Esther Dyson Intellectual Property
4.38
Esther Dyson's views about the problems for providers of intellectual property such as control of pricing of their own products, and how they will
operate in an increasingly competitive marketplace where much of the intellectual property is distributed free and suppliers explode in number proved
to be more accurate based on the events in the years since he had written the article. The author's views about the ways to become a leading content
provider, by giving the content away, and by making it clear that this "generosity" isn't a moral decision but abusiness strategy and how controlling
copies becomes a complex challenge in a way that it can be either controlled very tightly, limiting distribution to a small, trusted group, or it can rest
assured that eventually the product will find its way to a large nonpaying audience and also how the definition of the problem, rather than its solution,
will be the scarce resource in the future were explained aptly....show more content...
Every time a pirated work is spread to the four corners of the Internet by an anonymous user, software agents will quickly sniff it out. Anonymous
infringements will arc across the Net like shooting stars, and disappear from sight just as quickly and how there is no stopping of these personal

black markets and friend–to–friend markets and how one can perform widespread copyright infringement without getting caught, if they're careful. The
author made it clear that copyright law will continue in its traditional role of promoting markets for copyrighted goods on the Net, as it does in the

Informative Speech On Sociopaths
Sociopath. It is a word which strikes fear in all us. I mean, sociopaths are those people who we hear about on TV, the ones who have gone and
committed unthinkable crimes, are they not? Yet sociopaths are more integrated amongst our society than we would like to think. Today I am going
to tell you why most of our successful leaders are sociopaths. When we think of sociopaths, we think of people who are dangerous criminals, people
who commit crimes, people who are to be avoided at all costs. Yet the Oxford Dictionary defines sociopath as "A person with a personality disorder
manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour", which really doesn't sound that bad. Even knowing this, the word sociopath still
brings to mind people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, and other similar characters. You get the picture? But it

Leadership offers them a protective shell, something which they can fall back on if things don't go to plan. It also suits their ambitious nature, they
are driven to achieve a single goal, and will stop at nothing to reach this. Ambition is an essential quality when it comes to becoming a successful
leader, as it allows the person to look for better options and ways to do something. Ambitious people are also more driven, so look for more options,
making them better known, which makes them more likely to become candidates for leadership roles. Sociopaths are successful in leadership because
they lack the trait of human compassion, instead they see others as objects which can become possessions that are discarded at will. Doesn't sound
very friendly does it? They have the ability to put others interests to the side so as to make a decision which one would normally struggle to make. I
mean could you make the tough decisions that revolve around our highest

Confessions Of A Sociopath Summary
Throughout the article Confessions of a Sociopath, the author shows what it is like for a sociopath to function in society. The author deals with anger
and human interactions much differently than normal people would. Although she has an unearthly urge to harm people who upset her, she refrains
and tends to bottle that hate and let her conscious mind realize what she is thinking is morally wrong. The author gives an example of when she was
not glad her father had hurt himself rather that he had consciously committed an action out of such passion is what she was mad at. This shows how
she wants to strip her father of even his comprehensive ability to love or make decisions based on emotions. It is an extremely evil and devious way

Media Piracy And Its Effect On Society
As media continues to evolve copyright and distribution become a major concern.
In todays digital age it had become easier to download and distribute media. Many individuals have continued to evaluate whether or not punishments
for media piracy are harsh enough. This essay will discuss the strengths and weakness of allowing the punishment to stay the same for media piracy. It
will also demonstrate why increasing the punishment will have a negative effect on society.
As music and films become more available to the public the issue of copyright becomes a concern. Many individuals have consumed these forms of
media throughout history. Over the years, media has continued to evolve and grow. However, it was the invention of the Internet that sparked
media piracy. In Canada, copyright laws are in effect in order to protect the work of media producers. This means all forms of media must be
purchased in order to view. This includes; books, movies, films, music, television programs, art and many other forms of media. With that being
said; just because an individual has purchased a form of media does not mean they are able to share it with their peers. Professors, teachers, students,
and adults are unable to make copies of media and share it with the public. (Government of Ontario) If they do, this is known as media piracy. In
Canada, the punishment for media piracy strictly consists of a fine; however, this does not affect Canadians downloading illegal music or films. If a

The Digital Age And The Digital Age
The digital age has brought change in many areas of modern society, and has forced us to discuss the way it has affected our modern laws. The digital
age has proven difficult when handling laws associated with the internet, privacy and copyright. Additionally, the entertainment industry has seen it's
own ups and downs in this ever evolving digital era. The question to focus on is whether or not the ease of digital copying and distribution online
interferes with the revenue available to record labels, productions companies, actors and artists. The focus of this paper will be if, and how, the digital
age has affected the entertainment industry. It will look at copyright laws that come into play within the music and film industries, as...show more

Social media has also affected the music industry because it has changed the way artists and songs are advertised and discovered. This has a huge
effect on traditional record labels because advertisements and promotions are two of the biggest sources of revenue for these companies (Merrill,
2013). However, online sharing has the potential to benefit the music industry – specifically those artists who aren't well known – because it allows
them to collect more revenue, and have a greater share of their creations which isn't always the case when going down the record labels path (Merrill,
2013). While there is potential for online sharing sites, the question of copyright infringement still comes into play. Although companies such as
Spotify and Pandora were created as a way to drive the music industry forward – providing a foundation for music licensing that represents a future with
technology – the carelessness and swiftness on which these companies were created pose a serious threat to large copyright infringement cases
(Levine, 2017). While these companies do have their own legal agreements and blanket licensing deals, copyright has still proven to be an issue. In
some cases, illegally uploaded material – or copyrighted material – will be taken down from the site immediately. However, in recent years, Spotify has
admitted to publishing material

Sociopath Vs Psychopath
We all have used the word psychopath or sociopath even watched movies where the words are used to describe a specific person who is crazy. But
are we really using the word that actually suit the. First let's define both words, a sociopath is a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself
in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience. And psychopath is a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with
abnormal or violent social behavior. They both are a form of mental disorder, but one is violent, while the other one is not. The 1960 movie Psycho
shows the character Norman Bates, that has the trait of a Psychopath how violent he is in the movie. A psychopath is dangerous. They're violent and
cruel, and oftentimes...show more content...
A sociopath is antisocial, manipulative, deceitful, rule–breaking, and superficially charming, so they can have their way. Sociopaths interact with their
social worlds in a meaningful way, but their moral compasses needed a massive tune–up. Meanwhile, a Psychopath is generally considered a
confluence of genetic and chemical imbalances. Psychopaths lack the proper neurological frameworks to develop a sense of ethics and morality.
Another differences between both psychopaths and sociopaths is that the cause of their disorder is either nature or nurture. A psychopath is formed
through nature while often times sociopaths are formed through nurture. How can we diagnose both of them and not confuse them with each other?
How can you tell if they are a sociopath? To define a sociopath is by looking through some of these factors that are still used today to diagnose
sociopaths/psychopaths and others with antisocial disorders. Some factor such as very intelligent, delusions or other signs of irrational thinking, overly
nervous, not reliable, liars, lacks remorse, behavior motivated antisocial, poor judgment fails to learn from experience, pathologically egocentric,
incapable of love, lack the ability to react emotionally, and aren't self–reflective or meditative. These are some factors of a

schedules could not get a degree. I am receiving my degree completely online. I choose to take online classes because I work in Cape Vincent and
Clayton and live in Adams. Living on campus would not be an option for me and commuting would be a nightmare. I do not think that students who
receive their degree online should receive a different degree than someone who receives it taking face–to–face classes. Degree programs require
students to take all of the same classes whether they are taken face–to–face or online. The learning outcome from these classes is the same. If colleges

If students get caught they should have to face the consequences whether it is in a class online or a face–to–face. Professors should take the necessary
measures to keep students from cheating. These measures should include running papers through turn it in, changing test questions each semester
and personalizing questions as much as possible so questions cannot be found online. Cheating is a serious problem, but it hurts the student in the
end. Although students know that cheating is against school policy and professors are trying their best to make it difficult to cheat, students are
still going to find ways to do it. Professors should not have to focus all of their attention on catching cheating. They need to focus most of their
time and attention on the students who want to learn and to well in their class. Students who choose to use these sites instead of doing the work
themselves are not going to do well in their future job. When entering into a job after graduating college you are expected to remember the
information you were taught in college. An employer will be able to determine quickly if you know what you are supposed to know or not. If you
are not able to remember the basic information taught in college you most likely are going to fired. Employers are not going to waste their time

The Pros And Cons Of Online Education
Many people may feel like going to school online is better than having to get up early in the morning and go to school the traditional way. The truth
is they're almost same but they still have their differences. Of course, when you go online you stay at home, don't see your teachers, and do the work
on your own time. Rather than when you go traditionally you're getting up driving to class, you have to be on time, and you physically see your
teachers. In the end if you choose either way you're still getting an education, still have teachers and more importantly you still have those deadlines.
Online education may seem more convenient for people who have a job or kids and don't really have time to physically go to class. Online
classes are to molded to your schedule. Most online classes follow a weekly format where students are to log in, read the class materials, contribute
to discussion boards and complete assignments prior to the beginning of the next week. When going online you get to stay at home or go wherever
you please to finish your assignments. Going online gives you more than enough time to do those assignments when you get ready instead of turning
it in when the class is over. Some people may not like going to class and listen to their teacher talk the whole class. When you go online you have
videos to watch and power points that your free to go to anytime to review the notes. Online classes you do not physically see your teacher. Not

Touching Spirit Bear
Touching Spirit Bear In Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen, Cole Matthews, the protagonist, is a troublemaker. He always has been. But, when
he smashes Peter Driscal's head into the concrete sidewalk, he ends up having to make a decision; prison time, or a year on a remote Alaskan island.
But, that's not the only crime he has done. This leads to me seeing him as a sociopath. Sociopaths tend to lie, break laws, act impulsively, and lack
regard to the safety of themselves and others, all of which, he does. The main reason I see him to show signs of a sociopath is because he smashed
Peter's skull into the sidewalk. Not only did he break a law, he also acted impulsively. He acted in the rage of the moment, not thinking about the

Online Vs. Traditional Learning
Online Versus Traditional Learning
Today 's generation relies so much on technology that it has now been incorporated into the schools curriculum. What we once knew and have learned
by using school books, is now being taught strictly electronic communication. Although the online environment learning can be utilized to enhance
classroom lessons, doesn 't mean it should come a main source of teaching. Schools around the nation has remove the use of textbooks and worksheet
from the classroom it is a known fact that all learners don 't comprehend through the same techniques and or methods. Some students need the
traditional method or individual attention. Issues learning through Web–based, Distance and Blended learning can be good or bad, but even worse

who are less mature, motivated and discipline, they will need face to face teaching. Teachers can explain the information in a way the learner can
related to what being taught. Teachers add experiences, personality, compassion that 's something an electronic device can 't do it doesn 't feel or
understand that the learner is not catching on it only does what is program inside its system to do. Distractions is another issue, it 's proven that
multi–tasking is regular for students and that many students are found switching between competing activities highly distracting according to,

Definition Of A Sociopath
For this assignment we were required to read four articles in which we were asked to identify if any of the four individuals fit the definition of a
sociopath. "In this paper I will discuss my reasons for determining that all four people, fit the definition of a sociopath, according to Stout's criteria."
According to Martha Stout, a sociopath is a person without a conscience. Stout explains that conscience is something we feel, it's our "seventh sense"
and is defined by a sense of obligation based in an emotional attachment to another living creature, or to a group of human beings, or even in some
cases to humanity as a whole (Stout, p.25). As noted in The Sociopath next door, Stout explains the American Psychiatric Association uses a manual to
define mental illnesses and it is as follows:
"The Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental disorders IV (DSM–IV). According to criteria in this manual for someone to be considered a person
with antisocial personality disorder (sociopath), they would need to possess at least 3 of the following 7 characteristics to be considered to have the
condition, they are as follows; (1) failure to conform to social norms; (2) deceitfulness, manipulativeness; (3) impulsivity, failure to plan ahead; (4)
irritability, aggressiveness; (5) reckless disregard for the safety of self or others; (6) consistent irresponsibility; (7) lack of remorse after having hurt,
mistreated, or stolen from another person" (p.6)
In addition to the characteristics

Sociopaths In Shakespeare
Sociopath Sociopath has been defined as "someone who is suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder. Sociopaths show a pervasive pattern of
disregard for the rights and feelings of others" (Marcia Purse, 2014). Sociopath is an unreliable person who has the ability to manipulate other
people. He lies to others for his personal benefits, and he does not have any feeling of guilt for his behavior. His antisocial behavior results from his
need for gratification, not because of objective needs. A review of the literature provides evidence that there are many sociopathic characters that exist
in the early plays of Shakespeare. Aaron in Titus Andronicus and Richard in Richard III are two examples of sociopathic characters that fall apart
because of their antisocial behavior. Despite the fact that Aaron and Richard are from different social status; both of them share the same sociopathic
traits. The sociopathic character is usually an unreliable and manipulative character....show more content...
Their antisocial behavior shows how failure they are, and how they do not learn from their experiences. Richard is a white character who is from a
royal family. His motivation for being a king makes him violent and bloody character. Richard kills anyone who runs for the throne. Richard's mind
explores his evil personality, and his deeds reflect his sophisticated and complicated behavior. He is unconscious that his antisocial behavior could
lead him to his perdition. On the other hand, Shakespeare creates Aaron as a black character whose motivation represents his evil personality. Aron's
motivation is to make Tamora's dream of revenge to a real dream. At the end of the play, Aron admits that he has a hand in all the crimes that happened
to Titus's family, and he does not feel guilty for his deeds. Aaron has been shown as "untruthfulness, insincerity and lack ofremorse or shame."(705). He

Online learning is one of the upcoming trends in the education sectors all over the world. Since online environment is changing continuously, it
represents a great opportunity for learning. Online education and traditional education have similar curriculum, but they differ in flexibility, tuition, and
being a visual learner. Online learning is a great cause but their are also different outcomes for people.
People are in search of many new ways of learning. One of the most popular methods is online learning. Although many people still consider
traditional learning as the best way to achieve knowledge and get a diploma, online learning proves to be a great source."With a proper time
management, you can easily plan your online learning sessions to fit into your busy schedule and follow your own pace of study to complete your
degree program."(Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Education 2017). This represents that it is a great way to study many fields in your own
time and to boost the level of self–motivation to fulfill your future. Online learning is so effective because students can finish their homework quickly,
and there is more time left for hobbies or for finding a job. "Others have trouble attending a traditional school schedule due to health issues"
(GetEducated). Due to other people not having enough time, or not having a ride,or having a sickness can affect your education to learn. So students
find it useful to take online courses and still learn effectively.
Another advantage is the choices that are offered to the students, each student has the freedom to study in any classes he/she wishes. "The recent study
research showed that by the year 2014, most students in the United States will be taking courses fully online rather than on campus" (Ambient Insight
Research, 2009). More and more students are taking online classes because of the flexibility and convenience it provides. Students can now attend class
sessions from the comfort of their home and complete assignments whenever it's convenient for them because of online education. "Instructors can be
more approachable in the online setting" (WorldWideLearn1999–2017). According to this article, students find it more comfortable

which leaves no true definition in a person's mind. They are very different but same in some similar aspects. Sociopaths, in fact live among society.

Classroom Vs Traditional Classroom
In life there are always positive and negative things in life, there are always two sides to look at. In this case I'm talking about whether I think that
traditional classroom setting is better for the students or if online is better. I know I'm about to contradict myself but honestly there is no right or
wrong way with going with the classroom setting. I say that because some kids learn faster or are more educated in some things which is completely
normal, no one is the same. Some kid's need that more personal or one on one learning because there are some kids that need. Sometimes it just
works out for the family best, for example my parents travel a lot and for me to go to a traditional classroom I depended on my parents to drive me to
school every day because I don't live close for the bus to pick me up and take me to school. There were many other reasons like the people I
associated myself with because they were the people I met my freshman year. I realized that the people I was hanging out with were not people
that I had things in common with. My freshman year I was as my 7th grade teacher said "I was a follower not a leader". Which is crazy to think
because if anyone personally knows me they know I do not like when people boss me around, if I were to work I would rather be the boss and not
the employee. People think a lot of bad things about me because my dad is a business owner and that is all I've ever seen him do. Which has create
this monster inside of me that

Esther Dyson Intellectual Property

  • 1. Esther Dyson Intellectual Property 4.38 Esther Dyson's views about the problems for providers of intellectual property such as control of pricing of their own products, and how they will operate in an increasingly competitive marketplace where much of the intellectual property is distributed free and suppliers explode in number proved to be more accurate based on the events in the years since he had written the article. The author's views about the ways to become a leading content provider, by giving the content away, and by making it clear that this "generosity" isn't a moral decision but abusiness strategy and how controlling copies becomes a complex challenge in a way that it can be either controlled very tightly, limiting distribution to a small, trusted group, or it can rest assured that eventually the product will find its way to a large nonpaying audience and also how the definition of the problem, rather than its solution, will be the scarce resource in the future were explained aptly....show more content... The author also provided a better way to understand the relationship between legal copyright markets and illegal markets such as black markets and friend–to–friend markets and how one can perform widespread copyright infringement without getting caught, if they're careful. • 3. Informative Speech On Sociopaths Sociopath. It is a word which strikes fear in all us. I mean, sociopaths are those people who we hear about on TV, the ones who have gone and committed unthinkable crimes, are they not? Yet sociopaths are more integrated amongst our society than we would like to think. Today I am going to tell you why most of our successful leaders are sociopaths. When we think of sociopaths, we think of people who are dangerous criminals, people who commit crimes, people who are to be avoided at all costs. Yet the Oxford Dictionary defines sociopath as "A person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behaviour", which really doesn't sound that bad. Even knowing this, the word sociopath still brings to mind people like Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, and other similar characters. You get the picture? But it ...show more content... Leadership offers them a protective shell, something which they can fall back on if things don't go to plan. It also suits their ambitious nature, they are driven to achieve a single goal, and will stop at nothing to reach this. Ambition is an essential quality when it comes to becoming a successful leader, as it allows the person to look for better options and ways to do something. Ambitious people are also more driven, so look for more options, making them better known, which makes them more likely to become candidates for leadership roles. Sociopaths are successful in leadership because they lack the trait of human compassion, instead they see others as objects which can become possessions that are discarded at will. Doesn't sound very friendly does it? They have the ability to put others interests to the side so as to make a decision which one would normally struggle to make. • 4. Confessions Of A Sociopath Summary Throughout the article Confessions of a Sociopath, the author shows what it is like for a sociopath to function in society. The author deals with anger and human interactions much differently than normal people would. Although she has an unearthly urge to harm people who upset her, she refrains and tends to bottle that hate and let her conscious mind realize what she is thinking is morally wrong. The author gives an example of when she was not glad her father had hurt himself rather that he had consciously committed an action out of such passion is what she was mad at. This shows how she wants to strip her father of even his comprehensive ability to love or make decisions based on emotions. It is an extremely evil and devious way of going about Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Media Piracy And Its Effect On Society As media continues to evolve copyright and distribution become a major concern. In todays digital age it had become easier to download and distribute media. Many individuals have continued to evaluate whether or not punishments for media piracy are harsh enough. This essay will discuss the strengths and weakness of allowing the punishment to stay the same for media piracy. It will also demonstrate why increasing the punishment will have a negative effect on society. As music and films become more available to the public the issue of copyright becomes a concern. Many individuals have consumed these forms of media throughout history. Over the years, media has continued to evolve and grow. However, it was the invention of the Internet that sparked media piracy. In Canada, copyright laws are in effect in order to protect the work of media producers. This means all forms of media must be purchased in order to view. This includes; books, movies, films, music, television programs, art and many other forms of media. With that being said; just because an individual has purchased a form of media does not mean they are able to share it with their peers. Professors, teachers, students, and adults are unable to make copies of media and share it with the public. (Government of Ontario) If they do, this is known as media piracy. In Canada, the punishment for media piracy strictly consists of a fine; however, this does not affect Canadians downloading illegal music or films. If a Canadian Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 7. The Digital Age And The Digital Age The digital age has brought change in many areas of modern society, and has forced us to discuss the way it has affected our modern laws. The digital age has proven difficult when handling laws associated with the internet, privacy and copyright. Additionally, the entertainment industry has seen it's own ups and downs in this ever evolving digital era. The question to focus on is whether or not the ease of digital copying and distribution online interferes with the revenue available to record labels, productions companies, actors and artists. The focus of this paper will be if, and how, the digital age has affected the entertainment industry. It will look at copyright laws that come into play within the music and film industries, as...show more content... Social media has also affected the music industry because it has changed the way artists and songs are advertised and discovered. This has a huge effect on traditional record labels because advertisements and promotions are two of the biggest sources of revenue for these companies (Merrill, 2013). However, online sharing has the potential to benefit the music industry – specifically those artists who aren't well known – because it allows them to collect more revenue, and have a greater share of their creations which isn't always the case when going down the record labels path (Merrill, 2013). While there is potential for online sharing sites, the question of copyright infringement still comes into play. Although companies such as Spotify and Pandora were created as a way to drive the music industry forward – providing a foundation for music licensing that represents a future with technology – the carelessness and swiftness on which these companies were created pose a serious threat to large copyright infringement cases (Levine, 2017). While these companies do have their own legal agreements and blanket licensing deals, copyright has still proven to be an issue. In some cases, illegally uploaded material – or copyrighted material – will be taken down from the site immediately. However, in recent years, Spotify has admitted to publishing material Get more content on HelpWriting.net

But are we really using the word that actually suit the. First let's define both words, a sociopath is a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience. And psychopath is a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior. They both are a form of mental disorder, but one is violent, while the other one is not. Sociopaths interact with their social worlds in a meaningful way, but their moral compasses needed a massive tune–up. Meanwhile, a Psychopath is generally considered a confluence of genetic and chemical imbalances. Psychopaths lack the proper neurological frameworks to develop a sense of ethics and morality. Another differences between both psychopaths and sociopaths is that the cause of their disorder is either nature or nurture. A psychopath is formed through nature while often times sociopaths are formed through nurture. How can we diagnose both of them and not confuse them with each other? How can you tell if they are a sociopath? To define a sociopath is by looking through some of these factors that are still used today to diagnose sociopaths/psychopaths and others with antisocial disorders. Some factor such as very intelligent, delusions or other signs of irrational thinking, overly nervous, not reliable, liars, lacks remorse, behavior motivated antisocial, poor judgment fails to learn from experience, pathologically egocentric, incapable of love, lack the ability to react emotionally, and aren't self–reflective or meditative. I choose to take online classes because I work in Cape Vincent and Clayton and live in Adams. Living on campus would not be an option for me and commuting would be a nightmare. I do not think that students who receive their degree online should receive a different degree than someone who receives it taking face–to–face classes. Cheating is a serious problem, but it hurts the student in the end. The truth is they're almost same but they still have their differences. Of course, when you go online you stay at home, don't see your teachers, and do the work on your own time. Rather than when you go traditionally you're getting up driving to class, you have to be on time, and you physically see your teachers. In the end if you choose either way you're still getting an education, still have teachers and more importantly you still have those deadlines. Online education may seem more convenient for people who have a job or kids and don't really have time to physically go to class. Online classes are to molded to your schedule. Most online classes follow a weekly format where students are to log in, read the class materials, contribute to discussion boards and complete assignments prior to the beginning of the next week. When going online you get to stay at home or go wherever you please to finish your assignments. Going online gives you more than enough time to do those assignments when you get ready instead of turning it in when the class is over. But, when he smashes Peter Driscal's head into the concrete sidewalk, he ends up having to make a decision; prison time, or a year on a remote Alaskan island. But, that's not the only crime he has done. This leads to me seeing him as a sociopath. Sociopaths tend to lie, break laws, act impulsively, and lack regard to the safety of themselves and others, all of which, he does. The main reason I see him to show signs of a sociopath is because he smashed Peter's skull into the sidewalk. Not only did he break a law, he also acted impulsively. • 13. Definition Of A Sociopath For this assignment we were required to read four articles in which we were asked to identify if any of the four individuals fit the definition of a sociopath. "In this paper I will discuss my reasons for determining that all four people, fit the definition of a sociopath, according to Stout's criteria." According to Martha Stout, a sociopath is a person without a conscience. Stout explains that conscience is something we feel, it's our "seventh sense" and is defined by a sense of obligation based in an emotional attachment to another living creature, or to a group of human beings, or even in some cases to humanity as a whole (Stout, p.25). As noted in The Sociopath next door, Stout explains the American Psychiatric Association uses a manual to define mental illnesses and it is as follows: "The Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental disorders IV (DSM–IV). According to criteria in this manual for someone to be considered a person with antisocial personality disorder (sociopath), they would need to possess at least 3 of the following 7 characteristics to be considered to have the condition, they are as follows; (1) failure to conform to social norms; (2) deceitfulness, manipulativeness; (3) impulsivity, failure to plan ahead; (4) irritability, aggressiveness; (5) reckless disregard for the safety of self or others; (6) consistent irresponsibility; (7) lack of remorse after having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another person" (p.6) In addition to the characteristics Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Sociopaths In Shakespeare Sociopath Sociopath has been defined as "someone who is suffering from Antisocial Personality Disorder. Sociopaths show a pervasive pattern of disregard for the rights and feelings of others" (Marcia Purse, 2014). Sociopath is an unreliable person who has the ability to manipulate other people. He lies to others for his personal benefits, and he does not have any feeling of guilt for his behavior. His antisocial behavior results from his need for gratification, not because of objective needs. A review of the literature provides evidence that there are many sociopathic characters that exist in the early plays of Shakespeare. Aaron in Titus Andronicus and Richard in Richard III are two examples of sociopathic characters that fall apart because of their antisocial behavior. Despite the fact that Aaron and Richard are from different social status; both of them share the same sociopathic traits. On the other hand, Shakespeare creates Aaron as a black character whose motivation represents his evil personality. Aron's motivation is to make Tamora's dream of revenge to a real dream. At the end of the play, Aron admits that he has a hand in all the crimes that happened to Titus's family, and he does not feel guilty for his deeds. Aaron has been shown as "untruthfulness, insincerity and lack ofremorse or shame."(705). He Get more content on HelpWriting.net
