4. Our song and why?
Our song is Lissie – Everywhere I go, which is a country genre song which we are
hoping to make into a indie genre by the way we present it.
After research into the indie genre we found that a serious topic normally creates a
better video as you can have a message within the video for example easy way out
Gotye which has a clear message.
Also its easier to make the video original as they’re a lot more happy quirky indie
genre videos out there and they tend to get repetitive like Regina Spektor.
Also the song is not well known to most people so therefor people will not associate
the video with original one.
5. Our song and why ?
The fact we also picked a female artist is a crucial part in the selection of our
song, we found that a lot of the indie genre is full of male bands.
Also the actress we had in mind Cerys was female so obviously we had to find
a female artist for the song.
The thing that attracted us to Lissie and the song was the lyrics and themes the
song would have with the chorus saying ‘danger will follow’ which could be
interpreted in many ways.
Also Lissie was clear when she sang which other indie weren’t at times which
means it will be easier to lip synch the lyrics in the video.
7. Who is our artist and what image do we
want to create for them?
Our artist is Cerys George a young female indie artist who is unknown and
hence why we wanted a unknown song.
We want the video to get attention for the singer which is why we wanted to
have an original idea so she can stick out from the crowd
The image we want to create is someone who is relatable and likable to the
audience as we want them to feel they can connect with her.
We also want it to be clear she is from the indie genre which we will do from
our use of mise-en-scene
We wanted to create an imagine similar to that of Nina Nesbit and Regina
Spektor but with her own style
8. We will create this image in the video by?
The video will show her fun loving side with friends during the non chorus moments,
these will be the moments where the audience are most likely to relate.
Also we will have serious moments within the song to show the contrast and help the
audience feel sympathy towards her and her situation.
We will also make the Indie image clear by what she's wearing which should be
relatable to girls of the indie genre.
We will also use certain camera shots such as close ups to show that she is the main
singer and help the audience connect with her.
Finally we will use the digi pack and poster to help portray her indie image via the
clothes she wears and the use of a filter.
9. How does your song appeal to
target audience and how is it
different/ similar?
10. How does it appeal ?
Our target audience is teenagers who listen to the indie genre. Our artist Cerys
will appeal to them since the chosen song is both mellow, yet upbeat which is
like most indie songs.
Cerys will be dressed in relatively ‘indie’ clothing and our music video will have
similar conventions to other indie music videos. It will be quite laid back for the
most part, but we have added a danger element in order to add an extra edge to
our artist.
We want the audience to be intrigued and and interested, so hopefully this
danger element will appeal to our target audience and keep them watching until
the end.
12. Style, meaning and influences
We are making a narrative and performance music video. It will follow our artist Cerys in various
locations, walking around and admiring the sights.
However, she has an ex-lover who is stalking her, this narrative relates to the chorus of our chosen song
‘Danger will follow me, Everywhere I Go’ – this is what we call amplification.
Amplification: the narrative whilst inspired by the song, adds a narrative element to complement the
themes/subject matter of the song
Our music video whilst mainly coming from our own ideas, has been influenced by a multitude of
industry produced music videos. We looked at indie bands for example The Kooks ‘She Moves In Her
Own Way’ video is largely montage, it features the band walking around and is very natural. We want to
incorporate things like this into our video – have Cerys (our artist) walking around as if everything is
normal. But then add in the stalker element to makes it a little different.
14. Mise-en-scene
Our artist will be wearing clothing to represent her as being ‘indie’ for example
vintage/hipster clothing, baggy clothes, denim jeans/jacket. We were
influenced by the clothing of the band Haim and what wore in their music
video ‘Falling’.
The setting will be in different alternative and funky areas in London such as
Camden, Carnaby Street, Brick lane and Notting Hill. This was influenced by
Nina Nesbit's video ‘Stay out’ that was filmed in different areas within a city.
We are choosing this sort of Mise-en-scene to portray our artist as alternative
and indie, similar to the hipster generation of todays youth.
15. Camera
We will use a wide range of different shots throughout filming to ensure we
portray the story from a wide number of different angles and viewpoints. We
will gather all these shots to create a montage throughout the video
For the main chorus we will continuously use a tracking shot to ensure there is
some sort of consistency within the chorus and also making it different from
the other verses in the song. This is similar to the Neighbourhoods video
‘Sweater weather’ as they used a similar shot each time the chorus of the song
was played.
16. Editing
We would like to use a filter throughout our music video as when conducting
our real media research, most of the indie videos we had looked at had used a
filter of some sort.
We also want to edit our video in time to the beats in the music. This is similar
to what the Neighbourhood did in their video of ‘Sweater Weather’ that we
previously researched.
We also want to edit the video in a way that the storyline will become more and
more obvious as the song goes on e.g. show more clips of the stalker late on in
the video.
18. Digipack
We have chosen to create a digipack for the first of our ancillary tasks.
For our digipack we will use images of our artist ‘Cerys’ in different locations.
These images will also be filtered to create some link between the album and
the music video
One idea we also had was to use polaroid images on the digipack as this can be
considered vintage so could help with portraying the indie genre.
The digipack must also be consistent within itself for example using the same
fonts and themes throughout.
19. Poster
We have also chose to do a poster advertising our singer Cerys and her new
single that is coming out
This poster will feature similar themes, colours and images to what we used on
the video and the digipack therefore creating synergy between products.
One example of real media research that we really liked was Regina Spector as
she use the same images and colour themes throughout all of her products
which made them easily recognisable which is important especially with a new
artist.
21. Unique selling point
The Music, being indie is unique in sound compared to the basic love song.
This meant we could do more with the video and our ideas.
The Music is a mixture of light heartedness and melancholy, so we could do a
unique video of incorporating the two together.
We will use happy and dark themes in our video and it will fit. This is Unique to
other girl indie artists’ music videos, for example Regina Spector and Nina
Nesbitt
23. Our artists appeal
Our audience listens to indie music and watch indie music videos.
Our actor Cerys has a similar fashion and music taste to that of the audience
we are trying to reach.
As she is more aware of the indie genre it will look more natural on film
because she knows the conventions of an indie music video.
Because of this our audience will find her believable and relatable .
