Measures of Central Tendency: Mean, Median and Mode
Media suhena
1. Texts and Wordings in
a film
Film makers have to use specific terms and texts in order to
make a movie, the film industry uses words that are media
related such as ‘casting, props’ instead of using ‘items and
characters’ to make it seem professional. Text of the movie
depends on the theme of the film, and the text (credits) has to
be big enough to see clearly and readable.
2. Examples of words used in
Films that we see on screen.
Plot - refers to all aspects of the narrative
Set - This term refers to the actual construction in which the
actors are filmed. Sets are usually built for a film, as opposed
to shooting on location, where a scene is shot in the actual
place in which it occurs in the film. If a film crew shot on
location in Venice, Italy, for instance, they might actually be
shooting the scene in gondolas on the canals.
Prop - another term borrowed from theatre. A prop is generally
any object on a set, though clearly the objects that characters
will touch become more important. A trumpet, for instance,
might be part of the backdrop in a music store scene, but if a
character is going to play the trumpet, the prop takes on more
importance.
3. costumes - what the characters are wearing. Even if a character is wearing
contemporary clothing (in some cases, the actors’ own clothing), that
clothing is still considered a costume.
Producer is the term used for the person who has created the film.
Director is the person who visualizes the movie based on the script, creates
shots, suggests how the actors should portray their characters, and helps
to edit the final cut. In other terms, the person in charge of putting
converting a script into a movie.
Association is the word used to describe groups/organisation who are joined
in the film for a purpose.

music credits
& dancers
4. Credits in a movies, showing the
casting of Iron Man
Here is an example of an
association with credits and
producers mentioned in the film
5. Texts used means of presenting information
in Films
Text is the most widely used and flexible
on screen and conveying ideas. The designer should not necessarily try to
replace textual elements with pictures or sound, but should consider how
to present text in an acceptable way and supplementing it with other
media. Users will also be put off by the display of large amounts of text
and will find it hard to scan. To present credits the information should be
presented concisely under clear separate headings such as casting, props,
costume etc. Subtitles are also a form of text which help the audience
understand the dialogue and it’s useful for those that have hearing
difficulties.
These are examples of text titles.
Although the background of these
titles are colourful, the text is bold
and stands out, allowing the
audience to know what the titles of
the movie is. The font and colour of
the text reflects on what the theme
of the movies is, e.g. horror, action,
romance etc.
6. Subtitles in films- these are used to
make it easier to engage with the
audience
Here, text has been
used to presents the
castings of a movie. The
text is bold and big
enough for the audience
to see and are written in
white which is reflected
on the black
background.
