2. What is a Fern? Ferns are plants that do not produce seeds, fruits nor flowers, but have xylem and phloem. Their method of reproduction is by spores. These plants are monilophytes (referring to ferns). It is the second biggest group of vascular plants (surpassed only by angiosperms).
3. What is a Sporangia? Sporangia is an area that contains many spores. There are two types of sporangium, heterosporous and homosporous. Ferns are homosporous, meaning they only produce one type of spore. It all starts as a diploid and then turns haploid.
6. Microscopy A stereomicroscope was used. Pictures where taken at various powers, from very low power to about 80x. Halogen light was used, although at some pictures slight LED light was used. Whole leaves where used in this microscopy, although only portions where focused (sporangia).
