6. PHYSICAL EDUCATION
▪ Physical education came from the latin
word “physica”, meaning physics and
“education”, meaning the training of the
bodily organs and power with a view to the
promotion of hearts and vigor.
▪ Physical education is an integral part of
general education which aim to develop the
physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and
the mental traits of man through the
physical activities.
7. PHYSICAL EDUCATION
▪ Its goal is to improve and maintain students'
current health and set them on a path to
maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their
lives.
▪ Also known as gym class, is a class taught in
kindergarten through 12th grade that involves
student participation in physical activity.
▪ The goal of physical education classes is to
introduce students to the basic elements of
exercise that will lead to a healthy lifestyle.
▪ Students can get exercise and increase their
psychomotor abilities by playing a variety of
traditional sports such as basketball and
soccer, and by participating in exercise
activities such as lifting weights and aerobics.
8. LEGAL BASES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
• In accordance with the pertinent provisions of republic act (RA)
no. 7722. Otherwise known as the “higher education act of 1994”
in pursuance of an outcome based quality assurance system as
advance under CMO046s 2012 and virtue of commission.
• In Article XIV. Section 19 of the Philippine constitution which
mandates that the state shall promote physical education and
encourage sports program, league competitions, to foster self-
discipline, team work, and excellence for the development of a
healthy and alert citizenry.

10. MAIN OBJECTIVE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
▪ Develop motor abilities like strength, speed, endurance, coordination, flexibility, agility and
balance, as they are important aspects for good performance in different games and sports.

12. ▪ According to David (2010), Physical education is the basis
to the best development of Child and youth. It should be
a process of experience, progressing from the simple
type, for small youngsters to none advance movement.
▪ Physical activity can be defined as any movement of the
body that requires energy expenditure. This includes any
motion you do through the day excluding sitting still or
lying down. For example, walking to class, taking the
stairs, mowing the lawn, and even cleaning your house
can be considered physical activity.
▪ In other words, Physical activity is a bodily movement of
any type, while physical education programs (phys ed, or
PE) use physical activity to teach children how to
establish and sustain an active lifestyle. Both are
important for obesity prevention and a student’s healthy
development.
