Personal Statement
I am currently a final year Biochemistry student in NUI Galway. Having worked on a part-
time basis throughout school and college it is evident that I am a hard-working, ambitious
person with drive and determination. With five years of employment experience in
varying areas, I am a very outgoing and confident person with proficiency in customer
service, time management, teamwork and multi-tasking toname just a few. I have also
shown my capability to excel in a busy, pressured environment. I am very passionate
about science in general and my particular field of interest, biochemistry.
Education
National University of Ireland, Galway. (September 2012 – June 2016)
• Expected Results: 1:1 Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry
• Final Year Research Project:
During my final year of my degree, I had to complete 8 weeks of laboratory work in a
research laboratory in the university. I took part in a project in relation to breast
cancer in the Apoptosis Research Centre in NUI Galway. During this period I gained
invaluable experience in important laboratory techniques and general laboratory
procedures.

• Worked as part of a team in a pressurized and intense environment on a daily basis
• Ensured a high quality of produce was served on time by working diligently in
preparation and cooking of food
• Communicated professionally as a part of a team of people from a wide variety of
nationalities, to ensure smooth day to day operations of the kitchen.

Distribution Hub Staff Member – (May 2014 – May 2015)

• Ensured parcels were carefully managed from the unloading procedure of parcels
coming into the distribution hub to the loading procedure of parcels being delivered
from the distribution hub.
• Working here required me to be extremely dependable and trustworthy in order to
handle highly valuable goods and ensure that these goods were delivered to
customers on time.
• Maintained the hubs general cleanliness and tidied up after each shift.
• Displayed my willingness to work and my high work rate by working night shifts in a
pressured environment.
Shop Assistant and Warehouse Staff Member – (June 2010 – May 2014)
Central Bearing Supplies Ltd., Blyry Industrial Estate, Athlone, Co. Westmeath
• Demonstrated my hunger for work at a young age by obtaining a job at 16.
• Adapted to a specialized product market at a young age and picked up product
knowledge quickly and easily.
• Duties during my time working here included using tills, dealing with customer
queries and complaints, (via face to face conversations, phone calls and emails),
managed the shop floor in absence of the manager, stock control such as
replenishments and deliveries, assisted customers with product selection and
offered advice with which I used my specialist product knowledge.

• Obtained my full Irish Driver's license
• Voted class representative and exhibited resilience and strong motivational and
persuasive skills throughout this process
• Part of local Shannonbridge GAA team and my local soccer team and show my
ability to co-operate as part of a team and also my ability to take on personal
responsibility as part of a team
• Computer literate and confident in using all aspects of Microsoft Office
Selective Interests
• I have a strong interest in reading a wide variety of literature especially
scientific literature
• I took part in a mental health focus group to help people doing research in
mental research
• I have a keen interest in the Irish language and have excellent knowledge of
the language
