. Shoes
High heels/wedges are most common types of shoes in the Pop genre many artist such
as Katy Perry, Beyonce, Shakira etc. wear high heels in their music videos. They are a
very iconic image for the artist because it will connote glamour and fashion for women.
High heels also connotes the maturity of women for example it is most suited for
women who are into fashion. The artists will try to advertise the new type of fashion in
the contemporary world through the types of clothes they wear and shoes are vital in
this advertising. Shoes can also be used for props as they can be lying down on the floor
of the girls bedroom which will emphasise that the room belongs to a girl.
3. Make up and hair
Make up and hair accessories is an essential type of prop that is needed for the pop genre.
This is because we are trying to sell our artists image. Make up and hair influences
heavily on young girls which is why by using make up it will make our female audience
feel a connection between them and the artist. Make up is used to sexualise the female
artist and spread their look across their fan base, these props will emphasise beauty of the
artist.
4. Costume- onesies
During the bedroom scene we want the girls to be wearing colourful onesies as their
pajamas. We felt the colourful onesies (pajamas) will represent our artist as fun and young. It
will also allow us to connect with our younger audience as the onesies (pajamas) will portray
our artist’s ‘inner child’. The genre Pop has representations of having fun and enjoyment in
their music videos. The music is always up beat and happy. This is why we are choosing
bright colours for costume and we want to portray our artist as bubbly because it will fit the
pop genre. In Taylor Swift’s music video on the right she is wearing a colourful pajama set
with animal prints which again further represents the pop genre as she is shown to be quirky
and fun and again, that is the representation we are trying to achieve with our artist.
5. Onesies (pajamas) we chose
We chose these colourful onesies for the girls to
wear I our music video because again it will portray
them as bubbly and fit with the fun atmosphere. The
bright colours fit perfectly with the genre and it will
portray our message of enjoyment clearly.
6. Dresses
As the purpose of our music video is to mainly sell our artist image we want to portray her
similarly as to how other pop singers are portrayed. They are portrayed as very fashionable
and stylish. This is why when our artist has her own scene we want to dress her in very girly
dresses that are knee length as we feel this will display as girly and fashionable. During the
pop music videos the artists wear revealing clothes, sexualizing them as that is part of their
star construction. Therefore we felt it would be appropriate for us to imitate those same
ideas.
7. Dress we chose
We chose this to be the dress our artist wears because we felt
this fit with the genre. Ariana Grande wears a similar dress to
this in her music video and she is from the same genre of
pop. We like this dress because it is short and will portray her
as fashionable which is the image we are hoping for. The
sparkles on the dress will emphasize her girly-ness and fit
with the them of having fun.
