Welcome to Experience Web
2.0 online course
Russell Kenny
The course consists of:
Eight, one week e-tivities, each one consisting of some research and hands on
experimentation with an aspect of Web 2.0 technology and a short "blogged"
reflection on the experience and it's application in HE.
Reading other peoples blogs and sharing ideas will be central to the experience.
The e-tivites will become available in Blackboard the Friday morning before the
week of the activity if you want to get started early!
Some weeks there is a choice of e-tivity. You can do either or both, depending on
your available time.
At the end of each week, Russell will read your Blogs and write a Blog Summary.
Blog supporters (mostly people who have done the course before) will be reading
and commenting on your blog postings. We will be sending out Email reminders
each week, but you should also put entries in your own diaries to reserve time
each week to do the exercises. Online learning can be done in a flexible way, but
don't let that flexibility push the exercises down your priority list! Treat the time
reserved for these exercises in the same way as you would if it was a face to
face course.
The final e-tivity will allow two weeks to complete it.
There will also be a course project, that can be as simple or as in depth as you
want (and have time for). Over the eight weeks of the course, you should
generally explore Web 2.0 tools other than the ones covered in in the
course. You should try to find something that you might find useful in your area
of work, and you should experiment with it.
As part of the last e-tivity of the course there will be an opportunity to share your
finds with other course participants and to reflect on how they might be applied in
your work, and in HE in general.
The timetable for each week will be like this:
On the Wednesday of the week before, the e-tivity for the next week will
become visible so that you can preview it, and start early if you wish
On the Monday of each week, the e-tivity officially starts
Each e-tivity involves posting an entry into a blog. This should be done by
Midday on the Thursday of the week. This is to allow others to see and
comment on your posting, which is part of each week's e-tivity..
Comments for that week should be posted before the next week's e-tivity
becomes available on the next Monday.
Each e-tivity consists of:
• Some reading
• An activity (typically experiencing using an
online resource/tool)]
• A sharing (posting to a blog, then reading and
commenting on others postings)
• A summary (reading a summary blog posting)
The e-tivities each week are the
minimum that should be done. If you
have time, there are also lots of
resources in the Resources section that
you can explore on your own. This BB
site will be available to you after the
course, so that you can explore this
section of the site later, if you don't have
time during the course.
In order to pass the course, and get the
LSBU Web 2.0 Experience Certificate,
you need to have blogged at least 8
times (one per week) each blog at least
100 words.
More if you want it!
