2. Portfolio Competency 2
Through the intense month of June, I have endured through and learned many new
things. I started with many expectations of the month, including some expectations on my
English class. Some of the expectations were: a normal English class, multiple essays,
learning something new, and expanding my knowledge. The course did meet most of my
expectations, though the normal English class and multiple essays were not met. Through
this month, I used a new citing format, professionalism, and many hours of studying to push
through and pass my course.
I entered into the first week of English with a huge lack of confidence since I had not had
an English class for over 6 years. Needless of an explanation, it is easy to say I felt a bit rusty
in my skills. Now here at the end of the month with all of the new knowledge I have
acquired, including a new citing format, I can say my confidence has risen greatly. Though I
felt distressed constantly with how this month went, I feel as though I have learned a lot
and will continue into excellence from these teachings. My confidence grew for the sole
reason of the fact that I was continually learning something new and putting it into practice
every single week.
Needless to say, from start to finish my essay looks like a caterpillar going through
metamorphosis into a butterfly. The very beginning of my essay was rough to say the least
with myself still trying to grasp the knowledge. Throughout the month, as my knowledge
increased, my essay began to take new form and look better. Leading into the final revision I
still had some things I needed to adjust. I took it one step at a time and was very
professional about it. Eventually, upon completion of my final revision, I had taken all of the
knowledge and feedback I had acquired and put my best foot forward to put the best work I
could out.
I feel I have met the expectations of this class quite well, though not perfectly. I have
been able to keep an A grade within the class for the whole month, but I feel I still need
work. I am especially proud of the fact that even though the start of the month was
extremely rough, I managed to keep a level head and continue to pass my class. If I were
able to do it all again differently, I would always be checking the FSO and Turnitin.com sites
to ensure that what I need is there rather than waiting on a notification for it, I would also
spend more time studying. Perhaps I would even attempt to go into the writing center more
and also, though I had already spent many hours studying, spend even more time studying
other sources to improve my own essay writing abilities.
Through the use of a new citing format, professionalism, and many hours of studying I
was able to not only pass my English class, but also expand my knowledge to help in further
courses. Though it was no much, I did apply some of the lessons I had learned in previous
classes to this one. For instance, I used Gamification to study in a more entertaining way
and learn more easily for example. The skills I learned have helped me tremendously to
improve upon myself through the courses of this school. The lessons I have learned in this

class will tremendously help me not only in my future classes, but also in my future careers.
The lessons from this course will help me create better essays for my portfolio classes and
will also help me to have a good beginning skeleton to contracts I will be writing in my
career.
