The document discusses props needed for a trailer about a woman who murders her boyfriend. Props included are:
- A realistic BB gun or kitchen knife to use as a murder weapon.
- Fake blood and Kool-Aid to create realistic blood scenes.
- Real handcuffs from a police officer family member to add authenticity.
- Colored light bulbs to set an eerie tone and represent police lights.
- A picture frame to show the relationship falling apart when it breaks.
1. DRAFTING & PLANNING- PROP IDEAS
I'm going to need various of props within my trailer I am going to label the essential props that are
definitely going to be featured in my trailer. Some of my props I can create myself while others I will need to
purchase.
REALISTIC BB GUN:
I want to purchase a realistic BB gun as the plot is that my main protagonist is going to murders her boyfriend
and a form of weaponry needs to be included. As I want my trailer to be professional the gun would have to
look as realistic as possible. I am planning to take a couple of shots featuring the gun. I see ranges in prices
some from £6- £30 on different websites from Ebay to Amazon and official Company BB gun websites.
However, a cheaper option if the gun would go over my budget would be a kitchen knife. This will be equally
as effective and it will also do the job. The only different is with the gun it causes more suspense and I will
have more options to play around with sound effects. Or to create suspense in the trailer shots where she's
pointing the gun at him. Depending on how much everything like my location and all the other props will
determine which one I will get.
2. DRAFTING & PLANNING- PROP IDEAS
FAKE BLOOD & KOOLAID:
Once again as violence and murder is an integral role within my plot conventions such as blood are going to be featured quite a lot. I need to
use fake blood I am purchasing and creating this. Fake blood is ranging online as cheap as 43p to £12.99. I have decided to both purchase fake
blood and also decide to make my own because the fake blood is this realistic, professional consistency it has the right colour an texture to
realistically represent blood as the blood is planning to go on the floor and the wall etc. However, I will need to purchase KOOLAID as there is
going to be a blood scene bath and Kool-Aid is an really red concentrated powdered drink I used in in my preliminary and one packet made
the water vibrant read and it represented someone bleeding out in the bath the packet is as cheap as £1. This will effectively create a realistic
blood bath.
HANDCUFFS:
I am using handcuffs to represent a crime and show the severity of
of the crime. The handcuff will cause suspense as it will leave the audience
curious as to who's being arrested. As I want my trailer to be realistic I am using real handcuffs
I know a police officer due to family links and I have emailed him if he can feature and if I can use
some of his equipment in the trailer. He has to ask a higher management and they confirm whether
he can do this but handcuffs are integral and I'm able to use actual handcuffs so my prop is of high
quality which will make my trailer appear more professional.
3. DRAFTING & PLANNING- PROP IDEAS
COLOURED LIGHT BULBS
The colour red has a lot of representations such as danger, sexiness, romance it is even associated with death and blood. Because I am
creating a romantic thriller I want my trailer to appear eerie so it creates suspense so I have decided to purchase coloured lights. It can give
me various of effects it can appear eerie. Or even replicate police lights. They are relatively cheap only £4 for separate coloured bulbs and
£7.90 for different coloured flashing bulbs. This is not too expensive and the effect it will have on my trailer makes it worthwhile.
PICTURE FRAME:
A picture frame is another of the prop I am going to use. This is ideally to show a happy picture of
the couple which is going to fall and break to represent the downfall of their relationship. Picture
frames are extremely cheap so the price will not be an issue or above my budget. I have a couple of
picture frames at home but I want to use one that is glass so I can show the glass breaking.
IPHONE:
I’m using an IPhone for the prop I don’t have to purchase this as both me and my actors already have them. The iPhone is essential as
there are scenes where the phone has to be featured. Like the unknown call. The text message on the phone. The dialling of 911. This
prop will make my film not look as low budget as its an expensive equipment.
4. DRAFTING & PLANNING- PROP IDEAS
ROSES/ ROSE PETALS:
Roses are essential for my trailer. The prices of roses can vary a dozen will probably be like £10+. I will buy these when I'm going to film
the scene because as roses are flowers they tend to die quickly and I want to be able to shoot them while they are vibrant and alive. I
need in general about 2-3 rose I need a singular rose so I can burn. Roses has many connotations associated with love and romance and
burning a rose symbolises the end of a love. I then need another rose for rose petals to put in a bath.
WINE GLASSES & BOTTLE:
Another prop is wine glasses and bottles like the rose it has connotations of romance and love. This fine dining ideology.
I have The one glass will be a nice shot and make my trailer appear more sophisticate and it’s a form of opulence.
LAPTOP WITH A WEBCAM:
Another prop I need is a laptop with a webcam this is important because it needs to show how the girlfriend is secretly still watching her
ex which is a form of possession.
