We looked at experimental videos so that we could see what conventions within this genre
and how they are used and also how to incorporate these conventions in our piece. We then
established which roles we would take on within our groups:
Arbnor - Director of Photography
Kairen - Editing, Director
Me - Costume & Make up, Producer, Location Scout
The roles were researched so that we had a better understanding of what we need to do
within our group to make our group productive. My role consists of getting the props
needed for the video, whatever make up that would be needed I would have to get as well
and also the costumes and accessories.
3. Costume and Make up

character.

• Costume design is the fabrication of apparel for the overall appearance of a character or performer. This usually
involves researching, designing and building the actual items from conception.

4. The props we need are:
Plastic Flowers
Plastic Flowers: The plastic flowers are going to be white held by
RRH to signify innocence, the flowers being plastic will signify that
her image of innocence is a façade. RRH places the flowers on her
grandmother's grave to commemorate her death and also to
signify that riding hood’s link to innocence is non existent.
Wooden Basket
Wooden Basket: The wooden Basket is important for the audience
to recognise the character of RRH as she is known to be holding a
basket with her grandma's treats. The basket is going to carry a
weapon which will be revealed later on in the narrative.
Picnic Cloth
Picnic Blanket: The picnic blanket is supposed to suggest that there is
gifts in the basket for grandma, another innocent notion. the audience
is used to the tale being told as there is food for sick grandma in the
basket however there will be a twist as treats will not be in the basket.
Red Flares
Red Flare: The Red Flare will be held by RRH as she is walking through
the forest to add an aesthetically pleasing element but also to symbolise
Red Riding hood’s burning desire to avenge her grandmother. This will
be similar to the way the red flare is used in the music video King Krule –
The noose of Jah City.
5. Red Hood
Red Hood: RRH will be wearing this iconic piece of clothing so that
the audience recognises the character. This item of clothing will also
be utilised so that the visuals will be more interesting. One of the
shots we will be using is an over the shoulder shot and the hood will
hide some of her identity so that there will be an added element of
Wolf Mask mystery.
Wolf Mask: The mask signifies the wolf and symbolises
everything that is the opposite of innocent. The mask will be
worn by Arbnor and will signify the animalistic and primal
nature of a man.
Gun
Gun: RRH will be using the gun to kill the wolf as she is
seeking revenge on the wolf. The gun also symbolises
evil and death, indifferent to innocence.
Belt of bullets
Belt of Bullets: RRH will have the belt of bullets in her basket this
will be revealed when she confronts the wolf. The belt of bullets will
be some kind of proof to the absence of her innocence and that she
is prepared to do the most sinful deed of all, to kill. Lighter: The
lighter will be used to light the 'Marijuana'. The lighter is a
component to contradicting the legacy of RRH's innocence.
6. Tabacco
Consumables ('Tabacco'): This will be used by RRH, she will smoke after she
kills the wolf further denouncing the fairytale's idealism of innocence.
Suit with Red Tie
Suit with Red Tie: The wolf will wear the suit with the red tie, not
something a wolf would typically wear, to show that the Wolf has 'Human
feelings' and also to make the audience think about this wolf’s nature as
suits represent business and this could suggest that the wolf sees killing as
a business and nothing person because killing is in his nature. Also the red
tie connotes danger which is fitting for the character of the wolf.
