Perform specimen receiving tasks: receiving specimens, assessing priority, assuring appropriateidentification and type.

label specimens and processes according to priority status. Process orders change/identifies misidentified lab samples
and problem samples for shift supervisor. Handle inadequate lab samples and problem samples. Perform specimen
processing and preparation:reviews test requests;centrifuges specimens according to the requirements of tests for time,
temperature and centrifugal force; aliquots specimens for each testing site; delivers specimens to appropriate technical
testing sties; loads specimens to laboratory automation line. Respond to user inquires over the phoneand face to face.
Use thelaboratory computer to access patient test results as requested. Determine the status of patient testing; reacts
appropriately to user requests and solves problems related to theserequests. Follow quality control/quality assurance
practices and procedures according to lab and accreditation guidelines. Documents all procedures performed including
QC, calibration, maintenance and function checks. Responsible for knowing and demonstrating National Patient Safety
standards. Participates in theperformance improvement activities; quality improvement and patient safety;assists in
maintaining compliance with Joint Commission accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards
including code of conduct.

Performing thetask as a medical laboratory assistant consists of set-up of specimens for gross dictation and dissection.
Includes data entering of specimens and minor troubleshooting, conferring with pathologists with regard to problem
specimens and hematopathology specimen triage. Medical laboratory assistants assign case numbers to specimens by
entering patient demographics, blocks, slides and special stains. Verifying accuracy of specimen between patient
requisitions to sample received. Labels requisitions and containers with appropriatespecimen barcodes, and prints
appropriate number of cassettes with appropriate casenumbers based on established protocols. Sorts and separates
specimens between cytology, histology and flow cytometry. Medicallab assistants are also responsible for accessioning
bone marrow cases along with triaging bone marrows. Also responsible for labeling all pap specimens, aliquoting and
scanning patient requisitions into computer data base.

Task as an automotive service writer includes getting work distributed to the technicians and completing the necessary
