  1. 1. <ul><li>Welcome to our course! </li></ul>
  2. 2. <ul><li>I'm Ana Albi and I hope you will find the course as profitable as you anticipate it to be.  Before you begin, some instructions on what to do each week.  </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><ul><li>On Monday of each week, </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>at 8:00 am Brasilia time, </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>we will make the week's work available to you.  </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Every week, you will have the week's goal set out for you. You can click on the title and see what is in store for you that week.  </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>As well as the goals, each week brings lessons covering the material of the week. You should check every activity proposed for the week. </li></ul><ul><li>You can go back and view anything as often as you wish, and at any point, if you feel ready, you may go to something else.  </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>You can go through and try each exercise from start to finish, or try only the ones you want to reinforce.  </li></ul><ul><li>You may re-do the exercises as often as you like or skip the ones you are sure about. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li> At any point, if you have any doubts, you may send me an e-mail at the address you will find on our database, or post it to our class help desk forum and let me and your colleagues help. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>You will be presented with a number of tasks which include reading and writing activities, discussions and exercises. </li></ul><ul><li>You will not be graded in these activities, and you may re-do or edit them as often as you wish.  It is your participation and improvement that we are interested in.  </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>There are four mandatory writing assignments which will help me assess your progress. They will be available at the end of every two weeks. </li></ul><ul><li>These assignments will be highlighted with an asterisk to call your attention. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>We expect you to present the mandatory writing assignments within a week of its posting. </li></ul><ul><li>They should be turned in a timely fashion, so your instructor can have enough time to provide comments and feedback. </li></ul>
  11. 11. <ul><li>Besides the course platform, we will use other internet tools. You will receive information on how to use them as necessary. </li></ul><ul><li>We will also have a wiki space for our discussions, and to share your texts. You will receive an invitation to join the workspace via email, with the necessary explanations. </li></ul><ul><li>We will often refer to material in your textbook, Inside Academic Writing . </li></ul>
  12. 12. <ul><li>If you weren't able to complete all the mandatory tasks by the end of week 8, you can still do them during the two weeks that follow.  </li></ul><ul><li>The deadline for completion of the course is December 11th.   This means that you must submit or post all mandatory work by that day. </li></ul><ul><li>If you have any problems with this deadline, please send me an e-mail explaining the problem and we will try to find a solution, if at all possible. </li></ul>
